BTW, this had been tossed around before, but got solid confirmation re: this year's SZs--no chainsaws, no stilts, no rodents.

What is the reason for this? I can try to find the positive side of all Walking Dead scarezones and heavy IP inspiration for the houses...but this is just kind of turning into a joke. Like what exactly are they trying to accomplish by getting rid of these things, especially chainsaws which have become not only a staple for the event, but for all Halloween events in general?

Chainsaws would be too noisy and would attract the walkers... Walkers are normal people height... And the walkers would eat the rat lady and her pets...

No one's saying the event will be complete crap. We're expressing our disappointment that Universal is slowly cutting away little things that made it special.

Going back to the "Reveal Week" announcement:

Obviously there are 5 houses left to be announced and 5 days in which an announcement will be made. Are we thinking that it will be a straight up house reveal week? If so, it's a few weeks earlier than usual. Will we be seeing games/LT pick up sooner than usual as well?

Also, a new Evil Takes Root entry and video:

Accidents Happen

The items “speak” for themselves…

This year has had alot of complaining or the past 2 years for that matter. We all love HHN and will love the event no matter what houses there is. Yes we all miss the years when it all came from Universal Creatives mind. With a new owner comes changes. Let's enjoy the event.

I definitely stand by my doubt in the no chainsaws thing now. Though, to be fair, he never said they'd be in the scarezones. Aiello just said that they'd be at the event.

True. But it means there WILL be chainsaws. Which was one thing that people were up in arms about.

Likewise, Rat Lady has appeared in mazes in the past ....

Exactly, I would parse that statement closely. My source on the SZs is kind of a big cheese.

Off topic, but am I the only guy who enjoyed the hell out of 2011? Sure Lady Luck's SZ was a let-down, but really enjoyed Seven and Grown Evil, strong overall house lineup--even the B&T show grew on me once the actors found their rhythm. I can't imagine comparing it to the debacle that was 2012.

There were a lot of aspects of 2011 I enjoyed, aside from the weak icon. There were some pretty good houses, and most of the scarezones were decent.

It was 2012 that was really a mess.

New Evil Takes Root entry:

Realization

At first I thought it was my responsibility to put meaning to each of these things. And now I realize that I am not supposed to connect the dots. I’m only supposed to show you the dots. That’s why there were rules…PS

because Cabin in the Woods is way better

Maybe theres no room to do a CitW house justice in Hollywood, but why would you prefer Insidious? Just curious, because I personally thought it was pretty overratted and not very haunt-material.

It's just a movie that is so famous and I personally loved it and I would at least think they would have shared it but watever my main question is that it was just said by orlando that if you think you know the houses then you are wrong. So has it come across to anyone that we may get a mama house which perfectly fits with the woods theme

I feel ya, I just feel like Insidious wasnt an aggressive-enough horror movie to turn into a good house...not really jealous of Hollywood at all on that one.

As to your other point, I bet theres a good possibility the predictions were off, but also a good possibility they say stuff like that just to keep people on their toes, even if the guesses are 100% correct. They want people to have less time to think about the exact house lineup and more time to buy tickets in the spirit of hype.

I'd expect a chainsaw or two in HAVOC 2 and maybe Afterlife, depending on the full context of that house. They'll likely be "prerecorded" and not actual gasoline chainsaws, sadly.

I really liked 2011 after I got over Lady Luck being lackluster. Most of the zones were decent to great - 7 in particular has become my favorite of all time, in terms of overall scares, energy and spectacle. 2011 also had the strongest house lineup of any year I've gone - the only one that disappointed was The Thing, and even that wasn't bad... it was just okay. A disappointment compared to its predecessor.

Insidious is great for Hollywood - consider me jealous. One of the few horror movies I wouldn't be opposed seeing a house devoted to. Luckily, Cabin in the Woods is also one of those properties.
