This is the thing. Everyone asking for a Jaws return realizes it’s most likely screens, right?

My guess is that if we ever got a Jaws ride again, it'd be similar in layout to Kong.
I don't mean the ride vehicle or system, but just the idea of "screen screen screen.. impressive animatronic at the end"

I think (hope) Universal would know they shouldn't even bother with JAWS under those conditions.

Do it right*, or don't do it.

* Doing it right doesn't inherently have to involve a boat on water, either, as we've outlined with the sub idea. But it certainly would have to involve physical sharks and sets throughout.

Agree but you'd think that they would've thought similarily with Fast and Furious in that it should've also met the obvious criteria to be actually " fast and furious "or otherwise don't bother and yet...we had Supercharged lol...but at least they're course correcting finally now...

Unclear if this is just for Hollywood, but... well, hopefully it's just for Hollywood.

I think we're looking at 2030 for the removal of Springfield/Simpsons on both coasts. At the earliest.

Next year we have The Simpsons Movie 2 and 2029 is the 40th anniversary of the property. Disney doesn't have to do anything major for these milestones when Universal already has The Simpsons. Disney is just cashing a check every time a guest purchases food, beverages, and merchandise at a Universal park. I also don't see Universal passing up the opportunity to capitalize off of these milestones.

I don't think the property fits into what Disney envisions their parks to be and already are, so any integration of The Simpsons in their parks seems very unlikely.

This is something I feel is under discussed. The Simpsons stands out more than any other acquired property over the years as oil and water to Disneys brand. They’re sardonic when Disneys theme park brand is hyper genuine. While Universal has made moves towards a less sarcastic theme park environment with Epic, it still firmly has its tongue planted into its theme park cheek that works better with Groening’s properties.

If this land is still hanging on in four years, I'm going to be very depressed.

This is basically it. If it were possible to close the ride and replace it with a new good Simpsons ride, I'd be completely fine with Springfield sticking around for a long time.

Same. And I don’t mind the ride. But I love the land. It fits nicely.

Yeah, exactly. I enjoy the ride film enough that I’d ride it more often if it was simply attached to a great simulator. I understand that wouldn’t be the big overhaul many want, but if they went more small ball on this and did bigger projects elsewhere… I wouldn’t complain.

I feel Simpsons is not long for this world and its replacement is being worked on as we speak.

They’ve milked this cow long enough.

Do you think maybe Hollywoods Simpsons land could get extended but Orlando's goes away?

With only Hollywood getting the Tree House food updates, feels like maybe they can do different things

With the stacked lineup WDW is getting, those Universal execs likely know people who hit up WDW that tack on Universal will just do IOA for Pokemon and Epic because its still the shiny new object and is getting expansions for both Monsters and Potter, but will pass on USF if all it has is Hollywood Drift and a reskinned Supercharged. Green lighting not just a Simpsons replacement, but an entire new immersive new land to take over that entire back corner of the park (Wicked perhaps) will do wonders for USF and show UDX is taking what Disney has on tap seriously

Doubt it. Not a legal expert but i'm pretty sure both locations are tied in that both would have to close. This whole thing with HHN is probably a last hurrah type thing to milk every last penny from food and merch Simpsons offers before the contract lapses.

Honest question: Is there a reason why Disney can't just renew their contract with Universal?

Thay may sound like a dumb question but think about it: If Disney doesn't have the opportunity to make any direct profit from the Simpsons at their theme parks, why not just let Universal keep it and continue to make some already existing profit from the percentage Universal is giving Disney. It's free money for Disney.

If Disney just cuts it off, there goes that free money from Universal. I'm not legal or financial expert here, but unless Disney has plans to introduce their IP into the theme parks, why not let Universal keep it around a little longer?

Of course I could be wrong and Disney might be like "Nah 2028 is it. Gimmie dat."

Why would Uni want their competition taking a portion of their profits?

They could leverage some of the in house IP they haven’t used to build a new area at USF.

I think it's more of a case of Universal not wanting to prolong the life of the underlying ride system which is in pretty bad shape. Plus Simpsons at both USH and USF seems to be spot for the next big things at those parks.

Where would this "elsewhere" be?

This and Supercharged are the only realistic spots in the park for "bigger" projects, and it sure doesn't sound like Supercharged is getting something big.

The new movie will be a marker for how much juice in left in the tank for the Simpsons IP on a mass-market scale. I don't personally believe many people are drawn into buying a ticket for Simpsons attractions in 2027 and beyond.

... But, maybe that doesn't matter too much. They've got Potter, Pokemon, Nintendo, or whatever new coaster they just built to draw people in, and if Duff and FFB sales are chugging along fine amongst them, and Disney has no immediate plans with the IP, it's a (personally worrying) possibility that this massive plot goes untapped for a good while longer while UDX focuses on Epic and UUK.

I’d argue they became less sarcastic since 1999, I don’t remember IOA being less sincere.
