The Future of Wet 'n Wild

There's a large amount of people who just happen to go to Wet N Wild because it's visible and on I-Drive. Is it safe to assume those visitors would go to Volcano Bay instead of something like Aquatica? I don't think so.

I honestly don't think they want the people going to WNW going to Volcano Bay

They aren't closing it for another 18 months. There is plenty of time for a send off ceremony.

Out with the old and in with the new. This has been Universal's mantra for a while now.

I'm not surprised, but sad that it's the end of something that was a staple when I was growing up and visiting the area. 40 years of history.

Disney keeps 2 parks open, Uni could have done it too.

They are not re-branding it, it's closing. I wouldn't get your hopes up that it's going to stay in any way, shape, or form, if I were you.

Being that the volcano will most likely be visible from I-Drive, I think it's safe to assume that it will spark people's interest and pull them into VB.

I do think WNW is a major part in International Drive's history, but it is definitely dated now and it's time for something new. I'm not so excited about building another resort and more shopping on that space. To me is more of the same old but I bet there's a strong business reason for it, but it's location can be easily connected with rail/mono to the UOR Main Parking lot, so it could've being a bigger attraction with easy access to the rest of UOR.

LOL Good old Castle Grayskull. I got to do it 3 times, still love the Queen Alien part.

VB is a done deal. The concern is a piece of land very strategically located to the heart of UOR. Major attractions should be a one stop deal to a resort like this, Hotel guest can be easily transported from a satellite location.

re: WnW plot: I'm going with Hard Rock Casino Orlando! Maybe like this one.

I have often wondered how the Hard Rock Theme Park that failed in MB would have done if had been part of the Hard Rock Hotel at Uni or one of the Casinos in Fl. I would have loved to ride a Zepplin themed B&M with a custom mixed on board song. It existed for one year at the start of the Great Recession. The music theme park would have complimented movie and tv based parks nicely.

I wonder if Fun Spot dusts off it's little water park plans it had about the same time they announced the two new coasters? They bought that piece of land across the street after they decided against the water park addition. Was to go where the gator attraction is now.

Different scenario. Universal bought WnW and kept it as a non-Universal type of property without anything in the way of theming or synergy with the rest of the resort. Universal is trying to become the #1 destination for theme park technology and design, WnW doesn't fit.

I4 is a fairly busy road too, that should pull a few in too :thumbsup:

Well, compared to every other Waterpark, WNW did have some really cool themed slides. Where else could you find rides like the Black Hole the Next Generation, Disco H2O, or Brain Wash?
Those are three rides I truly hope they save to use at Volcano Bay.

Aside from that, the park was pretty average.

Can't say I'm sad to see it go, but the history buff in me is a little disappointed to see the first ever water park disappear so unceremoniously.

How do you know it will be closed without a ceremony?

Why does everyone keep calling Wet and Wild the first water park. River Country opened before it and it seems like I've always heard River Country referred to as the first water park.
