It was a fun house, and I would say the "experience" of it is quite unnerving. I can't fathom why the line was so long for it though, especially since Pumpkin Eater had such low wait times.

Yeah! Pumpkin Eater was super underrated last year, I actually thought it was one of the best houses. Lights Out was very unique but not really scary at all. I can't imagine how good that house would be if they made the lights dimmer and added more scareactors.

I think my thing with Lights Out, from what I saw on the video at least, is they just made a dark house with flashlights and didn't bother to solve the one problem KSF still has -- theatricality with the scares.

Unfortunately a lot of the monsters don't have the restraint to pop out and do their one scare. But even more unfortunately, their mazes aren't designed in a manner that gives good hiding places, or even a lot of story -- half the time, the monsters are random to a room and don't fit the scene or even the environment or the maze at all -- just a generally scary looking thing.

Essentially, I feel KSF just designs a scary looking place and says "have at it." But there needs to be things in place that says, "THIS IS THE SCARE OF THE ROOM BECAUSE THE STORY RELIES ON IT." It's cool they get creative freedom, but not enough of them are professional enough to make this work consistently. And I think KSF needs to start thinking about the scare on a room by room basis back when they design the maze.

I've always said HHN should learn from KSF and vice-versa. While I prefer HHN's style, if they implemented more random scareactors into the mazes for those that miss the pop out scare, they'd be doubling their scare factor. And if KSF implemented more set-scares, they'd be doing better also. Whichever one of them figures this out first will be all the better for it.

I see what you're saying, but I'm glad that KSF doesn't scare like HHN. The final room in Dark Ride enhances the idea that KSF is more relying on chaos in environment rather than startling people. I would say it works too. I saw WAY more scared adults at KSF than HHN last year.

They definitely have implemented scares based on story more as they've gone on. It bears repeating that Pumpkin Eater did an AMAZING job with this last year. The killer, the wives, all were in on trying to get you, the victim, into the oven to turn you into a pie. Shadowlands is the structural converse of the same concept. The story, while not as cohesive, has several set pieces as tributes to Japanese horror. Each scare is relatively precise but does offer a little room for improv.

I will say the weaker houses Red Barn, Tooth Fairy, and Trick or Treat don't implement those same methods...which is why they end up being weak.

The thing that I’m most anticipating tonight is if they have a full house since they screwed up the emails for passholders lol

Oh god it was such a mess, nobody really knew when they were being sent out kinda just happened. A lot of people didn't even get an invite it seems.

Please don't tell me the unannounced experience is the Time Zombies VR overlay, that would be really disappointing.

Interesting, I guess we might be getting Mine Ride after all.

Well, the leaker was right. I'm just glad they're playing off a couple of untapped horror tropes for the event (space and water.)

Interestingly enough those are basically my two favorite things to see in a Haunt. Very very excited for this year. (Aside from the lingering disappointment of the lack of a Mine Train Overlay)

Surprised that it's Hacks that's returning after so long.

Happy about Bird Cage being used, surprised that it wasn't; as it makes a lot of sense for that venue to be used.

As for Dark Entities and The Depths...I am very excited for DE, but Depths has me shrugging it for a weird way.

I hope it proves me wrong, but I am more fond of the story and setting that DE is doing as opposed to Depths.

I think The Depths has ghost pirates? That alone makes me excited.

His final Knott’s house, too before he helps out Queen Mary next year

The Depths has a slightly Lovecraft feel to me given the setting, time period, and promise of aquatic terrors and transformed people. It reminds me a lot of “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” in the best of ways

Gonna be a pass for me this year, unfortunately. Will have to see Depths and DE next year. Cool that Hacks is back, it's been some time, hope they stick around! I also love the premise of the show. And after all that, the experience is a shop?! BOOOOOO!!!!
