I visited Universal Orlando Resort just a few days ago and was fortunate to have several opportunities to speak with members of the creative team and staff. During our conversations, we discussed the future of Mythos, and they confirmed that it will remain. They also emphasized that submitting feedback for improvements is extremely important to them, and that guest opinions carry real influence not only in supporting their intentions, but also in helping make the experience better.

For example, I filed a request to fix the top layer of Volcano Bay waterfall and erupt effects that has been turned off for 2 years. Guess what, they actually listened and fixed it. And now both of effects has been fully functional.

And I also added tons and tons of more requests for improvement while I was talking with them a few days ago; they were typing and taking note of what I said.

Unlike Disney, Universal actually listens. So if you have ideas for improvements or frustration with their direction, don't just write here, write to them!

About the new expansion on the lost continent, I haven't heard about Pokémon or Zelda being utilize from them but few staff members mentioned about One Piece ip.

One Piece would actually be pretty shocking but I can see it fitting the park extremely well. If it is One Piece though the idea that the theme of this park overall is literature will NEVER go away anytime soon :lmao:

Actually one staff member mentioned about park’s theme is being around literature and this ip will be suitable for overall theme of IOA. While He slipped me:)

You know what, I like this idea. USJ is doing extremely great with collaboration rides and goods on anime and their profit indeed went up because of this. For US market this would be very fresh approach that give more distinctive and versatile option than Disney.

Also it would be more easier for universal to approach to toei animation since they already worked together lot before.

I’m not a personally anime fan but us one piece fan based are really huge than what you expect. Like maybe way more than wicked.

The literature theme of the park reminds me of the backstory of DinoRama at DAK....it's there but no one really pays attention to it besides theme park nerds like us...IMO

They also mentioned about this to me. Both works, if you go to the park information deck, they will also write your feedback for you as well!

One Piece is honestly such a perfect fit for IOA, I hadn’t even thought of that. I know many want or think it’s Pokémon, but I actually think One Piece lends itself far better to a theme park, and slots nicely into IOA’s existing ethos.

I have no clue what a One Piece is besides a swimsuit but (generally speaking now, this is not directed at you personally) it’s starting to get to a point where we’re gonna have to address the elephant in the room: this website is mostly used by people who are not in Wicked’s demographic, which is why some of y’all just don’t get it.

It’s totally fine to not be a fan of something, I get it, I’d guesstimate 70% of the IP’s Universal uses in its parks I couldn’t care less about, no hate generally just apathy, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not successful enough to earn a spot in some way/shape/form in the parks.

Yea . I mean I can say I love One Piece (and as previously mentioned love Pokemon and enjoyed at the very least part 1 of Wicked). But can only kinda scratch my head at what about One Piece lends itself more to a theme park than Pokemon . It actually has most of the same problems if I had to think about it, which is that there is no real stand out centralized location to use it’s literally a story where you move from location to location . Heck it even now has another problem pokemon has where there can be debate on which version of it to use between pulling from the anime , the manga or the live action netflix show. And while not to the same extent as pokemon there’s the matter of what characters do you include in the land or not do you go based off the live action or the anime/manga (and this is just talking about the straw hats here ).

As for Wicked I assume this is just about general talk of it in theme parks across all the threads here but yea it’s funny cause I would say its got an obvious location , obvious moments and experiences, and it’s obvious which characters you would include or not to satisfy the majority of its fans . Now should Universal do things based on what’s “obvious” or “easy” to do , probably not all the time . But when it may bring in an underrepresented demographic in your theme parks, you own the ip and it lends itself well to a theme park land/ride . yea of course .

Anyways I would be happy if all of these ended up in the parks in some way but count me still highly doubtful of One Piece getting anything at a US park anytime soon ( Besides fanfest stuff ) .

Yes, IU's demographic is about as far removed from the General Public demographic as is math probable, and that helps explain the often
diverse opinions here . That said, there's lots of good opinions expressed by forum members, but one needs to keep that demographic
disparity in mind.

Bit of a tangent here, but I've always been wary of anime in a theme park, even just HHN. But ... this weekend some sort of anime con in town. (December in Orlando was already weird, but this took it up a notch.) Grabbing breakfast in McDonalds, a random cosplayer eating his McMuffin got hit up by multiple people for selfies. At Target, other cosplayers were drawing a ton of attention from all the tweens and even younger kids. Throw in the fact my young nieces have seen K-Pop Demon Hunter roughly 1,274 times, and I'm starting to wonder if a major anime IP -- One Piece and K-Pop the two family-friendly ones I recognize as an outsider -- might be the next Hogsmeade. A new land that gets 6-hour lines, becomes the new trend for everyone to copy.

One Piece is a globally popular IP, and it has a long-standing history of collaboration with USJ, and it was a big hit at USH's Fan Fest Nights. I do think it could have a larger presence in the parks someday, but I do not suspect anything major is planned in the immediate future. Something smaller like merchandise or a meet & greet might be more plausible in the next few years.

I really hope they just fix the issues with Lost Continent (without retheming it!)
However, if they do retheme it, it should be an original area instead of one based on an IP

Yeah, even early stage Epic Universe concept art has one piece meet and greet! I believe they are in works and something will come in the future

Another Elephant in the room is that “boy centric IP” seems to have a far higher potential for crossover appeal. I’ve been on the internet long enough to see all the Women that want to be included in the fanbase of various IP that are considered “for boys” (which I fully encourage btw as long as the IP doesn’t fundamentally change from what made it popular in the first place). I barely ever see Men wanting to be included in “girl centric IP” to the same degree except for that whole My Little Pony thing from years ago :confounded:

This is not an argument against Wicked btw. Universal is more than likely going to do it and I’m fine with that. I’m merely pointing out why Universal is pretty much all “boy IP” when it comes to their major lands. I’m also using quotes because pretty much all my life I’ve seen a mix of fans in all of these fanbases so saying something like Harry Potter or Nintendo is “for boys” is a bit silly even if they do skew more in that direction.

There’s a lot I’m not gonna go into because it will offend some members here but I will say, speaking on theme parks only, unfortunately the “crossover appeal” could very well be because there’s simply not been enough options made available. As companies realize with the success of more feminine stories that there’s actually an untapped market that just Disney & Mattel had an edge on—the Disney Princesses & Barbie are some of the highest grossing IP’s of all time, since that was a discussion previously—we will hopefully see more representation of different stories that appeal to more than just one type of person in the parks.

Hello Kitty is up there as well but is really only popular as a merchandise machine from the breakdowns I’ve seen and it has its store. Other than Wicked because Universal already owns that we have Barbie which you mentioned. What else is there to use?

I’m asking honestly not sarcastically.

I kinda already answered it, but, again it really goes back to there not being enough options available. The reasons as to why historically there’s been an abundance of male centered stories at the forefront of pop culture goes into a bigger conversation that deals with a lot more than, imo, is appropriate for what’s replacing a theme park land thread on a theme park forum.

I’m just saying that Wicked taps into an underserved demographic that has so far only been tapped into by Disney (and, if the rumors are true re: Taylor Swift then Universal’s gonna really have to start considering these things) and I don’t think it’s inclusion should be written off so quickly.
