One can dream. Was a silly idea anyway and wildly impractical and expensive.

NP. BTW, no idea is silly. I toss what-if drawings on here all the time. And never forget, Spider Man the ride was a silly idea at one time. Plus, a silly idea can trick others into thinking differently and declare "not that, but if we did this instead" and the fire is lit.

I don't have a problem using the space for hotels, other than it's an ugly area of I-Drive. Nothing else of substance was ever going to go there. As for theme, they gotta go with the Silverscreen Resort

I agree and hope there is a bigger plan. The land around W+W can't be that expensive but at this point it could be. It is possible that Universal had the forethought to buy some options on buying land around W+W before they actually did buy W+W. Unless I'm way off that would give them a clearer path to the their new 450 acre land purchase. I don't see the point if buses are going to be the main transport. W+W is on a busy street and buses would just make that worse.

This is getting interesting and according to what I have heard it won't be till 2017 until all Hell breaks loose as far as Universals grand design.

In case you haven't heard yet, Wet 'n Wild is having $19.77 admission this Sunday (3/13), for its 39th birthday! :)

That's actually quite sad that it won't make it to its 40th birthday.

Just like the famous comedian Jack Benny. He joked he was 39 until he passed away at a fairly old age.

Seeing as how Volcano Bay probably won't be open until late spring 2017, I kind of think they should keep Wet N Wild operating until spring break 2017,

That would be nice. :)

However, from a financial standpoint, maybe it wouldn't make that much sense because WnW has low attendance during January, February, and the beginning of March. It seems that they are closed a lot of days, too, in those months, due to "inclement weather" and low attendance. So it seems that UOR is okay with not having a water park open during those few months.

That replacement can wait an extra 4 months. Especially considering all the other projects they're working on that need to be finished first.

Why? So a doomed park can celebrate a meaningless milestone?

I'd much rather have them prepping the site for what comes next.

Not to mention the 4 slowest months. If I was them, I would close it December 1st or November 1st. No need to keep it open for such a slow period of time.

That's my thoughts as well. I'd like to see a big celebration for the 40th birthday of Wet n Wild with a preview of Volcano Bay but it's going to be quite miserable when the last few months of it's life are going to be dead in the park.

Yeah, I agree. Though they're open during that time, I would imagine actual profit margins are low or non existent, due to weather closures and poor attendance from weather not ideal for water parks.

No...so a waterpark junkie like me can actually enjoy the waterpark in the offseason one last time lol. I go year round and love going in February and march when it's slower. I know, it's me being selfish, but I could dont give a care about additional resorts. I find the removal of a historic waterpark for hotels to be a lame move. I'm very excited for VolcanoBay though.

Also, more resorts means more crowds and more crowds equals many increases in prices...and less enjoyment for a longtime pass holder like me.

They also equal more rides and more money for upgrades and additions.

We wouldn't be getting the apparent 3rd park we're getting without how successful the on-site hotels have become.

It won't last forever. Eventually Universal will become just like Disney where they'll take 7 years to add attractions. They'll just let the money come rolling in. I'm hoping this doesn't happen for a very long time, but we'll see when Comcast thinks they've spent enough.

Okay? I'm not worried about that. I'm enjoying the ride as far as it takes me.

Sadly, the time of a slow down may be sooner than any of us hoped for. The Brazilian economy is a mess, so that market is dying off (sucks to be Disney who spent all that money on Disney Springs to try and make those extra Brazilian bucks). That will have some impact on the tourist market (and possibly the entire world economy).

Back to the topic at hand though, shutting down WnW at the end of the year just makes sense. The waterparks all end up closing for about 1/3 of January/February due to weather. The days when they are open often the staff out numbers the guests. Couple that with the fact that they will probably need the parking lot for staging materials and or workers to finish the project. There will be so much going on from January-March while Volcano Bay comes together, having WnW gone will just make things easier.

You're probably right about Brazil. But the bean counters should have known that beforehand with DS, and shame on them if they didn't. That's the sordid history of the Brazilian economy. It's Boom or Bust, very rarely anything but.
