This. Also I feel like we got a hint of that type with Scream 3 via the "Stab" set.

Oh god... don't let this be HHN's IP future

Chiming in--I think the problem with a definitive reboot is not that there isn't an avenue that you could go with it.

The problem is that there has *already* been a major and definitive reboot that was attempted in the 2010's. One that was negatively recieved and seen by that of fans and those familar with the franchise intently. It's much more limited due to the MTV series that I think you can't justify the potential of doing it again.

Which unfortunately makes the road to Scream's future broken due to the uncalled for firing of Melissa. An actress that is thankfully now starting to get work again and work with promiment talent.

My thoughts is that they should've let the franchise sit for a few years. Like how Scream 3-4 had the buffer gap (though more small of a gap). Then, you bring back Melissa, Jenna, Courtney and Neve for another duology film. The story of Sam and Tara ended at a good bit where you can let those three have time to breathe.

Scream is really a franchise that you can argue gets a reboot with each film. It’s a different killer in every movie, so I’m hesitant to call any one of the films in the franchise a reboot (like 2009/2010 Nightmare and Friday, or the new Child’s Play). No matter what direction it goes in, it always holds true to being a continuation of the story, sans the MTV series’ first two seasons.

Unpopular opinion, but I will forever say that Scream 4 is my favorite sequel.

scream 4 IS truly the best one. best cast. best plot. best structure. it really was the best of everything.
I really hated part 3 and some parts of 5.

Honestly, this franchise needs (and has needed) a total reboot. Set the story a couple decades after the original SCREAM (i.e. those events are known and happened), but move forward with entirely new characters... and probably an entirely new look for the killer. We have got to move beyond the Sidney Prescott mythos and all the characters connected to it.

This times 100% (but minus the new look for the killer, it's already perfect, it doesn't need to change outside of maybe some quirks).

How they've never been tempted to just use the Ghostface mask and set it worlds apart from Sidney is kinda baffling. Everyone loves Sidney but I feel like the franchise HAS enough juice that simply the name and Ghostface are enough of an IP magnet that you don't need actual legacy characters. Make the new characters good (the 'Core 4' is fine but could be so much better), the motivation interesting and you could get so wild with it because it's not connected to that Sidney world anymore.

there are so many copy cats and so many possibilities to put this franchise anywhere

put it in Europe, put it anywhere.

So... um. I've been purposely avoiding posting about this movie since I think it's going to be terrible amidst the decision to fire Melissa Barrera and just completely changing course since then but. I have to post about this. What a dumb decision lol. With every new casting announcement this movie reeks more and more of corporate desperation and trying to get the "fans" back. Good thing Scream 6 was amazing because for me, that's how this franchise ended. I might watch Scream 7 with a free ticket or something else but besides that I won't be supporting this movie. Oof.

There apparently seems to be a way on how Scott Foley's character is coming back as a result of Williamson's writing. I am not quite sure how to feel on Lillard, but I am hoping it's in part due to the script Kevin has and if it has a reason to exist.

Otherwise, a weird call.

I mean…they could be flashbacks or hallucinations.

Imagine if everyone reacted the same way knowing that Skeet Ulrich was returning for Scream 5.

Matthew Lillard is one of those actors I’ll watch in anything. He just has his one schtick he does, but it’s always entertaining and nobody else can do it but him. Low faith in this being good, but I’ll definitely check it out

IF this film is meant to be in continuity with the rest of the series, these castings are catastrophically stupid.

However, I've seen some speculation that...
... the film might be drawing from WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE, and be something incredibly meta.

If that were to be the case, I could be intrigued. I think the series needs a major change-up shot in the arm to break from the formula, and that would certainly be a way to do it.

Scream New Nightmare is a gag you can only do once and I would really prefer that they not blow it on the panicked fan-service sequel that they're only jury-rigging together after they shot themselves in the foot.

I've always enjoyed the idea of Scream in the style of New Nightmare.

But good lord man... literally the only reason to announce it is because they know it will get people to see it. I've wanted Stu to return but announcing it beforehand is so unbelievably stupid.
