I have to say, the only spec that should happen on Monday is if Universal will actually go back and fix some of the issues at the event this past year. (Overcrowding, thematic/aesthetic mess, merch, etc.)

I really love this event and the actors are still great, but it's been hard to defend this year.

As has been the case for the last couple of years, we will create the HHN 34 Spec Thread a week after the event; so the thread is scheduled to be posted on November 11. Until then, reflect on the event that was.

While the general consensus was that this years event didn’t feel complete, or that some things were great and many others fell short.

We have an amazing update from Michael Aiello, he will be directly leading HHN again with HHN34.

This is a huge win for the HHN Community!

2019 was his last full year. He started development on 2020/2021 before he left.

He would poke his head in every so often and give thoughts and advice, but it was not his event by any means.

Who was lead for 32? I'm hoping to see similar vibes of that year return.

I think chasing the vibes of the previous year isn't productive and is bound to lead to disappointment. You always have to be moving forward and evolving. Aiello's had time away to develop entertainment for Epic and not get stuck in the endless cycle of HHN creation, so I'm hoping his deep bed of event knowledge (what works, what doesn't, what he's always hoped to try, etc.) along with his now-broader creative experience will pair nicely with the current team (which seemed due for a shakeup).

Agreed, as much as I loved 32, this is an industry where you wanna' keep progressing. Not to mention some years are just lighting in a bottle, and it could be a detriment to a new year if you're trying to capture a previous one and falter.

Also, you don't get any risks or unique new things if you're trying to replicate the past. Sure, not every risk or new thing is going to work, but you never know unless you try, and that's what I'd like to see the event do. Doing "A Quiet Place", was a risk. And I wholeheartedly enjoyed it!

I certainly look forward to Aiello's return at the helm, especially in a year where we could very well have a return of the lagoon show!

Personally the last really good year was 2019, I went last night and the event just felt like it was put together based on stats and spreadsheets on what people like and not a true creative output that we've seen in the past events. Hopefully next year with him leading we get back to that.

Very interesting! Curious if this is a direct response to lower ratings for this year.

Definitely felt like 2019 was the last time the event felt like a true unified event. There have been spectacular houses/zones since, but the event hasn't been an overall hit in a while for me personally.

Don't think so. I believe the team was tied up with Epic related work, so everyone is returning back to their pre-Epic roles.

I can't wait for Epic, but it's time for the resort to return focus on what made UOR great, especially the events. Mardi Gras has grown stale a bit, HHN too, Holidays might need an update.

I to am curious what feedback actually broke through to them, what did they hear? Especially with the HHN Vegas thing they need actual HHN performing at optimal levels.

2019 is my favorite year I've attended, but I do disagree here.

2022 felt cohesive to me, with the traditional Halloween vibes carrying through the zones and some of the houses.

2023 felt VERY unified - with Oddfellow's presence clearly felt and spread through the entire event.

My guess is merchandise sales went down the drain this year lol. Didn't see a significant checkout line until a week ago with merch at 70% off.

With that said, the event was well attended this year so something worked. I have to imagine locals/FL residents are taking advantage of some pretty good rates at the hotels.

I didn't really think about this, but yeah - we never saw a line in the tribute store. Not even during HHN when there usually is one lol
