Heard from cousin Smash is fun but at same time okay. It won’t attract new fans who didn’t love the show it seems.

And as a fan of the show, I'm really shocked by some of the song omissions. No "History Is Made at Night"??

People on TikTok seem to really like it but the ending is supposed to be bad.

Word on the street is both Boop and Smash are disappointing in some capacity. Also not hearing great stuff about Redwood. We have only one saviour now: Dead Outlaw (actually good if they don't f up the transfer).

Cousin also didn’t care for Redwood at all. I’ve only followed from a far, but it seems all the new musicals are largely disappointing this season when it was expected to be a banger of a season. Curious what these means for Tony noms.

The initial Redwood reviews were basically “Go for Idina and almost nothing else.”

The one person I talked to said, "and her voice is not the same as it used to be".

Death Becomes Her is killer, campy fun! They are unfortunately likely going to run up against the Sunset Boulevard Nicole juggernaut, but I genuinely think a crowd pleaser isn't a bad thing in a season of polarizing offerings.

Do I think it will be considered as seriously as other shows because it's an over the top comedy? Eh, jury's out there, but still see it picking up quite a few noms

FANTASTIC news, The Shed NYC is hosting punchdrunk's Viola's Room guided immersive show!

https://www.theshed.org/program/444-violas-room

Feel your way through a labyrinthine world as an unseen narrator recounts a story of lost innocence and unleashed obsession.

Written by Daisy Johnson (shortlisted for the Booker Prize) and narrated by Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter, The Crown, The King’s Speech), Viola’s Room reimagines a classic gothic mystery for a new audience.

Created and brought to life by Punchdrunk (Sleep No More), this production distills two decades of their immersive practice into an intimate sensory adventure.

Experienced barefoot and wearing headphones, Viola’s Room promises to infuse the dreams of anyone who dares to follow the light.

If you can go see it, do it. Heard nothing but rave things. It's only through Ocober right now but I'm expecting it to extend.

BroadwayHD has added a 50th Anniversary Concert of “Pippin” that I finally sat down and watched. I knew a lot of the songs (obvs… it’s got a killer audition repertoire), but didn’t know the show itself.

Holy f-in shite… what a brilliantly subversive piece of art.

Went to see the National Tour of Back to the Future: the Musical today.

I hate to say it… but we walked out at intermission.

Forgettable songs, horrible book, and performances that would’ve been too much for a theme park production. My wife described it as, “about as good as my middle school improv group.”

I am not one to walk out of a show. I’ve sat through a college student’s class project musical based on the Holocaust. The only show I have ever walked out on before was a high school production of South Pacific. BttF was just as bad as those.

The issue wasn’t the performers. I actually felt bad for them because they’re playing it as broadly as they were directed to. It was the production itself that was just atrocious. Every possible decision they could have made was cranked to 88 on the camp meter.

Even the spectacle of the Delorean going back to 1955 was serviceable enough for one watch but not compelling enough for me to want to stick around for the climax. It’s basically a shadow-cast of the movie… at which point you might as well watch the movie.

The fact that dreck even got a Broadway run was so disappointing.

THANK YOU! While I wouldn't call it drek, and on Broadway I got to see g-d Roger Bart, but man, that show is a mess. I legit think the main theme is one step above the Star Wars SNL sketch.

Forgot to mention I got tickets to see Two Strangers for May 24!

Thank you for the review. It’s coming to Portland next year and I was considering it. Is the Delorean effect cool?

I saw it on Broadway, and it’s not good. The songs are largely forgettable to outright bad.

The thing about a tour is you’re inevitably going to have to scale back the sophistication and scope of the effects. The one compelling element of the show was the in-theater effects (which, yes, plays directly into the criticism that it was a supercharged theme park show), and you lose most of the punch of those on tour. None of what you’ve said surprises me.

Yeah, it's... been a morning. No cast or crew appeared to know ahead of time and found out with everyone else. The circumstances are obviously extremely unusual, so any of the obvious reasons for a closure (i.e. "they ran out of money") don't quite make sense.
