The OC Register has posted an article (It’s paid unfortunately but article was posted on Facebook) that discloses that there was indeed a plan to revive the People Mover back in 2013. The track was(is?) in better shape than rumored and could “easily support” several ride vehicles. It was simply cut due to budget.

Forgive me if the link sucks. I saw it from a FB group and wanted to post it to cite my source but again it’s paid. But yeah, the article proves that Disney does have the ability to pull it off, but they just don’t want to put down the money. Seriously pisses me off with how much more income they have had since then.

Best part is with Avatar Land coming and the monorail needing to be shut down, they could kill two birds with one stone and close off that section of the land and update it...but yeah they won't and in 20 years we will maybe get lucky

My guess is they are going to wait until Disney forward adds another subland or land behind Splash and then they will feel better about redoing TL, in sections

I just want Space Mountain to use screen or better projection tech and become super themed while on the coaster part, if they can make you feel like your flying through space vs just in the dark then I think it will be worth the years of work

I might be too hopeful, but my hope is that Tomorrowland was canned in favor of giving the project team more time to develop a plan for the eastern side of Disneyland while investing into DCA fully with projects already underway.

I think splitting the Autopia/Subs site with a half Fantasyland/half new Tomorrowland is the way to go.

Would love to see the space taken over by a Frozen/Tangled/BatB like area (or Villains). I expect Disneyland's Tomorrowland to receive slower updates like how MK's version is getting at the moment. Back to the mid-century look that's relatively easy (and cheap) to update.

Ideally I would love to use the TL half for TL (Maybe for DL’s version of the Tron coaster?) and the FL half to be used for a Matterhorn 2.0. Think what TDL is doing with their Space Mountain but with the Matterhorn. Matterhorn’s time is going to come eventually so I think they need to build a new one. Reserving the FL half of the Autopia/Subs space would be in their best interest.

Luckily he’s not in charge anymore. I pray that the D’Amaro + Dana team is more interested in sprucing up an opening day (kinda) DL land that has fallen into such disrepair.

Maybe this is me snorting lots of Copium, but D’Amaro strikes me as the kind of guy that seems to care more about why we want than Iger. Would love for something to finally come of TL.

Maybe stop overthinking it and not try to tie TL to a major IP. Make it original in overall theme. Disney will still take their time before they get to finally touching TL. Maybe get the first phase of Simba done to help with the capacity loss when TL does go down.

I've been trying to break a story about this for a long time, but my thesis is that Tomorrowland doesn’t work as a concept in 2026. The progressive view of the future (as in, one set to be saved by technology) really only worked … in 1955.

They’ve got to go a different direction or fully lean into nostalgia IMO.

That is probably the answer. A fictional version of the future makes a lot of sense.

Funny thing is, that's what they wanted the "Tomorrowland 2055" redo to be, essentially taking a page from DLP's Discoveryland. Unfortunately, what DL got instead was a whole lotta' budget cuts, bronze/copper paint, Rocket Rods and disappointment.

Nonetheless, I do firmly agree the best direction to take Tomorrowland is a fictionalized version of the future. One that ends up timeless instead of running dated. Discoveryland does it great, and I honestly loved the Buck Rodgers type of ascetic that WDW's Tomorrowland used to have. But you do need the budget and then some to make it work, cutting corners just leaves you with the same problems as before.

I actually like the idea of keeping Tomorrowland stuck inn the Atomic era. My only stipulations are these:

1) People Mover back (Duh)

2) A coaster of some sort.

The Atomic era sounds preferable in isolation, but my only fear is that if they do this, they won't do any sort of new ride in the carousel theater as there would be no viable IP to tie it into. They could always do a Fantastic 4 themed coaster which would fit that aesthetic perfectly.

Don't know if they'll do this after the new movie was a colossal flop, but I also wouldn't mind if they went for the slick Tron aesthetic either. It does tie into the synth-wave aesthetic which is fairly popular in internet culture....at least anecdotally.

Whatever they do, I strongly advocate for a coaster to go in the Carousel spot....even if that means sacrificing Autopia or even the subs. Tomorrowland has always been big on kinetic energy and a coaster going around the Rocket Jets platform with the People Mover on top of that would be gold.

I know everyone wants a new TL, but I don't think the new CEO is going to touch this land for years

Like USH, they only do one thing at a time mostly now. Disneyland resort is focusing on DCA and also on the side will be working on the Eastern Gateway. Both of those projects will cost lots of money and be using lots of people. So I doubt they will be redoing one of the bigger lands at the same time

Even then park of Disney Concern is valid, losing even half the land would affect the park. So we might see them put a land behind the Bayou or them adding onto Galaxy Edge first to make it where they don't have to cut more people from entering the park while they work on the land

At this point I'd rather wait 10 years and the land be transformed for good then force it to happen and not see the thematic changes that would make the land feel relevant for a long time then a quick fix.

Also I am hoping for something more like in Tokyo then Paris

"The Future That Never Was and Never Will Be" has always been the appropriate direction for Tomorrowland in a post-EPCOT world. The remixed Buck Rogers stylings of WDW's New Tomorrowland was on the right track, in my opinion, and I think it would've continued to age well in totality had they not given up on it and dismantled it piece by piece. A Verne-inspired Discoveryland is also a valid take -- there's no shortage of utopian visions of the future to draw from! They just require money, and when you don't spend it, you get Disneyland's dismal "New Tomorrowland," as @Tobias pointed out.
