Why would they retrofit the from dusk til dawn house to this if there is still a from dusk til dawn house? Did they decide to increase the scope and move it to a sound stage and left the parade building to be re-themed?

It's not really clear... but the parade building was earmarked for FDTD, they thought they lost the property (and probably did briefly), threw together another theme in the same layout (at this time permits & layouts were already submitted and cannot be easily/cheaply changed), then learned they got the property again... and thus put it somewhere else, where construction had yet to start (i.e. the disposable Legendary Truth/Bogeyman soundstage location).

Convoluted, yes. But the whole "shoehorning something else into a layout intended for a property" isn't new since we've gone IP heavy... see Silent Hill using AWIL's intended layout in 2012.

Has the parade building ever housed the best house of the year? I have never attended HHN so I wouldn't have a clue.

It has the size to have a big house but they only ever use half since I would assume they need the space for other crap. But over the years the locations don't really seem to affect the quality of the house. My only gripes about the tents is that they are small and before sundown light comes in. Disaster queue also has a huge light bleeding problem before dark.

There have been a bunch of arguable HOTY contenders, definitely - it has many advantages of a soundstage house. Scary Tales III, Silver Screams, Hallow'd Past, Forsaken... hell, that's two thirds of the location's history as a house location right there!

Aaah... thanks very much! I have wondered about light in the tents for early opening. That is disappointing. The crews must hate designing and working on the tent projects knowing that their pants would be pulled down for 1/5 of every night.

And what sucks is that the tent houses are what's open for the pass holder early entry. It's not terrible but noticeable. Honestly it probably canceled out since your eyes won't be adjusted for dark unlike going into a sounds take from the light and not being able to see **** for the first minute or two.

it depends on the house, in some houses the light is not as noticeable but in others it really is.

Disaster is the worst one, that house is pretty much a day house when the sun is up, you can see everything and everyone

You've mentioned that you've never attended a few times, Teebs. Can I ask why?

Because I hate being jumped and frightened. I am more the type that would create a house than go through one.

Oh, and regarding the scare zones everyone...

Funny you say that Teebin. I'm the type of person who likes watching the scares & drinking in the atmosphere myself so I get where you're coming from. But I still went in 2012 with no idea what I was getting into & aside from a major reason I left early, the 2 mazes I did see I did enjoy. Last year I went 7 nights & had an absolute blast.

Oh yeah if anyone is bored, watch this. It's from my YouTube channel & I had a fun time making it.

I'm the exact same way, in fact I actually did build one and still work on it a little each year. You should definitely give it a try though. After a while you get used to the people jumping out and it just becomes a minor annoyance. I view them more as thematic walkthrough attractions and really enjoy just looking at the sets and effects.

If need be you can squint your way through, that can work sometimes. That & it's good to surround yourself in line with easier targets than yourself like teenage/college girls. It doesn't always work but usually scareactors target them & they'd leave you alone to just sit back, watch & enjoy everything without much worry of being targeted for scares yourself.

They frighten me too, but but after a whole evening of scares and a few drinks you ease up really. I'm almost annoyed with myself that I get as scared as I do given that they're actually my favourite type of attraction in terms of theming and design. HHN is pretty classy and not particularly intense compared to some of the more specialist, regional haunts in the UK and the US, which even at the more mainstream end, are generally too much for me.

I squint and put my fingers in my ears like a little b*tch every year and that helps. Almost like I'm watching a walkthrough but not. I'm very curious how the budget cuts might effect face off

If you were watching my walkthrough from last year that is actually pretty accurate given the fact it was dark & I filmed with a tablet. I just hope for a few of the Season 7 contestants to be there on opening night. That would be pretty cool.

I know everyone hated the hordes but I wonder if having more actors instead of sets was better... (Unless the budget cuts this year means barely any sets and less zones)

HHN fans are getting brutal. We used to wait until preview night before declaring that year's event a failure.
