Repairs update: I was able to get this great photo of the progress. As one can see, concrete is not down yet but they’ve laid the foundation, and it is MUCH flatter. Excavators still working on the other side but it looks like we should see concrete come down soon

In other news, the third terapusmordax that was missing in the caves for months has also returned. Pretty great!

Thanks for the update. Good news that they're actually making an effort to fix the outdoor section. In my opinion, that area traveled is essential to setting up/experiencing the attraction. I rarely rode Kong when they weren't running the outdoor segment, usually during storms or early morning low lines..

It appears they've kept a bit of a dip (seen closest to the beige tarp) so while it won't be as rocky as the original path it looks like we'll still have a tiny portion of the off-roading feel. I'm all for it if it means getting back the outdoor portion and it's gentler on the vehicles!

When do we think this work is likely to finish / be open?

well it’s taken them two months to do this work, i wouldn’t be surprised if it took another two months to finish it up, funnily enough that’s really close to when epic opens, right in line with what they probably wanted to do to have everything in shape for the grand opening

Some great news, Skull Island’s father, Mike West, will be doing a Q&A on Instagram tomorrow at 10 AM via Universal Creative’s Instagram. Great to see him back!!

Some more (kind of) new news from Skull Island:

B mode is no longer functioning like it should again. Sliding doors are permanently open, torches not on, which also means smell isn’t as crisp and the caves don’t go dark. Looks like this is a recurring problem

The outdoor section has received a significant amount of concrete though. RFID tags aren’t in place yet though, and it looks like the entrance into the gates hasn’t yet received new concrete just yet, but heavy equipment such as excavators are GONE, seems like it’s only a matter of time now

I’m here live from Skull Island with a big update:

Great news, they’ve laid the road down by the entrance to the caves, they have also laid down RFID tags for the truck. They are absolutely gigantic which is interesting to me, much bigger than the smaller tags that are on the rest of the attraction. Maybe they haven’t finished them yet but they are HUGE. Wish i could share a picture but the lighting or scrims wouldn’t allow me to.

B mode also works yet again

I wouldn’t be surprised if the outdoor road is ready to go at the end of the month

Thank you for the update. I love Kong. I'm disappointed with the loss of 3D, but I've always considered the outdoor section is the most crucial to enjoying the attraction. Hoping this is done when I vacation at the end of March.

The latest photo i was able to snag today. looks like they’re doing some landscaping around the road since the re-grading caused some abnormalities. any time now!!

How it felt riding Kong without glasses to protect my eyes:
Douse Good Day GIF by 1331Creative

Got hit square in the eyes in the Carnictis scene.

I haven't been on this ride since before the 3D was removed and got to do it this week so I can comment on it. The first scene seems better without it but the tunnel scenes could have used them. Creature attacks toward the vehicle weren't as effective without 3D and I did notice the edges of the screen towards the top more than before but the scenes were crisp.

The outdoor outdoor potion is still covered so you can't get a good look. Now that Pteranodon Flyers has reopened someone might be able to get a good photo.

I can’t imagine that this road will be closed much longer. I was there a week ago and they were just landscaping it. I’m hoping it will be ready to go this month, perhaps even next week since my last prediction failed miserably

The one thing I noticed is that you will really see the end of the screens following the 360 (or 180) view. Not sure if the projectors just don't hit that spot or not but they could use some more rockwork or something in that space. Maybe a section of greenery to convey that you are leaving that area.

Its always been a super weird, stagnant and unrealistic transition. Wish they could figure something out there.

My friends, the time has arrived. (almost)

I’m live here with Major breaking news from Skull Island

Crews have wrapped up their excavation and re paving of the outdoor road, and the tarp is DOWN!!!

Trucks are still not permitted to travel the outdoor path, likely because they have not had adequate time to test the path repeatedly

But it seems as if we could see the outdoor path fully operational within days

Why thank you!!! I get it from my dad, he’s been a journalist for 30+ years lol.

It’s been really fun. No attraction has captivated me like this one, and as someone who has never experienced this ride in its fully functioning state, the anticipation and documentation of repairs has been very exciting!!!!

Also, here’s the best photo i have been able to take today of the brand new Skull Island road through the netting.

As one can see, the RFID tags are back to being the old black ones, and they are spectacularly tiny, smaller than i thought. No track marks apparent so it seems they haven’t run the trucks yet.

What sticks out to me is the bumpiness. This is not as smooth as i thought it was going to be, which is great! It’s still pretty flat but i’m surprised at the fact they still kept some bumpiness
