The new movie will be a marker for how much juice in left in the tank for the Simpsons IP on a mass-market scale. I don't personally believe many people are drawn into buying a ticket for Simpsons attractions in 2027 and beyond.

... But, maybe that doesn't matter too much. They've got Potter, Pokemon, Nintendo, or whatever new coaster they just built to draw people in, and if Duff and FFB sales are chugging along fine amongst them, and Disney has no immediate plans with the IP, it's a (personally worrying) possibility that this massive plot goes untapped for a good while longer while UDX focuses on Epic and UUK.

Hopefully after EU gets those expansions it should be set for a bit and they can spend some more time on USF. Fingers crossed.

I’d argue they became less sarcastic since 1999, I don’t remember IOA being less sincere.

Shrek, Jim Carrey Grinch, Bay Transformers, Minions, Jurassic, Nicktoons and Spongebob, even Marvel to an extent. UDX has built their brand off irreverence, quips, edginess, satire, and for lack of a better term, "older brother energy". It was purposeful to distinguish themselves from the highly sanitized and ultra-friendly competition.

I’d say Alien and Predator have Simpsons beat in that regard. Also Family Guy.

Of the things Disney has tried to actively integrate into the "Disney family", as it were, I'd say Simpsons is the highest. It is really just it, Deadpool, and Avatar that they've brought in like that. They seem content to keep everything else over with Hulu and 21st Century.

Why would Uni want their competition taking a portion of their profits?

They could leverage some of the in house IP they haven’t used to build a new area at USF.

Okay, let's wake this up.

What in house IP is left for Universal?

Mama Mia?

Ted?

The Odyssey?

Jaws 2?

BTTF nachos being reheated?

Would any of these make more money than Simpsons is doing right now?

Okay, if Ted had a dispensary that could put it over Simpsons. Only then.

I’m just saying Uni would be foolish to let Disney get any money out of them.

They're already foolish for keeping Marvel by that standard.

Agreed. Outside of Wicked, their most popular, unused IP's would be vintage properties (Jaws, BTTF).

If the argument is that there aren't any "good" IPs left (which I don't believe), that would apply beyond just this location, and would imply a pretty grim future for the park.

Regardless, this land needs to go.

There are a number of IPs that could actually work in the parks. They just wouldn’t really be big draws without being exceptional attractions.

Casper, Pitch Perfect, Tremors, Flash Gordon, and Dragonheart (let alone Wicked, Paddington and the rest of the DreamWorks/Illumination animation catalogs) have the potential to bring a lot to the park. They just have to be GOOD.

No offense but I highly doubt any of them sans Wicked and some Dreamworks stuff will ever be at the Universal parks in a major way.

Wicked seems to be what my mind is defaulting to for the eventual Simpsons replacement, but for a while I did contemplate Universal possibly wanting to give Shrek an expanded presence if 5 successfully revives the IP, and expanding into Springfield could have been one of them, but the more realistic approach could simply be a DreamWorks land phase 2 taking over AA.

A bit ago Universal did say more Illumination and DW stuff was in development for under consideration for the parks. Another possibility is the spun off NBCU could also be acquired or acquire another company to boost their in-house IP. Universal might need it if they don't want to constantly license out IP for the parks.
