I think the key is that Art the Clown is pretty much a horror icon now, with a very distinctive look that is quite marketable. I agree the violence is more on the sadistic side than some of the other slashers, there's genuine expressed relish in the commission of violent acts - which is effective - and makes it more disturbing. I think HHN will pull it off, it will be really violent like TCM, but maybe they won't split someone in two from an upside-down position, or maybe they will...

He absolutely isn’t and to think Terrifer is anything outside of niche still is fooling yourself. All three films were never released nationally at a wide scale, and by some loose definition, could still be considered indie.

I’d argue in the terms of a modern slasher that has a larger audience gauge is M3GAN, and she has more of a right to show up next year because of 2.0 than Art does.

It’s July 2025. The full HHN lineup has yet to be revealed. Speculation continues to run rampant. This thread has hit page 137…

That's the crazy thing. I never even said I was against M3GAN coming next year (in fact I said I do want it for HHN 34) and for some reason it was brought up in a completely unrelated discussion lol.

Terrifier 3 made more money than House of a thousand corpses and it’s still considered an iconic horror movie. I consider both movies to be niche but there’s no argument to how popular Terrifier has become this year. It completely makes sense for it to come this year. But for those unexcited, at least you’ll never have to hear “bring Terrifier to HHN” again.

I think two things can be true at once: terrifier is clearly more popular than it has ever been and it has a long way to go before art the clown is near as popular or recognizable as Freddy, Jason, leather face or Chucky. that's no insult (and frankly, who cares unless you're getting residuals).

Not to mention, I’d argue that if Art were to come to HHN, whether it be in 2025 or 2035 or 2045, the fact that Universal would see value in bringing him/the IP to the event would mean that they believe he’s broken through enough to be an icon. Whether he’s there yet or not is obviously (and rightfully) up for debate from person to person, but the moment Universal ever decides to bring him should theoretically be when the debate on if he’s “made it” can be settled.

It's less that the psychotic murderer in the movie behaves like a psychotic murderer and more that the people making the movie are themselves kinda behaving like psychotic murderers in the way they draw out, aestheticize, and hyperfocus on all the psychotic murder happening on screen.

Seriously, you can't watch the Terrifier movies (especially 2 and 3) and in good faith act like the director isn't taking pleasure in what he's depicting. And for the record, that is in absolutely no way a judgement against him, the movie, or anyone who likes him/the movie. Enjoying Terrifier is not an endorsement of extreme violence or psychotic murderers; neither is making a Terrifier movie. But also, let's not be obtuse here.

FWIW, I think the Terrifier movies are extremely stupid and shallow, but I think it would be a fun fit for the event. It has the right kind of grand guignol spirit.

in the first movie didn't he carve - write some obscenities and curse words against women into their skins? would universal copy that ? ( I remember some pretty intense stuff) it was a while ago I saw

doesn't he torture women to the extreme? even their private parts, some of the torture is pretty x rated. would universal copy those scenes?
universal didn't even let Chucky say curse words in Orlando last year, universal bleeps Chucky....
but terrifier is ok? lol.

like seriously, how does universal even copy the scenes where he tortures the women victims?
that's my question, how to even properly adapt the movie unless the house is an original idea with the character.

it would have to be an original house with the character. or a "what if"
terrifier is pretty sadistic and offensive towards women specifically. I don't see how they translate that. would the house just allow nudity and torture?

he is a modern icon in that current horror is pretty bare bones when it comes to current icons. specially slashers. there aren't many to pick from. he's an icon by default. just by existing lol

he's a modern icon now in that he's very recognizable and unique looking, all Halloween and alternative stores have merchandise of him.

he might not be known by everyone yet. but for the horror community he's definitely a horror icon now.

I think there are a lot of examples of Horror Nights adapting properties without bringing over their most, ah, graphic bits and pieces. For better and for worse.

Some have pointed out that the most brutal kills, particularly in the first two films, tend to involve female characters. However, Art the Clown kills everyone in a graphic manner - but Allie and Dawn stand out due to the excessive nature of their killings.

Either way - this isn't the first time a property has had some questionable content (House of 1000 Corpses, TCM, their own originals), but they've managed to pull it off. I mean, just last year, a body prop was featured that was sawed in half in SS 2.

And lest we forget.... once upon a time, Saw was that property.

Just to add to this- I understand that argument for the first two movies. Especially the first. But the third one? All the victims were mostly males. Only 2-3 female characters were killed I believe and the most excessive deaths were saved for the male characters lol

Definitely niche after the first two, but 3 made a lot more money. An icon, subjective of course (& I'm not a fan), but Art has a distinctive, malevolent look. In any case, we'll see what happens.
