Disney and Universal don't seem to want anyone to have a way to get a truly discounted admission anymore. Convention and evening rates are a joke if they exist at all.
Not sure if it's still the same or not, but I think only a few years ago, you could get same-day tickets to Disneyland for $50 if you were a part of the CHOC Walk (5K walk through DLR).
EDIT: I didn't participate in the CHOC Walk, but my wife's coworker did in 2016 and was able to get us tickets to Disneyland for $50 per person on select days in November that year (event was held on 10/30/16) so it wasn't same-day tickets as the event. We ended up going in late November that year.
