Neither is a park based solely on video games, but people won't let that **** go.

Imagining a park with a lot of unique rides and on a small footprint and Sci fi/Horror world would come to mind.
Take the poler-coaster, a nice elevator ride, observatory, shops. restaurants and a coaster on a small plot of land. Incorporate franchises like Aliens, Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the Third Kinds, etc and the horror stable they got and mix them in a park that is half a sci fi city and half a horror setting. I would love to see some crazy concepts like Vekoma's Pandora's Box come to life.

I don't understand how that wouldnt be a worthy Idea. Kids are hooked on video games and they are only growing more popular. With IP's like WOW, call of duty, assassins creed and halo, maybe some new concepts they can team up with activision, bungie, microsoft etc. who have a proven record to be able to create engaging stories AND give them the incentive to create TV shows, more games and movies.

The most you'll ever see from video games is if someone managed to get Nintendo to sign off on an attraction or two for an existing park. A video game park would be financial suicide.

None of them are a theme park, and most attendees to those are there to see new games and to see game competitions, not to ride rides. A theme park and a convention are two very different things.

I agree completely only Joyland is a theme park. I was just saying the gamer crowd is definitely more than willing to travel if their interest is piqued.

And even the idea of a Nintendo land is fading as time goes on. At least in the states. The industry is too niche and too fluid to make such a substantial investment in.

The games themselves have been updated. The attractions are what have remained stagnant.

Speaking of Disney Quest, I've actually never been. Is it kept up-to-date at all? Or is it the same games from the 90's?

It is kind of a weird environment, and seems dingy at this point (not like an old arcade dingy which would be good). A good majority of the games have been updated, some for the better some for the worse. I didn't see the elevator show any of the 3 times we went this year. The attractions have not aged gracefully at all, even the Pirates ride, which is by far the best one they have, seems incredibly dated. The attractions that were acceptable but barely worked then are still exactly the same. The 3d headgear is still incredibly heavy and not well fitted. Some of the CMs really care but some of them really don't and there aren't a lot around. The lack of CMs allow for the games to be taken over by people that don't have any manners, which results in upset children and families.

One time I almost saw a fist fight break out between 2 fathers because one kid wouldn't give up the game so the father went around the back and unplugged the game, which caused the father of the kid playing to become rather displeased. Luckily, the wives of both men broke it up before it escalated any faster but not a single CM got involved because there weren't any around.

I still like it but definitely not as much as I did back in 99 when I first went and vowed I would be there all the time.

it seems that at one point in time it was cool now it begs for some much needed love and attention - sorry just had to chime in on the DQ topic back to video game theme parks and why they wouldnt work lol i have to agree with jungleskip while i thought it was a great idea at first it just wouldnt be great in the long run. The most family friendly games come from nintendo and sega they are both on a downward spiral all the true popular games are not made for daily themepark audiences. While you see universal using video games more and more for its HHN event that is because it targets the right crowd and it can afford to use those IP's for those certain events that run for short time trials not year round all day long. i honestly would not like walking through a Super Mario world or a "toony" world like that... although i could picture that in a small section of the park (toon lagoon)
