What I would like to know, why did they take out that mist effect that made it look like you were being directly attacked by a dementor. That was such an amazing effect, and I was heartbroken the last time when it was no longer there.

They didn't take it out. It was probably just inoperable the day you were there

The dementor scene is literally the only scene that nearly gives me a heartattack.

I was told by several sources the effect was scrapped and turned off due to it being to intense and WB's not approving.

Correct. The effect was originally on during the early days of the ride. The reception was considered too frightening, so it was cut.

The ride has gone through many changes. The reason above is also part of the reason the soul suck dementor no longer has skeleton hands. Also too scary (among some other reasons). The ride motion was also changed at one point to help cut down on people throwing up. In the willow scene, the willow used to whomp a lot harder but it technically entered the ride track. According to an employee I talked to one day, this was okay until one day where the willow didn't whomp back and gave up and the ride was down all day because it was stuck in the track envelope. They most recently changed the floo network supposedly to try and help out with people getting motion sick from being turned and twisted through chimneys.

lol it's a little of both, I hate being caught off guard and scared like that but it adds more to the ride as well so it's intended as a good thing too

Thanks for the great info! I got on the ride 3 months after opening, would that be considered "early days of the ride"? I ask because I thought I always remembered a more full scene. Might be imagining. I certainly remember the willow being more active.

All of this is very interesting, and it is too bad that they tamed down the ride, both in motion and in effects.

That seems likely, but the insiders will have to confirm it until I can believe it.

it didnt confirm it..just like on here we cant always confirm everything. The queue for the Hogwarts Express sounds awesome if it turns out to be true.

It certainly seems to jive with what I remember reading here from HatetoFly (or maybe Disneyhead?) about the queue. I believe he said that once you get on the train and look out the 'windows', you'd see that the queue was filled with Hogwarts students getting ready to board. This new film they are creating could very well be for that.

I was one of the lucky few to ride FJ before it opened and I remember more Dementors. This makes sense...

I remember the ride jerking us around a bit more too. While I still found it fun, I'm guessing quite a bit of the general public found it too intense.

I also took it for a spin before it opened but the scene were referring to was never seen by anyone outside of Universal Creative and Warner Brothers apparently.

Yeah the first ride it got me good...I like that though, Dementors are scary in the books and movies so it is fitting...I would love to see the other Dementor effect on though, it sounds awesome

I'm gonna be honest, I thought the dementors were going to be really scary, but after finally riding on my last trip I thought the spider in the Forbidden Forrest was scarier than the dementor.

Well it opened in mid June and I was on it in early May and never saw the extra Dementors.

Having ridden it twice myself with a considerable gap between two visits (about a year or so), I can admit that I didn't notice much difference in the ride itself, though both times the Dementor 'soul sucking' effect didn't work, but everything else did. Personally, I like it when rides like that are intense, but I can understand why they toned it down for the general public to cut back on their projectile vomit quota. Should do like Disney did for Mission: Space and have a softer version for the wimps, and a more intense version for the real men and women. ;)

I know you weren't serious. But my brain hurts from thinking about the technical hurdles of getting that to actually work.

Has anyone on here seen the color palette elevations for Hogsmeade or Hogwarts? I have seen a lot of stuff, but not that... and that would send me over the top. Has anyone seen anyone even handling the color elevations on site?
