I think Book of Boba Fett is most likely a miniseries that they want to run parallel to mando s3, or its a subtitle for season 3.
I really don't see them just turning the whole thing into The Boba Fett Show, unless theyre trying to shake things up for a season to avoid fatigue with the Din and Grogu stuff.

If it is a subtitle focused more on Boba, I'll be disappointed, but would be put at a bit more ease if Disney would just clarify the situation. Maybe they are going to use Season 3 to let Grogu train and then in Season 4 it'll be Mando and Grogu again (with a possible time jump)?

No kidding! I just fielded a phone call from my mother asking me what the end scene means ("Is it a separate show, the same show, or something else?"). I regretfully had to report that I have no idea yet.

I'm actually on the side that The Mandalorian is three books, with each book starring one major Mandalorian. And in the process, it acts as the "Central Hub" for a shared Televised universe with Star Wars. And each book, is a two-season endeavor that ties the central hub of the incoming New Mandalore War.

I think a key aspect of Book II, if it is The Book of Boba Fett, is that it'll focus on the rebuilding of the Hutt clan to now become the Fett clan. And in the process, he gets word of the efforts in Mandalore progressing and in the process; decides to capitalize on the potential. Have Din, Bo, and Boba all be the main protagonists; with Grogu, Fennec, and Koska acting as the major supporting characters. Eventually, after Book III; you could then have everything tie together in an Event like Limited Series, similar to The Defenders: focusing on the New Mandalore War. Gives a bit of time for Grogu to develop a bit behind the scenes, and would allow Boba to shine as a focal character.

Could I be wrong? Absolutely! But I'm actually beginning to wonder if that's their path going forward. The only project that *wouldn't* fit into this properly, is The Acolyte. Because that'll start it's own Televised universe, and won't have any implications with The New Mandalore War window.

That could make sense too. I do think there's a fascinating ground that could be made with The Mandalorian to where it doesn't focus on just one Mandalorian. If it's going to culminate with the New Mandalore War; then it makes absolute sense that Din, Bo, or Boba would not be the exclusive protagonist.

Honestly, I'd be kind of down for that if I'm completely honest.

And if I've learned anything from this season of The Mandalorian, nothing is off the table and we can theorize for weeks on what something could mean, but sometimes the answer is the most obvious one.

If I had told you guys at the end of last season that Cobb Vanth, Bo-Katan and her crew, Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett (and a back from the dead Fennec) and - oh yeah - Luke Skywalker and R2D2 were all going to be in this season and play integral roles, you'd have laughed in my face and mockingly asked when my fan-fic would be ready for you to read. But here we are.

All I know is we're likely headed to the Second Siege of Mandalore one way or another.

Alright, the more I sit on it, the more i'm ready to call it. The Book of Boba IS NOT The Mandalorian. I think, much like had been rumored, this will be a limited series that has already begun filming BEFORE Mando S3. Like had also been rumored, Mando S3 has to wait for Boba to finish so they can use The Volume though, so they can't crank both out too quickly.

That alone wouldn't be enough for me to say i'm pretty confident it's different shows. What started to steer me in a different direction was when @belloq87 mentioned how careful Kathleen Kennedy was with her wording in terms of saying we'll get the next "chapter" in December 2021. The more I sat on that, the more it just made sense. She was careful with the wording because there WON'T be a Mando S3 in 2021 (although it is possible Din shows up in Boba's show), but much like Rangers and Ahsoka, the events of Boba will affect what happens in the other shows.

I think we don't get Mando Season 3 until Early 2022 (at the absolute earliest). But idk, maybe i'm way off.

Tbh, i'm surprised it's going to take until December for Boba. I'd think that show could be ready by around Late October like Mando Season 2, if not earlier when you consider the rumor that filming had begun in November (Of course, that could've just been the post-credit scene? Maybe they've just got it slated for December because Disney+'s schedule is becoming jam-packed and open release timelines are going to be harder to come by going forward.

You also talk about "Star Wars fans" as if I am not one. Quite the contrary. I have the Falcon's dice hanging from my car mirror. I went to Savi's for my birthday this year. I got married on May the 4th. I just want Star Wars to do great things, not the boring/obvious choices it's fallen into. Mando S1 felt like what I was looking for in Star Wars moving forward. New characters and stories free from the Skywalker saga. Yes, it could wink and nod here and there to them, but that's fine. S2 just threw itself MCU style into crossovers, and I found that to be distracting and disappointing.

As for your Nintendo analogies, I actually quite enjoy POKEMON LET'S GO and NEW SUPER MARIO BROS.


I'm not "upset" about anything. I just didn't like it. That's the difference between the level of fan I am and the one's I'm talking about. I didn't love a lot of this season, or where they're clearly taking the franchise. But whatever. I'm not gonna send death threats to Dave Filoni or try and run this episode's guest star's body double off instagram. Just gonna be slightly bummed that we're going to LCD moving forward.

The Marvel comparison is bad. That's a universe defined by its crossovers and it's adaptions. SW can be anything, but they've reverted to trotting out the same tired old ponies rather than letting it grow.

I do hate the way people approach the show on social media. A couple of times this season I woke up and wasn’t conscious of the fact that an episode dropped while I was sleeping. I went on Twitter and got spoiled in 2 seconds just by seeing the trending page. And people treat it as if it’s your fault that you were sleeping when it dropped and its your fault for reading the spoiler they put out there.

I hope they change course for not only this but also the MCU shows and start releasing them at something like 9p EST/6p PST so everyone can watch it at once.

If I had to guess, because this is Disney and it has multiple interests at play, they wouldn’t want it competing with whatever ABC/ESPN/Freeform/etc. is doing on that night. And bigger picture, primetime Mando/MCU could get in the way of the box office performance of their countless theatrical releases once we get back into somewhat regular movie going trends. Also I’m pretty sure they like the fact that it’s instantly a top trend when people wake up.

After that, it was free marketing for the show every week from the people who watched it (some watching it multiple times) overnight. All-in-all, Disney did insanely little actual paid advertising for The Mandalorian. It was just one of those shows that everyone was talking about, which stems from the weekly release format. Amazon is trying to do a version of that now where they release the first 3 episodes and then weekly. They did it with The boys Season 2 and they're doing it with the new season of The Expanse now as well.

So as much as the relase time annoys me, especially living on the east coast, I can't knock them when it seems to be working so well and probably will continue to with the Marvel shows. I think the reason spoilers get so bad so quick is because people are mostly watching this by themselves when they are watching it as soon as it releases and want to talk about the episode afterwards. Like, I had so many thoughts after the episode the other night and in hindsight, I really wish that was something I could've experienced in theaters with an opening day type audience. Obviously we can't do that right now, but those are the moments I live for in theaters are the big reveals where the crowd collectively goes wild. I’m with you on the importance of the theatrical experience. I’m excited to see WW84 at an AMC Dolby, I hope it feels a little like normal. People will go on social media and talk about stuff like the MCU movies during opening weekend but it’s not nearly as bad when it comes to big streaming releases and I think your point about wanting to talk about it with someone makes a lot of sense. Because usually when we go to the big movies in groups of friends and its easy to discuss the story after.

There’s also the factor of how easy it is for people to grab high res images and video from the episode and post it. The amount of important screen grabs that people - and even media outlets - share around within hours of the release is insane.
