No, I really was shocked when I learned of their interest. I am kinda surprised that I haven't heard of anything being developed for a space that doesn't exist at the current UOR.

Thinking about the third gate..would it make sense that atleast a few months after the opening of Diagon, that Comcast started talks with Mark Woodbury on the third gate?

I mean, they did keep Nintendo quiet for a while, and that Universal has said already that they have plans for the next 20 years, it would of made sense that work began in the concepts for this as early as May, thanks to the fact that Universal was looking for an armys worth of members to join Universal Creative. Then, you add on the surveys given to a few of us on the forums, we could be dealing that this is something Universals been going for since the Q3-Q4 2014 earnings to get this project to go faster.

That being said, I do not expect this by 2020, but I do expect a third gate if they can get the land (which they should) by 2021 with Construction starting as fast as late 2017/early 2018 but that's more of a hunch, considering that IOA took almost 7 years to finish from the start in 1993 to 1999.

And i'm also going under the assumption that Teebin is true that they've been looking at this land for the longest time, so it makes sense that it would of been atleast last year when this started to move.

I wonder if they could run a trolley (street car like in New Orleans) down the middle of Universal Blvd from the WnW plot down toward the Convention Center.

It was a few years ago when I stayed at the Orlando Hilton while visiting UOR, but I seem to recall thinking there was a lot of unused land near there, then driving to UOR via Universal Blvd and thinking there was room for something like a street car in the median...but I have no idea how much space something like that needs, esp if it would need to be two tracks....but I do recall it being a rather easy drive.

I dont think there will be a third gate. If it is it wont be your traditional theme park. More like a Hybrid theme park. Likely won't see it until 2025

Good points. Plus it would be tough to make that goal of 10,000 to 15,000 hotel rooms without a purchase somewhat near this size.

Mind if you be a bit more specific on Hybrids? As I can really see this being Universals true answer to Tokyo Disneysea on total immersion (which..i need to check how long construction took on that) and that it can arrive shorter than that..due to Comcasts nice way of bringing the revenue in on Universals parade.

Actually aside from the Maglev project the County and the International Drive Development Team has been planning an "I-Drive Circulator". It will either be BRT or some sort of rail line having right of way. Operated probably by Lynx or some private company. Goal is to have that up and running by 2022 if i recall the date correftly from Lynx Central Florida regional metro plans.

My two cents, I want immersive hi-tech rides and high thrills all the same .
Also, I never care for the word niche, anything can be dubbed a niche.

Hybrid Park...DisneyQuest could be considered a Hybrid theme park to some.

I would love to see an Epcot/DisneyQuest style interactive, super high-tech park and remind Disney what a futuristic theme park looks like again.

As much as I love old Epcot, there is a reason Disney started to move away from the original point of the park.

Universal is going to play it "safe" in terms of concept if they were to build a 3rd park.

It would be cool if they could do it with some sort of fake fire effect. Can you imagine how cool that would look from the ground....seeing the Delorean as a launch coaster with flashing lights and fire effects as it blasts off to 88mph?

I bet they could create an effect where people looking at it from the side would see them disappear into a puff of smoke with fire behing them. have the coaster go into a tunnel. the beginning of the tunnel could be a screen that makes it appear to be natural scenery and have the background look like day or night, sunny or cloudy, whatever the weather is. Lots to speculate over that's for sure.

Not enough of thrilling attractions and too many slow moving dark rides...granted, however they dropped the ball when trying to keep the ideals of Epcot in place when doing their changes...they could have done both.

See the original concepts for Mission:Space for example, then compare to what we actually got...it's a joke

I agree that they are probably going to play it safe in the conceptual terms. I have to think though, Universal should be looking at setting a goal for this park to be at the total immersion levels of a Tokyo DisneySea, where that shattered what a Theme park could be in terms of themed environments, and experiences.

DisneySea also cost upwards of $4 Billion to build, not including the land reclamation part from Tokyo Bay.

Lots of reasons for that though, including having to meet Japan's super strict Earthquake building code.

BTW, I never mentioned that Universal reacquired land backstage that they had previously sold. I am not sure that had previously been mentioned here. I believe that happened sometime in the past 8 months but I could be wrong.

Both the Hess (land) and the two office buildings that front Turkey Lake, I believe.

Or maybe that isn't Hess but Speedway now. Not sure.
