I can’t imagine this ride is long for this world. This sort of thing, while extreme in this case, is not uncommon. I would not recommend people go on this ride because the chance of downtime + the way that downtime is served is … unpleasant.

I can't believe how many news stations ran with coverage on this. I saw KTLA's video on it and the commentary was horrible.

It’s been picked up by national press! Not great!

I don’t know how this incident occurred, but the way the ride is operated requires the tower op to keep their foot on a plunger-style pedal during the entire ride sequence. That’s not unheard of; many swinging ships have the same mechanism to make sure operators don’t wander away from the panel.

But if you take your food off a swinging ship pedal, the ride coasts back to a neutral position. Sol Spin, for god only knows what reason, freezes in mid-air. To make matters worse, the pedal does not feel very precise, which makes it challenging to know if your foot is in the right place.

Anyway, I’d bin this thing tomorrow.

The amount of "lawyer up" comments on KTLA's coverage was nuts.

Anyway, interesting insight on the plunger pedal! I don't think anyone would be upset if they scrapped it, and it surely isn't worth the bad press.

The Windseeker curse lives on.

I kinda enjoy the ride, but I won't lose sleep if they can it. I think some good candidates for a replacement would be a Zamperla Endeavor or Nebulus, or that Spinvasion ride from Kennywood. All of those would be pretty good candidates for a flat replacement.

If they really want to be cost-effective (And this is the scenario I really want), but it would be great if they could ship the Orbit from CGA. It's an older and rare flat, but I would love to see an old-school enterprise make its way back here!

I'm assuming this is routine?
Wouldn't be sad if they replace this ride.

Sorry for being MIA & the lack of updates/commentary... I'm STILL recovering from haunt season a month later lol

Anyway. Here's your Sol Spin update:

Great to have you back, I was just wondering where you’d been the other day!

Let’s hope they can keep this open and don’t have to replace it earlier than necessary. It’s a solid high capacity flat ride, and the more of those they can fit in a park the better IMO

is it high capacity? I know the target capacity is 600-something, but if it's ever hit anything near that I'd be stunned.

The only thing "high capacity" at Knott's is waittimes

Sol Spin update:

The part that caused the malfunction the other weekend has been replaced with one that will help "reduce the chance of the incident happening again". Think of it as a minor upgrade.

The water dummies have been removed & testing is set to resume tonight (friday). If all goes well, Sol Spin should be back in action tomorrow (Saturday).

If it is operational, I'll jump on since it's been forever & I need to be reminded why I don't ride it often lol

In the meantime, here's a pic of Boysen Bear

Heh... well... it clearly cycled a little bit, then got stuck again. Soooo still down for technical issues

The plant/railing made it tough to get a shot of the control booth, but i tried

In other news, the reason why Xccelerator is only operating with one train is due to the system malfunctioning when they try to do it with two. It's apparently "too complicated" for the computer system to function correctly. Which is why the red train has been seen dismantled next to the track backstage

Oh yea, and the log ride was down all day on Friday. Not sure if it was operating yesterday or today. But... from what I heard, it was possibly a lift belt issue. Not fully sure. Figured I'd mention it incase anyone was curious.

Here's some random Knott's p0rn

Operations for Dragon Swing are awful. They don't load it to capacity, despite having a line. Each row seats roughly 3-4 people. They wouldn't seat other groups of two together & even put a single rider in their own row. Basically causing an unnecessary extended waittime.

Sol Spin still down, but back in its "rest position" & not stuck elevated like the other day. Also "Wipeout" is still dismantled & sitting behind the wall. *sigh*

For any Knott's history buffs, they recently released this 300+ page book (with a TON of pictures) about the history of Knott's Berry Tales.

You can order it here, although it will likely arrive after the holidays at this point: Bear-y Tales Preserved — Fantasy Funwheel

Sol Spin is currently test cycling. It has to cycle 100 times without issue before it can reopen

Asking on this with the verge of the new year ahead, what are the odds that SFCorp is weighing the options on MonteZOOMas future; if it might be a better idea to scrap it?

As much as I detest the idea of a quiet pulling of the rug, with the quiet closures or Anaconda, Nighthawk, and other attractions; I have to wonder if it even makes sense to continue with the project. Also doesn’t help that it looks to of been stagnated again in work.
