NBC Peacock may be free for all users

Yeah, that's what I'm really saying all along. They know most people don't subscribe to a service with a decently small amount of content, so why not, let's make it free for everyone. NBC Peacock lost the bid to South Park and hasn't been giving us the good news in terms of content compared to Disney + and HBO Max. We haven't even got a trailer about NBCU's Peacock and it's coming out a month before HBO Max.

i can’t find this anywhere but do we know if Telemundo will be included with peacock? That would be a major deal seeing as Netflix has recently started pushing their dub shows to Telemundo.

Certain Telemundo shows will be coming like La Reina Del Sur, Betty En Ny, etc.

Posting regarding ads...

so if they are doing pod ads, it means one ad right after opening title sequence for NBC and one ad before end credits.

Unsurprisingly, ad loads will be much lower than on linear TV. Peacock will be deploying prime pods, which are the one-minute commercial breaks that NBCU has been utilizing on its linear networks over the past year. Movies will be presented with more-limited commercials.

Earlier in the year, CNBC reported that Peacock will air between three and five minutes of ads per hour.

NBC is also putting frequency caps in place, so consumers will not be served the same ad from a brand over and over. “They are being smart about ad exposure,” one person says.

Hopefully for Blumhouse movies as well. And NBCUniversal's original content needs to be ramped up to be actually as good as HBO Max as well as FOX and AMC. As of now, they really have nothing to hype up the audience with.

Thank god, I hate the idea of having ads interrupting during the middle of a show or movie. It would have been counterproductive.

The powerhouse known as The Office can’t be refuted for shows, and Good Place/Law and Order are pretty awesome, but I agree.

Content is subjective. As a example look at TLJ. Some people will love certain content others will love other. However lets point out the facts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Television:
NBC is the most watched television network based on yearly ratings for those who advertisers care about.
Top-Rated Channels of 2018: TV Network Winners & Losers | IndieWire
USA is the most watched entertainment cable network based on yearly ratings.
109 Cable Channels Ranked by Viewers, From Fox News to Comedy.TV
Telemundo is the most watched Spanish Network for those aged 18-49
TELEMUNDO STATIONS TOP UNIVISION AS #1 MOST-WATCHED FOR LOCAL NEWS | NBCUniversal Media Village
Dreamworks shows are the most watched kid shows on Netflix with She-Ra and Boss Baby Back in Business being two of their top tier kid shows.
Also L+35 data has shown that there is a huge increase of viewership on NBC shows.
Multiplatform Ratings Data Shows Big Shift in Viewing Habits | Hollywood Reporter

Lets now get into the production of Universal television shows.
NBCUniversal International Studios (Working Title, Carnival, Matchbox, Focus, Sky Studios, NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, Heyday Television)
NBCUniversal Content Studios (Universal Television, Universal Content Productions, Universal Cable Productions)
Dreamworks Television Animation
Telemundo Studios

NBCUniversal International Studios Key highlights: Downtown Abbey, The Tudors, The Slap, Nowhere Boys, Chernobyl, Seven Deadly Sins, Fate/Stay, Golden Kamuy, Penny Dreadful
NBCUniversal Content Studios Key Highlights: Mr Robot, Suits, The Good Place, The Act, Homecoming, particularly all USA and Syfy shows, Umbrella Academy, The Office
Dreamworks Television: Voltron, She-Ra, Boss Baby: Back in Business, Harvey Street Forever, Rocky and Bullwinkle
Telemundo Studios: La Reina Del Sur, Betty En NY

NBCUniversal Owned Channels: E!(Reality Television), Bravo (Women's Centric), Syfy (Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy), USA (Blue Sky Television), Oxygen (Crime), Universal Kids (Family Channel)
Content wise even for upcoming original content, Universal Television is pretty stacked with something for everyone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Film:
Universal actually has the most Oscar statues for best picture (not most Oscars overall though) and add in their ownership of Amblin it helps increases the number.

Film rights are convoluted which makes this conversation a lot more complicated as Universal actually produced films distributed by other sides with Universal still owning the IP (Baby Driver for example).

Universal is the second/third leader of the film market with most major IP franchises coming from in house (Fast and Furious, Despicable Me, etc). This bodes well for them for original films.

Studios on the service:
Focus Features
Working Title Films
Amblin Partners
Sky Originals
Dreamworks Animation
Illumination
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hours of content:
Right now, we only know that the NBC service will start out with 15,000 hours of content at launch.
Dreamworks Animation TV currently has 800 hours.
If they get the Dick Wolf deal, thats 1,000 hours.
They have a lot of content to fill for the service so we are going have some major surprises.

For comparison:
Disney+ only according to some reviewers and press releases has 6,000 hours of content which people are already finding a lot. It helps they have nostalgia

HBO Max opens with 10,000. However whats the big issue that has arisen. Turns out they are only pulling some stuff from their other services (Not all anime from crunchyroll will be on HBO, not all DC universe shows will be on HBO Max such as Titans Season 3, and the service value is heavily dependent on the upcoming show lineup which certain HBO shows like His Dark Materials, Catherine the Great, and Watchmen have not been doing the numbers they were expected to do.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Future of the service...
If you remember live sports and news will be added to the service...MSNBC is the third most watched cable channel and sports are the reason people watch live television. If they can use the Peacock app, and see Sunday Night Football for free. The game is changed.

So you have three top networks on a service right. The rotating 2nd/3rd film studio films, and it turns out you don't have to pay for it because its free. That's a huge gamechanger. And before you say ads, Surveys have shown consumers don't mind ads, its the repetitious natures of ads that are the issues with some not relevant to their household.

This service on paper is a steal.

That's listing all content without providing which are really popular and appealing to the entertainment industry consumers. Not all people are generally interested in news or sports, certainly not all people are not really into solely police/crime drama and reality TV, and even not all studios have equal blockbusters like Disney and Warner Bros. are.

USA ain't no FX (things like AHS, ACS, Archer, Nip/tuck, Cake, Legion, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Atlanta, etc) and is certainly even way below AMC (things like the Walking Dead and its spinoffs, The Terror, Better Call Saul, etc). USA Network's only best show is Mr. Robot, which will have its final season this year. Every show on the network is basically reruns of Law and Order. At its best, USA really hasn't had compelling or appealing shows since the 2000s.

Most NBC shows nowadays are always comedy and not drama, thriller, and action. They have The Good Place (ending this year), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Superstore, which are both fantastic... but all of their other comedies are unwatchable.

Universal Pictures' only strength so far is relying on Blumhouse Productions and Focus Features. Jurassic Park franchise will end with Jurassic World III, where the rights to the film series will revert back to the Crichton Estate, and Fast and Furious might be fizzled out by the early 2020s especially after the death of Paul Walker years ago.

A streaming service needs to have the relevant appealing content and especially the originals in order to grab most of the audience. Just so far, NBCUniversal hasn't done that so far, and we haven't even gotten a good announcement we have from them so far, let alone a Peacock trailer, like Disney + and HBO Max have so far, and it comes out a month before HBO Max.

Comcast And NBCUniversal Set Date For Peacock Investor Presentation – Deadline

On January 16, executives will present details about Peacock, the NBCU service launching next April. The event will be held at the company’s longtime New York headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Aside from securing rights to The Office, emphasizing the role of advertising and noting the leverage afforded by the cable and satellite footprints of Comcast and Sky, the company has been fairly tight-lipped about Peacock. Earlier this fall, the company put longtime Comcast Cable executive Matt Strauss in charge of Peacock in part of a broader management reshuffle. Bonnie Hammer, the veteran cable exec who had been running Peacock, moved into a newly created content role at NBCU.

Disney really did a great job setting the precedent for these investor presentations.

They're equal parts financial talk and mass show-announcement. I tried watching the HBO Max presentation and I just couldn't. It was really made for investors, but there was enough announcements that Twitter could digest the full presentation.

Yes, the fact they are the last to go means they probably studied all three services presentation and will try to make the most entertaining performance. It also helps that a lot of the service details are still not revealed.

Not to mention they kind of are already pushing it. All the latest advertising for NBC includes an emphasis on the Peacock as the “boss” and icon of the company.

I know, but they have an actual live peacock in commercials now. I personally haven’t heard them even say the word in forever. It’s just sat in the corner of the screen.

I have a hard time not believing that the sudden increase in prominence of peacocks in their marketing has to do with the new service. They’re increasing the brand awareness before the official announcement.
