I’m not counting on it , won’t be the first time I was sure of something and have been wrong. Has anyone seen them hint towards an IP to troll before? I’m genuinely curious.

Not really "trolling", but we've absolutely seen them reference other IPs that had nothing to do with the parks or HHN before. One that I can remember was something along the lines of "In space, no one can hear you scream" when there were either Blue Origin or Space Force memes going around. Obviously, Aliens didn't end up coming to HHN.

That being said, I still think this ST situation is a bit odd; and I'm not fully convinced that it is 100% not coming. That spec map placement came from somewhere. I'll be curious to see what end up in that spot if it's not ST.

Agree, it’s just odd. My conspiracy theory is that Speculation map got executives extremely upset. You can understand why Netflix doesn’t want Comcast stealing their juice before the show is even streaming. In response, Universal employees in the know were told to say Netflix is not coming or they haven’t heard anything about Netflix.
We haven’t had a “Big IP “ announcement , The most recent spec. map has Stranger Things as a go , and the official Universal Studios Twitter page is tweeting about the series.
Sounds crazy but it’s fun to speculate.

I have been fully in the camp of "Insiders say it isn't coming". However, the little whispers of "Universal has been cracking down on leaks.." and HHN Nightmares holding back the spec map AS WELL AS their statement "not much has changed" - it's wearing on me, and a little sliver believes this was the red herring.

I really hope so - the cracking down on leaks could definitely be factoring in as well. Netflix may have even had the caveat of "this CANNOT be leaked before the announcement." Crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised.

And hey, maybe they'll scramble to bring it to the event Us-style after seeing how much S4 has blown up.

Us was a Universal release, so there was no need to negotiate acquiring the rights and there was a mutually beneficial cross marketing value for Universal.

Getting the rights for Stranger Things, especially when they seemily decided to have their own pop up experiences, at the last minute sounds tricky and expensive.

But, like everybody, I hope they've had the rights sin e the beginning of the event year and are already 75% done building a kick ass house that lives up to the first and makes up for the second previous houses.

I agree with you guys, and I’m not 100% ruling out Stranger Things but the fact that it isn’t a shared property with Hollywood and Hollywood is using their soundstage for The Weeknd raises suspicion and makes me believe it’s not coming this year. Plus all the insider info, and it is too big not to be leaked. Plus wouldn’t universal want to have announced it by now to drive sales?

I think Us was a last minute addition because it was popular in-house IP that could only be sold as a headliner in 2019. Universal wanted to jump on the ship before it sailed if you get what I mean.

The ship has not sailed for Stranger Things yet, especially with Season 5 on the way.

Speculation maps aren’t always 100% and that was still pretty early on in the season.

Fair points you might be 100% right , but just to play devils advocate.
The fact that it is such a big IP could be why they are going through all this trouble to hide it. I’m sure Universal would want to announce some IP to drive sales by now. In the last several years we had the big IP announced in March. If I’m Netflix I would not want the announcement before the show is streaming. Especially since they are doing their own thing.

I doubt creative differences over something as subjective as haunted house quality would get in the way of dollar signs, but there was something definitely up with that second house. The quality was such a far cry from the 2018 house, it was like the designers were indignant about it. Makes you wonder if there was something strained in the relationship between Netflix and UO. Maybe Netflix got a little arrogant and hard to work with after getting that first taste of in-person attraction success? But then again Hill House was so good…

Either way, it’s a really weird situation. Especially given the quality of the rest of the rumored IP, which don’t even come close to ST.

Netflix, to my knowledge, only had an issue with the Hollywood house in 2019. The house in 2019, although not as beloved or executed as well as 2018, still did very well with attendees and brought in revenue for the event.

They're tired nostalgia fodder that exist to push some merch and make a token appearance at the "anniversary" years every five years...

It's the equivalent of Epcot selling Horizons shirts or a Mr. Toad cupcake being sold in MK or Pyramid Head showing up in every single Silent Hill game after the film came out

They are a bit tired and I would rather them do 1) a new icon or 2) just keep leaning in to IP to anchor things

Keep in mind this is coming from someone that started going in 2001 when the icons were introduced

I can only imagine how confusing it is for some folks when the icons make their random appearances for the years that end in five or zero

I'd love to see more ST as a house, I feel there's unfinished business with the property and the event. But I do think it's coming back.

Yup, I believe that was added in late April or May to the Orlando event. Insiders were hearing about US in June.
