Things were different in 2006, in a multitude of ways. They didn't really have the streets we do now and it was the first year the event was held in Studios in 4 years. Those 4 years were vital to HHN evolution and things changed fast and drastically in that time frame.

We're also just now starting to see the event have similar crowd levels to what it had in 2006 and 2007. The recession did hit this event, and since 2006 we have not had to open up part of IOA for overflow. Taking all that into consideration, it made sense at the time for almost all of Studios attractions to be open. We've now honed it down to E-Tickets, considering they can disburse wait times the best. Shrek being open is almost an anomaly, however it is extremely cheap to run, a people eater, and has a relative pull.

Remember that Earthquake, ET, Shrek, Jaws and Jimmy Neutron were all open every HHN night at one point. In a cost cutting procedure they realized that ridership is low and started cutting the rides one at a time. The first year they made Shrek peak nights only, then the next year cut Shrek and made Neutron peak only, then cut neutron and made Earthquake peak only, ect, ect (I don't remember the actual order of the attractions being taken out of HHN)

E.T., Shrek, and Nicktoon Blast were all open until 2008 (the latter two were open on peak nights during 2005). Earthquake/Disaster was open until 2009.

Um, I don't know what event you guys were attending last year, but the ET queue was used as overflow for House of Horrors on the Saturday of the third weekend. That was for House of Horrors, probably the least hyped house of the entire event... if you really think Walking Dead isn't gonna need it (even with the insane walk from hell), you're nuts. (That is, unless they've devised a new switchback queue solution backstage closer to the Parade Building, but to my knowledge using ET is the plan.)

After seeing all the official images I'm highly curious as to why Universal didn't give us some of those space out. I'm sure that most of those were shot withing the past two weeks but that would have effectively hyped me up so much more than what we ended up getting this year.

The updates and info management is lacking this year.

If Earthquake could run during HHN in the past with its exterior queue being used, why not the same for ET? On regular days it usually doesnt use all the switchbacks it has available, so why would them being used for The Walking Dead be an issue? People who want to ride ET can just go straight into the pre-show room. As long as its properly marked I dont see how this could be a problem...not saying they necessarily should open ET for the event, just that the queue line excuse seems illegitimate.

The queue line situation is one of several headaches I suspect they'd run into, some of which have already been mentioned. For one, in order to access those switchbacks for Walking Dead overflow, you need to use at least half of ET's main entrance - so already we have a bottleneck. Two, the entrance to ET is already in the middle of a popular HHN hub, one that's used for entry into two houses and often as a scare zone (or "horde") location. I know for a fact Operations pretty much refuses to allow scare actors/zones to be directly in front of ride/attraction entrances... it's why there hasn't been a New York scare zone that spills into the Mummy plaza in years. So should we open ET, we can't have scare actors go very far into KidZone, which likely interferes with A&D's plans for the area (there were set pieces there last year). Three, drunk guests + high-in-the-air dark ride = potential safety hazards. I know it's silly, I agree it's silly, but Rockit and Mummy's restraints are far more restrictive/protective than ET's. Given the slow moving nature of the ride I suspect vandalism could be a problem. Four, and perhaps most importantly, the ride costs a lot more to operate than Shrek. You've gotta pay for the ride system to keep running along with all the show effects and robotics, all of the greeters, preshow attendants, passport distributors, load, and unload... then you gotta open ET's Toy Closet, too, unless you let guests spill back out into the pathway (which would require upheaving quite a bit of planted foliage). Comparably, Shrek is very cheap to run, it's at the front of the park where there likely won't be much scare zone activity (there hasn't been since 2010, anyway), and frankly while we scoff at it Shrek is a more likable property to HHN's demographic than ET is.

All of the pics were pulled from the site... so I suspect they're going to pretend we didn't see them and slowly release them to get the average joe excited. Yet another big "whoops" in a year of huge hype mismanagement.

Well, it looks like we've settled E.T.

Though what I'm also curious of is what's holding Universal back from opening Twister and ride-only Disaster again?

Disaster is a show quality issue. It last ran peak nights only as Earthquake. But with the screens and the show portion having a place in the ride portion they feel it's bad show.

Twister they use their entire queue for the houses (The queue walks by the pre-show doors)

I realize, but they were able to have it open until 2008. Though I suppose there's a reason why the house queue route was changed to go through Twister's queue.

I remember that they did have Disaster open during 2008, so I don't think the "bad show" thing is a reason.

The reason they need twisters queue stems from the addition of Rockit. That side of the music plaza (formerly boneyard) was an entrance, it no longer can be.

As far as Disaster they did it the first HHN after it opened (peak nights only) and didn't like the show quality of using the canned footage every time. Doesn't hurt that it had low ridership when it was open. But the big issue is quality.

So would the capacity for Horror & Make-Up be too small to make a difference? Because it seems a far better choice than either ET or Shrek, and while it requires two actors, it still can't be that much to run.

It wouldn't take enough people off the streets. It would be at best one show an hour and it's a small theater

While it wouldn't make a huge difference crowd wise, I think it's crazy that there's not a special HHN version of Horror Make Up. I think it would be great.
