They wanted it FAST (which they really don't know how to do anymore).

It is absolutely mind boggling how less than four years after Disneyland opened they designed and built the Matterhorn, Submarines, and Monorail, yet now it's a 10 year process to clone an existing attraction...

Yes. They were really caught off guard with Frozen's phenomenal success. They had Nothing planned. Remember the popsicle stick cutouts and the use of a ride tour space for a Frozen themed area at DHS. That helped save what had started as a dead summer attendance at DHS and reinvigorated the attendance.

They did the Frozen Sing Along in DHS to get SOMETHING into the parks ASAP.

That was a show thrown together in a few weeks to cash-in on the craze, and is somehow still basically playing today with a few minor changes nine years later. And was cloned to DCA, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai...

I miss the Frozen version of Fantasy Faire, honestly, and that only took them a little over a year to get off the ground.

It was quick, clever, and popular enough to warrant them offering Fastpass for it.

In fact, that show could actually still work in a proper Frozen land as it could be storytellers in Arendelle recounting the tale.

I feel like ideally Disney should just have plans ready to go for whatever new property becomes popular. You don't have to draw up plans or anything, but just have parcels of property you have in mind for when something becomes big and blue sky concepts that can be executed on within 4 to 5 years.

Of course, in order to do that, the company has to be starting from a place of financial stability.

Sleeping Beauty Castle came out years before the film because Walt also had faith in the projects they are doing.

Disney now, needs to slow down and try to make each film a classic even if that means only 1 animated film a year from either Pixar or Disney animated

I also wonder even if Disney did want to copy this area (and make it smaller) how long that would be, no joke feels like it would them them 3-4 years if they are rushing

From what I have seen of them both I prefer the HK version of this land over what they are building in Japan - for some reason their version looks wrong. BUT I think the Japan ride will be surperior so lets swap out forever after and bring the Japan ride but HK land to Disneyland.

OLC is pretty strict on the exclusivity of the rides they get there. I can't imagine their Frozen ride will ever be cloned anywhere else.

I don't believe Disney knew what they had, Frozen went through development hell and was pretty much thrown out there once it could be considered done from what I can recall. I remember Disney Infinity back in the day only had standalone Anna and Elsa figures with no actual Frozen world to play and explore in, they had a few Power Up discs that amounted to a texture for the skybox, floor, and a music track all based on concept art, not the movie. The Disc's themselves also featured Anna concept art on them, not the official renders that every other character had. They were given less content than The Lone Ranger and was on par with "heavy hitters" like Tron. Vertical Integration was rushed and slapdash.

Hence, when the parks found out they had armies of 6 years olds lining the gates to meet Anna, Olaf, and Elsa, they were probably a bit blindsided by it all. Hence why the only Frozen stuff at Disney Parks was temporary or lower tier attractions, or just in marketing for a while. It's why they threw Elsa into her own Princess M&G room as soon as they could find the space, why Olaf was on the marketing for Marathons, Summer Events, and the 24 Hour Events, and why the only Frozen attraction for a bit was the Sing Along. It's all they had the time and resources to do.

So you're WDW, and you need a Frozen ride, and a surrounding land complete with a gift shop and other sub-attractions. And you need all of it right now. Building one from scratch would be ideal, but costly and time consuming. But you do have a low capacity, low attendance, thematically inconsistent boat ride in a Norway land complete with museums, gift shops, and food pre-baked in. And Epcot could probably handle the foot traffic that a Frozen ride would be bring in a way that Hollywood couldn't pre-Toy/Star. That's why we never got Elsa's Castle, and why Disney's biggest success of the 2010's is seemingly relegated to get a Maelstrom clone til the end of time. :dizzy:
I think that’s also at least *part* of why they aren’t rushing anything in regards to Encanto. They almost assuredly know what they have with Encanto and I can guarantee you they don’t want to make the same mistake again of forcing the IP somewhere it doesn’t belong just for the sake of getting it in the parks quick rather than doing it right.

Sure but as a Poster above said, they should be blue shying all feature films before they come out. Not like Full attractions but art of what a meet and greet, show or ride could be.

Disney is already very slow with putting together attractions, so having a head start would help out with that.
