So maybe I'm off here - but was there actually spec that the Icons will be kinda.. done after this year? I'll be really heartbroken if I never get to experience an HHN with a classic icon.

Don't remember if it was in this thread, but in the description someone posted for the icons house they made it seem the finally of the house kinda put an end point on the icons.

I was trying to see if maybe this was the big change that many people in the know were alluding to since it wasn’t mentioned by name.

Rumor was it was pulling from TCM 3D and going for a different aesthetic?

Is it a 3D TCM house or a TCM 3D house? I enjoyed the continuity of having Halloween and Halloween II at the event. Felt odd that they skipped Halloween III for IV in 2018 and are doing it again with this (if it’s TCM 3D) and possibly Season of the Witch.

Andu while they might say Icons are going away, they said that with HHNXX/20 about how they were all trapped in the Lantern and yet here we are 10 years later. If they go away, it won't be for too long.

I mean, Jack is legally old enough to drink, two were inspired by the "Ride the Movies" tagline Universal has all but abandoned, and one was derided from her first appearance. Shame old Albert never got his proper due, but at a certain point, we need new stuff that Centennial (just heard it today, not sure I like it) fans can be nostalgic for at HHN 35 or 40.

Storyteller, generally included in the HHN "Fab 5." At the time she was seen as stealing the Terra Queen's rightful position, as the event basically revolved around the Queen and her show.

It would be great to see

We've seen big IPs still able to be marketed (HHN 17, 19, 26, etc) alongside an original character and icon so it can work

Although it seems like that proverbial ship has sailed

I think we’ve discussed this but I could see there being a point once “newer and/or popular” IPs run out, they may got to get a bit more creative in advertising again, hence bringing back “Iconic” characters.

The icons are always "retired" until they aren't. One of the media talking points for HHNXX was how they were *really* going to give them a break and try to introduce new icons, characters, and franchises. That worked for all of 1 year before Walking Dead wrecked those plans.

Sadly, the two attempts since HHNXX to launch new icons mostly failed. Lady Luck had a very solid marketing push but did not land at the event proper (in part due to no maze and those truly awful masks in the afterthought of a zone). Chance seemed to fare better, but I'm not sure we can fairly label her as a "new" icon, and her maze was a bust. It sounds like this year will present an opportunity to rehabilitate Lady Luck and Fear, at least.

This problem always seems to go back to marketing and A&D teams never managing to agree on how to approach any given year. Didn't they want to do The Caretaker and we ended up with Bone?

Yeah, I do recall discussions mentioning that A&D wanted the Caretaker as the icon for 27, but Marketing shot that down. Later, Marketing was all for Bone being the icon instead, so oh to be a fly on the wall for moments like that since it felt like there was a rift between departments that year.

I would be surprised to ever see a new Icon like Jack or the Director ever again. There’s just too much of an opportunity cost promoting something that, based on the last decade or so, people evidently don’t care about. Those design teams can spend their time doing things that are so much more productive, and icons take up precious ad space that can go to recognizable IP instead.

If the designs are already in the reserves, they’re a great bone to throw to fans, but I don’t see modern day HHN dedicating the resources to building new ones from scratch.

I disagree I think if seaworld uses a icon each year like they are using the Siren this year for Marketing they may wanna combat with another type of icon
