Best of the MCU Spidey films, rather easily.

Defoe and Morina are excellent here. You realize how much they elevated the Raimi films.

Even with his limited time in the mask here, reaffirms my belief that Andrew Garfield was the best Spider-Man, just wasted in one mediocre and one god-awful movie.

There's probably a dozen plot holes you could fly a Quinn Jet thru, but the emotion carries you through the story so you don't ponder them until you're 5 minutes out of the theater. Ultimately it's very comic booky, and that's what this film needed to be. Will be at the top of a lot of 2021 "Best of" lists.

Can't agree with you there. Spidey should be a nerd, and Garfield was by a country mile the least nerdy IMO. I'm not saying he's a bad actor--he's not, in fact I think he would've been a very good Harry Osborne.

the way that Feige played that Venom card was hilarious. Like basically recognized he exists, but doesn’t want Hardy’s version in the MCU. That was a stroke of mastery with how he handled that.

So, I am going to post what is going to be a..surprising opinion.

I did not love this film. I thought the film was great, but the second act to me, might've gone too long for my liking. Doesn't detract how great the first and third acts are. Holland, Molina, and Willem (With Holland in particular) give their best MCU work yet.

> Now then, the big thing. The Multi-Quintet. My god they did amazing job doing the best they can to continue the continuity and care that each villain of their respective universe has. Even for villains like Electro, Lizard, and Goblin; they handle the transition of each of them giving such unique depth. Love, love, love what they did with Sandman and Doc Ock; continuing the narrative beats here in such a way that feels very much earned (Especially for the latter once he gets control). Really hope we see more of this Doc Ock in Spider-Verse, as that'd be a genuinely fun treat to see. This film also equally does amazing work, allowing genuine "closure" for Lizard, Electro, and Goblin. Curing them and being able to have them move forward. Outright impressed with the execution here, especially with Goblin/Osborn.
> The Spider-Men. The moment you have all three in the film at once, Andrew, Tobey, and Tom get to have the time of their lives. The chemistry of all three of them is absolutely amazing, and the way they allowed Tobey and Andrew to actually age, and give precedence to the time from their end-marks to now; is exceptional. Doubly so for Tobey, which they go into much more than I anticipated.
> That ending. This might be my favorite Spider-Man ending to date, and might be my favorite MCU ending to date. Because it finally does something I genuinely want them to do with Spider-Man and Peter. They let him grow up. They give the chance here and now, to move the character forward in the MCU without having to resort towards putting him into another universe. The doors opened by that ending, with MJ and Ned being able to live their lives without Peter, without Spider-Man in them; makes me incredibly happy to see the growth of responsibility that Peter has already had in this film. And I can't wait to see where they take things forward with Peter in the future.

And echoing @HalfGlass, the Symbiote play Kevin did might be the best play he has ever done for the MCU. Hardy exists, but it doesn't have to be MCU based to exist. Really interested to see how the Symbiote travels; and how long it'll be until we see the Symbiote once again. Feels like they could take things to a PS/Insomniac approach here; and I can't wait.

The problem is the pacing, as it feels like it needed to be trimmed down by around 5 minutes. Otherwise? Fantastic work. Definitely my favorite film of the phase, tied with Shang-Chi as of the moment.

Absolutely loved it. Definitely had a few flaws and some nitpicky moments - but otherwise a wonderful cinema-going experience. The best of the 3 MCU Spidey films.

8 or 9 out of Ten.

I think it has a little bit of pacing issues and some acting seems off but by far my favorite MCU Spiderman film

The good
Dare Devil...I was about to cry, my god YESSS!!!
Dr Strange is no longer the SS, very interesting
Some of the shots, like the one of Peter Swinging in the forest/electric lines during sunset were very nice to look at
All the fights were just so much fun, Doc Ock Vs Peter, Goblin vs Peter, and Strange vs Peter stand out as my three favorite
I liked how Doc Ock and Andrew's spiderman had moments they really needed
Aunt May Dying....wow they did it
Peter having to make the choice to become....no one and lose everything is such a perfect way to end this...and it literally is Sony listening to fans and being like...you dont want Ironman Jr? Fine he's poor and alone
I like how much time we got with the Villains, William and Alfred I think just killed it. William looked like he was having so much fun
And Venom.....well looks like they found a way to bring him to the MCU but not have to the crappy Venom/Eddie we have in the other films...thank you god

So I think while Eddie could come to the MCU the way they did it is open ended...could we get the MCU version of eddie in the next film? While I know many dont hate the new Venom films and they make money the movies arent up to most MCU films in terms of the writing and characters. So maybe for now its in the air how they want Venom and Spiderman to meet/which eddie to bring into the MCU

Also with No one knowing who Spiderman is and as much as I want sequels the spell allows this Spiderman also to just disappear if Tom doesn't sign up for more films. Very smart move on the MCU to kinda have out's if they dont have more Spiderman/Venom in their universe but if they come back then perfect

Obviously, the main source of fun in this movie is getting to see Tobey, Andrew and Tom all interact with each other. And yeah it was great seeing the old villains again, though to some extent they go from "bad" to "good" to "bad" again just a little too quickly in the second act.

Easily the best MCU Spidey movie.

Also @Jerroddragon : People still know of Spidey, they just don't know of Peter Parker.

Keep in mind that Venom recognizes Peter Parker in the post credits scene for Let There Be Carnage. The Venom symbiotes have a hivemind across universes, Venom tells Eddie, ”80,000,000,000 light years of hive knowledge across universes would explode your tiny little brain” so he could remember Peter from Raimi's Spider-Man 3, or other universes in which Spider-Man's identity has been revealed.

I loved all the subtle digs at the Garfield situation. Fox telling him he’s not important anymore. Then Toby coming in to remind him that he’s AMAZING. Making fun of Rhino - pointing to why he wasn’t included. This was def a love letter to spidey and his fans. I think they did a great job giving all three good arcs. Garfield saving MJ. Toby saving Goblin from being impaled again.

Sure but he can literally just disappear as a hero and nothing changes now...he has zero ties to the heroes

I doubt we wont get Tom back buttttttt like Venom , I think both are open ended enough and could go no where and it wont affect the overal MCU story

First of all, let me just say that it was great to finally feel like the movie going experience is back. There are few times I will state that peoples opinions are wrong, but if you think watching a movie like this movie at home is going to be better than watching in a sold out theater, you are just flat out wrong. That's the first time since Endgame i've been in a sold out theater and i've missed hearing live reactions instead of watching them on youtube. It's also impressive that the MCU was able to build up to a film of this magnitude so quickly (this only being the fifth MCU movie since Endgame).

Easily my favorite of the MCU Spider-Man movies and it may be the best Spider-Man movie of all-time period. Spider-Man 2 is the only thing that gives it competition. There's definitely questions I have - and that is the risk you take when diving into multiversal stuff - but this was an insanely fun movie. Quite emotional at plenty of parts as well.

I'm tempted to just wait until after I see the movie again tomorrow before giving spoiler thoughts as my head is all over the place after that, but here are some thoughts for right now:

• Daredevil/Matt Murdock - LOVE seeing Charlie Cox back and can't wait to see what they do with him going forward.
• So Flash is going to become the MCU's Venom, right? There's a run in the comics where Flash Thompson is taken over by the symbiotes to become Venom and if both Tom Hardy's version and an MCU version are to exist, then he makes the most sense.
• What a freaking way to reveal the other Spider-Men. It fooled me even though it shouldn't have given they had just shown Tom on the roof and Andrew was in an alleyway.
• With all of the moving parts from different universes and characters, it could've easily felt like a mess, but Jon Watts killed it from a directorial standpoint and the writing was great for the older characters being brought to this different Universe. Carrying on their respective storylines made it feel extremely natural, along with how and when they used the other Spider-Men. They didn't over-use them and they made sure to make it clear that Tom was in charge by him calling himself "Peter #1"
• Andrew's Spider-Man is so great and imo he's always been the best Spider-Man. When he dove to save MJ that definitely had a lot of emotional weight behind it and Andrew really brought it in that scene.
• Tobey was solid for most of the movie, but really shined in that final fight just as Tom is about to put the hammer down on Green Goblin. He knows what it's like to do something that you'll live to regret and he was there to help his fellow Spider-Man from doing something similar. Great way to show what an older, wiser, Spider-Man would be like and how he was sort of like his Uncle Ben in that moment.
• Literally everyone that came back didn't skip a beat and in Defoe's or Molina's case, may have even gotten better. I watched the Tobey Trilogy and the Garfield movies just this week and you would think Defoe, who hasn't been in the suit in June of 2001, had been playing the character in different movies for the past 20 years.
• One thing I wish we got but didn't was Miles Morales. Of Course, I want Miles to stay in the MCU and not just be sent back to his own universe, so I guess it's for the best that we wait. Electro made reference to him. With Peter now living on his own and no one knowing who he is, the next Spidey installment is as good as ever to introduce him.
• ....If we don't get another MCU Spider-Man film though, this was as good of a place to leave it at as possible. At least there's a sense of closure now, unlike after FFH.

Molina is probably outside of Holland and Willem, the best actor in this. The way he conveyed Otto and the various personalities over the course of the film; as-well as making him feel completely be natural; is probably the biggest. Willem excells in what he does best for Norman, and Holland's breakdown over May's death is fantastic. But the most consistently high actor outside of those two, and outside of Andrew (Who worked his butt off) goes to Molina. Really hoping we see more of him sooner than later in other Marvel projects.

Meanwhile, to throw this out here: BO estimates are going -higher- than some previously thought; with estimates ranging around 230-250 million on the domestic level.



Additionally, Spider-Man 4 is now being confirmed to be in some form of development.
