It's so goofy that I look at google maps screen captures on here and after a while try to do the hand slide thing to look at other areas. Of course, that doesn't work on static images. :saywhat:

I'm pretty certain the answer is no but I'll ask anyway.

Let's say that attendance at WDW continues to drop and Universal builds 2 more parks and have 2 great resorts (enough to plan a 2 week vacation around) and it comes to a point where families will have to pick between Universal or Disney as there won't be enough time to do both.

Could Disney and Universal ever team up to make a joint ticket for both resorts?

I know that Disneyland used to have a friendly relationship with Knotts Berry Farm but over the past few decades, Disney have burnt all the bridges with local competition.

Your answer lies in a book called Disney Wars and you will see why it won't happen. Universal even asked Disney and then got screwed over.

I've got that booked line up for my trip in September. Really looking forward to it.

I'd disagree with that. Vegas has been complaining about a glut of hotel rooms as of late. That's why it took so long for them to escape the recession and why most new construction has stopped or slowly dramatically. There's definitely a maximum of anything that a given market can handle.

But theme parks and hotels are completely different than casinos and hotels

Speaking of casinos, I would imagine that Universal might be considering a casino as one of the hotels for that section. Especially right across from the Convention Center. It could be part of the property but separate (like one of those parcels connected by the transportation on the map).

Aren't commercial casinos illegal in Florida? If so, then I'd shoot that down faster than a speeding bullet.

There are Indian casinos all around

All they would have to do is partner with a tribe...

Hmm..I guess it would depend on the tribe then.

Doesn't it actually have to be on tribal land to be able to build it?

Pretty sure it has to be on tribal land, I mean the Seminols do own the Hard Rock brand and I would think they would want the existing hotel to have a casino if they could do it....I think it was only around six months after they opened the hotel casino in south FL that they bought out the Hard Rock brand.

It was ALL tribal land at one point, so anywhere works.

I don't know the details but the Hard Rock Casino near Tampa doesn't seem to actually be on their land as there's lots of other development surrounding it.

Yes it does. So Universal will not be just building one on their property.

I guess this explains it.

In 1980, while excavating to build a parking garage in downtown Tampa, Indian remains were discovered. They were exhumed and relocated to 8.3 acres of land east of Tampa, that was granted reservation status to the Seminole Tribe one year later.

So they just need to excavate some remains and place them on the property before they start construction.

The tribe has to own the land and set it up as a reservation. Then the TRIBE can build a casino. Universal would make $0 from it as they would not own the land or the casino. The most they could do is let the tribe use the Universal name and get money from those rights. However the tribe would have no reason to do this and therefore why would Universal even encourage this from happening.

The tribe WANTS to build in Orlando (it's the last large metro area they aren't in yet). They'd have very good reason to want to be in that location and make it part of the resort area and it would be mutually beneficial.

I really think Universal wouldn't want this for the same reason as Disney. Due to the whole family friendly thing. Which by the way I've never understood why gambling is an adult only think it's just games with betting.

That's why I said one of the detached parcels makes sense. Keep it separate yet connected to the resort overall.

I personally can't see a Casino though, just due to that it'd be in a way to me; a waste of space.
