To me, Mario (and its sub-series), Pokémon, Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Splatoon (in Japan) are the only Nintendo properties that have the popularity to justify a presence in Universal Parks within the foreseeable future.

Yeah, agreed. Metroid sales aren't light the world on fire, sadly.

Nintendo owns a part of the IP, no?

They do, but they are minority owners.

I mainly included it because everyone else does in these discussion, but technically Nintendo has nothing to do with the licensing agreement that brings Pokémon into the parks.

They do have a say. It’s equal ownership between them, Game Freak, and Creatures.

Star Fox is worth it because it's cute animal characters in space with a gameplay style that can easily translate into a theme park ride.

How do you translate Zelda into a ride? Star Fox is pretty cut and dry and could be a pretty easy crowd pleaser even if people aren't familiar with the IP walking in.

Somewhat, but it is limited. They have the right to get involved if they feel they need to, but they have generally remained hands-off in projects that don't pertain to the console video games.

It’s a Nintendo property in the sense that they own enough of it for it to always be exclusive to their video game console hardware. It’s basically theirs.

Millenium Falcon with more of a focus on shooting.

Outer space, space travel, and intergalactic wars just feel like timeless ideas though. Star Fox would be the face of it, but otherwise it could just be a universal approach to the concept that could be a home run as an attraction. The Star Fox nods would be a welcomed approach for fans of the IP to an attraction that could just appeal to anyone, even those unfamiliar with the IP as a whole.

I welcome the return of lands with more general themes (part of why I'm stoked for Tropical Americas), but who knows if Nintendo would go for it.

That said, what if they made a "sequel" Mario land themed to Mario Galaxy? Star Fox could be to that land what DK is to SNW.

I think the Mario brand is popular and expansive enough that it could certainly warrant more than one land (especially in a resort where Joanne's wizard boy has 3). And while I haven't seen the new movie, it seems like Rosalina really hit with young girls, so it would be cool to see her get a larger presence in a resort dominated by boy-skewing properties.

Star Fox is going through a really big push right now between the Mario Galaxy Movie and the new game, but remember that back in early 2023 when a number of big Zelda and Universal+Nintendo news stories came out around the same time, everyone was basically in agreement that Zelda felt like a lock for LC. Only a few years later, it's basically a different world now.

I'll really believe in more Nintendo when I see it. UDX has a lot on their plate, and nothing about the existing Nintendo offerings speak to me that they were especially easy or expedient to work with. UDX knows that Epic needs additions now, which is potentially a reason why we're seeing swift movement on a DU expansion first. They own that, and could probably bring a finished product to the table much more quickly than if they were to try and make Luigi's Mansion or a Mario Galaxy ride happen.

We were stunned. Our granddaughters, Nintendo fans for a long time, were not impressed with the Nintendo land or rides. They just shrugged when asked about how they liked the land layout, never bothering to do any exploring. They were both 'confused' about what to do on Mario Kart, and didn't even want a second ride. But I talked them into giving it a second chance in late afternoon when lightening somewhere around Orlando, shut down all but three rides, and the line was short. Second ride, they still didn't care for it and again they said it's too confusing. Yoshii, they disliked. We thought they'd want to spend a lot of time there, but we breezed through both rides during early opening and that second ride. So, bottom line, maybe 45 minutes in the land, counting ride time, total.

We actually like the rides and land better than they did. You just never know, I guess.
