Unless something is different about how this is going though planning, wouldn't we not expect to see planning applications prior to any works happening?

They legally own the land so it might just be a health and safety issue having random vloggers going there doing the generic “im standing in what could be universal Great Britain” thing. Someone falls into the lake or trips on a brick and make it Comcast’s problem.

The problem is there's a public footpath that cuts right through that parcel. So until that footpath is rerouted they can fence it up all they want to keep out the 'vloggers' but it won't do anything. Also, they didn't even fence the parcel when they dug the trenches, not sure why they'd fence it up if it's just to keep people out because of health and safety.

No, this feels like they're readying to begin whatever works they can do before planning permission is admitted and then granted.

I don’t believe the fence is up around the section of the site with the public foot path. The fence is up around their future staging lot, likely to help prevent people from stealing or trespassing where they will have materials stored and heavy machinery parked. Actually maybe more for safety than stealing so no goes stumbling over things.

Just a quick reminder, there are a couple of events next week that might give us some more clues to the progress being made on Universal's plans in respect of negotiations with the government. On Thursday 20th March, Bedford Council's Environment and Sustainable Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee will meet. Due to be on their agenda is an update on the Universal proposal.
Despite agreeing at the last meeting that the committee would receive an update on Universal's plans, the agenda for next week's meeting does not include an item on the theme park proposal. Disappointing, not least because their last update was so interesting. Perhaps it is too sensitive a time to have a public update if agreement between Universal and the government has not yet been finalised.

The committee does have an update on Wixams station on their agenda, which is closely linked to whether Universal goers ahead, so it will be interesting to see what reference is made to the theme park plans in the context of the new railway station.

The fence is at the far side of the land alongside Manor road, which is where the edge of the theme park will come to according to the plans they released. It’s half way through that parcel of land where the public footpath runs.

Jim Shull, former Disney Imagineer, has tweeted that Universal have announced James Bond for their theme park at Bedford. No idea how well connected Shull is to Universal Creative, so perhaps this is speculation on his part.

Not an IP that I'd be particular keen to see in USGB, but it would certainly meet the desire for something "UK themed" within the park.

I think he’s saying that he’d be very excited if they announced it.

If that's what he is saying I'd suggest he thinks more carefully about his communication skills. It's the missing "if" that is rather important here...

Poor wording from him but he has commented I believe previously that the park is further along in internal development than we would assume.

Don’t see how it’d work past a stunt show anyway

I agree, and I'm hoping that there won't be a stunt show of any kind in USGB.

I’m of the same opinion, I can’t see how it would work outside a stunt show. Or some kind of static attraction.

I find them dull, with little repeatability factor. Waterworld was terrible; the Indy Stunt Show not much better especially when you know that the audience members called on to stage are planted cast members; the stunt show in IoA was just plain boring; the Terminator show not worth queueing for; and I've not bothered to see the Jason Bourne show as I've concluded that type of attraction is just not my cup of tea. The only show I thought half decent was Moteurs Action which was loud, fast and seemed to have a genuine risk level. But even that show had lots of dull exposition between the scenes, especially when it was done in Paris and was bilingual.

I think Universal can do better. I hope they do.

Eh maybe its because I'm getting older, but I appreciate a nice stage or stunt show at a theme park, it breaks up the day and allows you to "rest" for a little lol

Understand that entirely, especially an indoor show so you can escape the heat and humidity of August in Orlando. But I'm not sure that's the best yardstick to judge an attraction by...
