Going to have to go ahead and rank this year as a 10/10 for bringing back the PB&J

Theres no dairy warning for the cheese stick? How is a VEGAN walking taco "dairy sensitive?" What are we even doing here?

There are foods that clearly have dairy. Just label them all as "contains dairy" (being specific would be nice) or label none of them.

Trust me - you don't want to walk thru a house with me if I accidentally consume dairy.

I guess you could file this under "well, no duh it has dairy" but it could be perceived as vegan cheese without the warning. Every other sensitivity in the world is listed.

Seems 1/4 butted.

Maybe the online version is the oversight and the actual menu has it correctly?

I think the confusion may be the labeling - correct me if I’m wrong jw. On my end, the vegan walking taco says “dairy sensitive” which indicates people with dairy restrictions CAN eat it (I have an allergy, so I get it - it’s terribly labeled). What looks like a slash through the icons aren’t helping the matter, but I think it’s trying to say it’s SAFE if you are restricted from dairy.

I’ll like to think that but Universal is terrible when it comes to allergies.

Yes. My friends family and I went to epic for example and it was a nightmare trying to get allergy information. Hence epic is a new park bus still Universal isn’t new to this.

I’m genuinely not trying to start a flame war, but seeing how hard HHN’s marketing is pushing FNAF this year it’s genuinely feeling like they’re trying to get the youngest age group ever to attend this year.

I know the franchise has fans of all ages, but there’s merch for the tiniest of dudes readily available for this one property, there’s a huge sign in the storefront that everyone sees walking through Citywalk that basically is like a blue light trap for any eight year old walking into the resort, etc etc

It’s an interesting discussion: I fully expect FNAF to be strictly fun with barely a drop of blood in it and have zero scares. (If rumours are to be believed, A&D designed something scarier and more violent and was told to pull it way back by the rights holders). So is Terrifier intentionally designed to be the way they can counter the “HHN has gone soft” crowd when FNAF is aiming for a disproportionally younger demographic?

I don't think Universal is really "trying" to get any specific age group to attend - they know FNAF is a money maker and it's one of the larger "horror" properties that they still have yet to feature at the event.

I never heard the rumors about A&D though, where did that come from?

I don't see how this is any different from Frozen Empire last year, which was fairly light on scares, and also had apparel for children.

Oddly enough I had someone who also went and thought it was the best universal park for allergies and options. Go figure.

I just saw a post that found mention of an HHN specific scavenger hunt that "lets you take home a piece of the horror" if you find all the medallions throughout the event.

That's a cool little addition, and seems like a direct response to the "we need more to do" complaints from the last few years.

Edit: The link seems to lead to something called "The Backlot Club". Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Sort of....it's the reworked one from HHN 31 that replaced the hot honey drizzle with chili flakes.

Food & Beverage Price Change Summary
  • Savory Items up +13.8%
  • Sweet Items up +15.7%
  • Souvenir Cup up 5.9%
  • Souvenir Refill up +2.1%
  • Wine is same as last year
  • Canned Beer is up 3%

The cheapest cocktail/beer to purchase the souvenir cup from is the Cat's Meow at the HHN Bar or $14.50 for Michelob Ultra. (any other cocktail averages at $18-20 for the cup)

It'll be interesting to see the reception of Twister Taters this year. The price, for what is essentially just a bag of chips albeit fresher, is the same price as a traditional twisted tater was at $9.99 last year. While I'm sure it's the same amount of potato as the traditionally twisted form, it'll be interesting to see if its popularity dies down this year since it's not as instagram-able as it was before?

Ghostbusters, as beloved as the franchise is, does not have the same cultural cache with very young people in the same capacity. Ghostbusters has also had a presence at Universal since the start, so clothing items are going to be available.

FNAF has never had a presence at Universal prior to HHN. This is the first outright HHN specific property that intentionally seems to be marketed with younger audiences in mind.

Ehh, this is a stretch. They've never featured FNAF before because it was never a hit Blumhouse/Universal movie before. It was inevitable after the movie became one of the highest grossing horror movies ever (number 14 I believe), it just took them till now to negotiate the rights.

In terms of properties marketed with younger audiences in mind: even if you don't count Ghostbusters, we've had multiple years of Stranger Things now.

Back when HHN used to do nice things for APs, there was a Q&A with Mike and the rest of the team where we could ask whatever we wanted. Considering it was 28, I asked Mike directly about how they wanted to tackle Stranger Things, noting that the house was much more intense than most people expected.

He said that the house was designed with the mission to scare the people who were fans of the show, to elevate the horror elements that were there and really HHN-ify them. The merch, advertising and presence at the event were intentionally sculpted to fit the Horror Nights mold.

What the FNAF house actually is, I guess we’ll find out tomorrow night. But as far as the marketing roll out and current installed presence at the event, it is being presented in an entirely different way than the other IPs I’ve seen come to the event.

It’s not about when they could do it, it’s about how it is currently being displayed now that they have ability to do so. I’m thinking anything tonally with this franchise has been guided more heavily than usual at the event by the creative powers that hold the keys.
