^ Gonna step in and just say, no. I was shown the idea for the opening ceremony and it is really really cool. I think it might be pulled off well.

I am a little disappointed they didn't put a SZ in the Simpson's area. Seems like a wasted space. Oh well.

The only thing they would be able to put in Simpsons Plaza is Treehouse of Horror and Universal has made it pretty clear they have no intention of investing money into that, unfortunately. Not to mention wearing bulky suits like thst during HHN would be a nightmare.

I thought they left simpsons without a scare zone because they wanted it to stay family friendly

Sort of a refuge spot

Idk i think i heard that once

I don't think creating a family-friendly refuge spot at Halloween Horror Nights is their priority, quite frankly..

Why not? It would require no effort what so effort. Plus less chances of something going wrong and suing Universal. That's always a good thing.

^pretty much... and Springfield will just have too much congestion as it is anyway... Springfield dining, Simpsons Ride, midway games, Terror Tram, entrance/exit to Lower Lot, Jabbawockeez exit (I'm not familiar with where castle theatre shows dump out at during HHN).... It would be a nightmare (and not the good kind) to have a SZ in that section of the park..

As for Treehouse of Horrors, I've addressed this before... It would be in the form of an overlay for the ride. Simpsons creators wanted to do it, Universal said "no".

I'm not quite sure I understand what point you're trying to make.

Halloween Horror Nights isn't geared towards the family, it's a premier scare event. I'm not saying that we should expect scare actors running around Springfield this year, as that's  obviously not the case, but it wouldn't make sense for them to make a designated refuge area in the middle of the park during a haunt event (especially to avoid being sued).

So. That's it, huh? Like that Dark Christmas is coming back but unless these mazes blow y'all away, I will be sitting this one out.

Meanwhile Orlando sits dormant with four out of nine mazes announced so far, and zero scarezones. Event starts in less than a month, too. I know there's attraction announcements rumored for UOR tomorrow so hopefully that'll be lopped in there.

yea... HHN is just not winning at life this year on either coast.

so much cut back for Hollywood, poorly handled anniversary for Orlando.

HHN be like, "Hey guys! We're raising the prices this year! But don't worry, all of that money is going to improve the event! We have less mazes than ever, no VIP option this year, fewer scarezones than ever, mostly repeated content, and a show that nobody asked for!" MORE DEAD THAN EVER!!!!!

Glad I'm going to Florida this year. Even though it could've been better, the rumored line-up sounds amazing compared to ours. AT LEAST THEY STILL HAVE BILL AND TED.

I have a friend who's been doing audio/lighting for Orlando's houses/SZs, the line-up is pretty much accurate... And don't forget they also have a new Jack the Clown show this year as well, which has been doing rehearsals for the past week or so now until ungodly hours in the morning. Should be quite awesome. B&T started their rehearsals this past Monday...

meanwhile in Hollywood....

Yea I have never been this unexcited for HHN in a while. Last time was 2010 but that ended up being one of my favorite years so I am catiously optimistic.

Honestly can't believe the hiked up the prices with less offerings than last year and a mostly rehashed line up. I mean I'm sure i'll enjoy it but it feels like such a slap in the face.

I wanted to put my thoughts on the Scarezones and no VIP...

Exterminatorz: Intrigued. Having hope it does well, but it just...the name. Why does the Z have to return? I mean, cmon; it just feels like beating a dead horse with another dead horse for scarezone names to me.

Corpz: Its Corpz, and it could be something else.

Dark Christmas: I gotta admit, this i'm happy its returning. But is it me or why do i think that they could of tied it in with the Krampus film? Still, happy its back.

Purge - Urban Nightmare: Why do i feel this is Overkill? I'd be fine with just one and not the other but it just feels..off to me.

I'll say also, it makes no sense to drop VIP. Its just a stupid idea to drop it, especially since it'd bring in revenue.

Also, I get why theres not a fifth scarezone in the Lower lot portion, especially with how packed its going to become; it just wouldn't help. So yea..

I saw the writing on the wall for this trend in 2013. Things started to feel very stale for me. I think business has gotten the best of the event. HHN in it's reincarnation sounds like it was just an experiment, a "sure, why not?" type of mentality. Year after year, the event grew, and as that growth happened, the money people saw more and more opportunity to capitalize on the event. I really think the suits have more control than Murdy does at this point, in terms of what properties and resources. Maybe that's why he figured 10 years was smart span to run the event? Why give the event a higher budget (Not sure how accurate, but I've heard more than one employee say the budget basically shrinks every year) when they can cut it down, raise prices, oversell tickets and maximize profit? At this point they can almost guarantee sell out nights the majority of the event, so why take the extra step in offering guests more for their money? Is it the right way of thinking? No. Is it the corporate mindset? Most likely. I think most things in life happen best when they have a "Young and Hungry" attitude. Musicians, filmmakers, artists, writers, mostly do their best work in their rise to stardom, once they hit the top, things start to change for better or worse.

I could be totally wrong, but that's my best bet as to what's going on as this event matures.

I'm too tired to really go into details... but yes, pretty much everything you said is more or less correct.

Sadly, Comcast/Universal has been simply relying on the name "Halloween Horror Nights" to sell itself, rather than provide an amazing event with great quality & enough content to justify the price increases... Its been this way for years now on both coasts.

Meanwhile in Singapore & Japan.....

I'm actually going to be in Japan October 21st through the 31st (in Tokyo).  What is HHN at USJ like?  Would it be worth a day trip to go to HHN there?

They actually change the projection videos for Terminator 2:3D and Back to the Future to fit the theme! Last year, they had "The Ring" for T23D and "The Grudge" for BttF. But, like Singapore, they only have a short amount of mazes.

YES! GO TO UNIVERSAL JAPAN! (They still have The Jaws Ride!!!)... Anyway, as with Orlando vs Hollywood, any opportunity to attend HHN at the other Universal parks should be taken advantage of. I would kill to go one year because finding any kind of footage from their event is very hard to come by. Even reviews are sparse, but I would definitely say to attend if given the chance. All of us here would LOVE a trip report!

During the daytime, they have family-friendly Halloween entertainment (parade, shows, character meet-n-greets, trick-r-treating, themed snacks), then at night you have your normal HHN experience similar to what you'd expect from here/Orlando only more Asian influenced & taken more seriously. This year has a strong line-up..

MAZES:

- Alien vs Predator (NEW FOR 2015)

- Nightmare on Elm Street: The Night Killer (NEW FOR 2015)

- Trauma: Most Fear Experiment Ward ("original" maze for ages 15+ ONLY) - *upcharge experience (NEW FOR 2015)

- Chucky's Horror Factory 2

- Resident Evil: The Real 3 (laser-tag attraction)

HAUNTED ATTRACTIONS:

- Gakkou no Kaidan ("haunted school") - Shrek 4D - NEW FOR 2015

- Ju-on ("The Grudge") - BTTF

- Sadako ("The Ring") - Space Fantasy, T23D, Backdraft

- Zombies once again take over the streets of Universal Japan... (complete with zombie flash mob dance)

you can even purchase a light-up HHN lanyard with a heart to wear to get the attention of the zombies
