Just thought about something, aren’t the 2 statues in the middle of the water supposed to have fire effects? Maybe we just haven’t seen them fully functioning yet?

None of the flame effects in the park are working yet, except for the Burning Blade Tavern.

I wonder if it has anything to do with not being able to turn the lines on until construction nearby is finished… phase 2 dining maybe in this case. Blue Dragon for torches in Darkmoor. Just a guess though.

It's in very good shape at the moment and from the outside appears to be nearing completion (doors were open so you could peek inside). I'd share photos but Universal has signs up around it asking for no photographs of that particular area.

At the latest it could be running when AP previews start.

As far as the Berk show building, what is done is done. But it was done in an unfortunate way, in my mind. And I think there's something to learn from it, as Universal Creative is actively building theme parks elsewhere in the world. Maybe it could be done better elsewhere.

The way the Berk show building was positioned and structurally designed unfortunately maximized its scale and distracting qualities. First, it is positioned so that the very widest dimension (an angle from one corner of the building to the opposite corner) is what faces the rest of the land, maximizing the visual width of the building. Second, it is designed with as many sharp angles and linear feet of visible edges as possible, and that angularity is jarring, modern, and discordant

Without hardly spending any additional money, I believe a better result could have been achieved by:

1. Turning the building so the narrow dimension is facing the land. This could have reduced the visual impact by 30% alone.

2. Put a rounded front to the building to soften its shape. A rounded building looks like an arc when seen from the ground, which is natural and pleasing, and feathers down to the horizon at the sides. A rounded front would have added minimal to the construction costs.

3. The rounded front creates negative spaces flanking the center that can be used for trees.

4. Currently, the thematic wood facade of the theater is wide and hidden to the back of the approach. It's a place they spent money but it doesn't do a lot of work. For the same expenditure, a narrow facade that hides the very front of the rounded building would have better hidden the building, created a landmark to navigate to, and distracted the eye from the warehouse shape as the dominant structural form.

5. Use scenic murals but also add a profile top (trees, mountains, etc.) to make it believable. Adding a parapet wall along the top of a facade is a nominal cost.

I would shorten your box perimeter. It isn't that noticeable until you start getting near the Fyre Drill.

I also thought it may be interesting to propose in a simplified diagram of how the rotational position of a show building can affect the visual scale. This is a simplified theme park (say, like Universal's upcoming new park in the UK) with a central lake. The show building is the Berk theater, taken from Google Earth.

Positioning the building so the narrow dimension is presented to as much walkway as possible reduces the visual scale and allows whatever mitigation expenses there are (themed facades, rockwork, trees, murals) to be concentrated on a smaller area allowing for more efficient spending on what guests can actually see.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but what exactly gets you wet on Fyre Drill? I've seen a few off-ride videos but nothing seems to shoot out at the riders.

Mostly other riders hah. If no one shoots at you, you can typically make it off fairly unscathed. I got more wet from a boat shooting into the queue and getting a direct hit on me while I was in line than I did on the ride.

There are little things on the ride that get you tiny bits of wet, but nothing dramatic for the most part. But it only takes one good shot from another boat to leave you soaked

As far as we could tell, do NOT shoot at the blue X targets if you start on the left side of the boat, lol. They triggered water effects that directly soaked us, haha. Not sure if this holds true for the other side, or if there is a way to trigger them to soak the opposite side, but definitely what we found. Also, while you can't splash from off ride, you definitely can splash FROM the ride to get non-riders. Aim for the rocks, over the fence for the queue, and you'll want to beat a hasty retreat out of Berk to avoid the wrath of soaked vikings, haha

Not gonna lie I really love them — goofy in the perfect way. But yeah, now I don’t really see this lasting long.

They should set up a special event for these to serve a better purpose because it’s kind of awkward just to have them flying around like that.
