That was always my thought. It’s multi-generational, can be very meta, and hits on current pop culture in a way that wouldn’t necessarily feel pandering and immediately outdated. Shoot, you could mine a gauntlet of SNL pairs (Wayne and Garth, Wild and Crazy Guys, Body builders, Tina and Amy, Spartan Cheerleaders) that just consistently get knocked out of the competition. Eventually, after Rick asks, “Where the hell all of these outdated, SNL rejects coming from,” it’s revealed that the show’s villain is the pair of Synergy and Legal who are actively trying to replace Bill and Ted because “They’re too damn expensive.”
