I remember when I worked at Tomorrowland in MK, the Cast Members stuck working at Tomorrowland Speedway hated their jobs with a passion due to the gas fumes. It would often make them dizzy/light headed/high. The Speedway was the one ride no one wanted to work.

On a side note: During my recent visit to my cave in Camp Jurassic (the cave with all the water), I realized that it smelled like the E.T. queue. So if you miss the smell… there ya go!

It was my first job in Florida. It was hot, smelly, and uncomfortable. Gassing cars at 2am and then trying to get the smell of gasoline off you. And running for cover in thunderstorms (they used to wait until way too late to shut down). My co-workers were cool, and it least the outfit was a cotton jumpsuit. But when I left for monorails, I never looked back

Any ruckus on this or has it been pushed off by other rumors (Great Hall dining, Luigi's Mansion, RRR replacement, F&F etc)? There was a time when it seemed like this would have started construction this year.

I'm not sure there was ever a legitimate chance this started construction this year.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the timeline in my head from Alicia's rumors was that Lost Continent would sit for about a year, then go under the knife around the same time as Dinoland at the end of '24. Then Alicia indicated that Zelda was likely be postponed, presumably since it would now follow a spate of newly rumored attractions for USF and EU. After that, new rumors about Zelda did and have not really emerged.

I’m kinda at a point where until Epic opens all rumors are clean slate for now. Timelines and what gets started and when could all be up in the air for all we know, so I’m not going to bet on anything for a bit.

Sounds like, for the whole resort, they’re waiting to see how Epic does before they commit to large investments further. Fair enough. I’m more curious if they’ve nailed down a ride concept for Zelda.

If I were Universal the first thing to open post Epic would be something at USF or IoA assuming Epic is swamped.

I think the only reason IoA can get away with this is because the rest of the park is just so damn good aside from JPRA needing a good top to bottom refurb.

Since there appears to be no clear direction for Zelda, Universal probably puts a priority on Pokemon for USF with the Simpsons contract up in 2028. Maybe they can (fingers crossed) get it open earlier than 2030 (2028 would be great) if USF attendance craters due to EU.

IS LC always earmarked for Zelda or could another completely different IP replace it if they can't quite figure out Zelda?

At the very least, RRR should be gone by next year. An outdoor coaster with minimal theming isn't exactly a huge outlay or fiscal burden for them.

Once RRR comes down, they can put the pedal to the metal (no pun intended) on the F&F replacement. Unlike USH which ran into some problems due to it being a first of its kind coaster built on the hillside, USFs should go up in a much faster timeframe. Maybe they could do a Transformers 1 year style turnaround.

RRR and F&F (and Simpsons) are functional rides, whatever their problems. Lost Continent is essentially an entire shuttered land, one-seventh of a full-price park. It HAS to be the first priority. Whatever leeway Universal should have been allowed due to hurricane damage or whatever other unexpected circumstances might have hastened Poseidon's closure is well over. It's utterly unacceptable to not have significant work begin on the area as soon as possible.

I don't think it HAS to be the first priority (we all know how much work I think USF needs), but I also don't think it's good show at all for a land to be, essentially, a black hole (in terms of attractions) for what could turn out to be nearly a decade.

In hindsight, with the Zelda plans (seemingly?) pushed back indefinitely, I wish Universal had bitten the bullet and repaired whatever needed to be repaired in Poseidon's Fury, so the land at least had something substantial to offer.

I wonder if the costs were simply too much, but, in hindsight I also agree with your take. It’s insane a full land is shutdown minus its restaurant for essentially all of post covid, with nothing imminent to replace it. It’s the TL theatre all over again, but worse, this is a beautiful land with nice looking attractions and areas that are closed. It’s easy to bypass TL theatre, not this.

I think it’s clear that Epic is eating all the budget for this company between UOR and USH only currently having F&F coasters on the docket for next few years. It’s a larger problem. One of the minuses of such a major investment but, in 10 years we’ll all be happier.

Honestly, even with Poseidon and Sinbad closed, Lost Continent is visually stunning to walk through. They can keep throwing in random character meet and greets and most people won’t care or even notice until they are ready to build something new.

Wish the same could be said for the Toon Lagoon Theater.
