Super bummed with my trip timed for 3/7.... here's hoping they can find ways to address issues and open up quicker

It seems like Stardust should be one of the most stable, reliable rides in the park - arguably THE most reliable headliner. What’s happening here?

I don't think that's what's happening here.

What I've heard is that there is an internal deadline for Stardust to be open before March 13th. That's still nearly a month long downtime if we reach that deadline.

The three weeks before Easter will be crushed, so that deadline makes sense.

I am not saying this is wrong, but it sounds like one of the most "corporate" things I have heard. It seems super arbitrary. What would be the impact of missing this deadline? They won't open a coster if it is still broken. And they also won't say "Oh we missed the deadline, guess we will keep it closed forever."

Internal deadlines on unexpected maintenance can be a funny thing. Deadlines are great for managers to plan things with, however, sometimes you find more problems when you start investigating and the original deadline becomes obsolete.

I’m not privy to any details here, but given the young age of the ride, perhaps the structure is settling and needs to have the bolts re-torqued? Could’ve been as simple as finding a stress crack and having to do deeper investigation.

So off my Wednesday visit:

- The waits weren't terrible with Stardust down, and MoM closed for half the day (DK was the only one with insane waits).
- The AAs in SNW are hit and miss, but I'd say 65-35 were working, but a lot of the noticeable ones (Thwomp, Shy Guy, Piranha, Rambi) were not.
- The DK waterfall is back, but only the bottom 2 levels. Seems like they're leaving the top water feature off.
- All AA's minus intro Ygor were working on Monsters, even Drac was in A-Mode.
- Some small concrete construction projects are still ongoing around Celestial.
- Service at all restaurants I ordered/dined at was phenomenal, especially at Blue Dragon. The type that makes you tip 20-25%.

I need to sit and think about this for a while, but I'm leaning towards the point that some of the Epic issues are a tad overblown. It still needs stuff added, but it isn't dire straits.

In the meantime, if there are any Qs about my visit or what I noticed... ask away!

My working "theory" is that when you have a great day at Epic without any issues, you don't really think about the park's shortcomings until you hear horror stories from others. (As I've said elsewhere, I somehow had two pretty impeccable days at Epic where everything went our way.)

I know you said only some of the issues are overblown, but the park is extremely vulnerable to mass downtime, which can really undercut everything that makes the park great.

But my visit had Stardust down for the day AND MoM down until 4.

I don't mean to totally dismiss this thought; I think it's reasonable and true to some extent; but I believe part of what we've discussed endlessly here is that a day at Epic is totally variable, with possibly high peaks and fairly low valleys. A park day where most things are in working condition and crowds aren't the craziest can be legitimately stellar, but your day is really only a couple of random variables away from a fairly dismal experience.

Add a number of broken Unchained effects or Power-Up games, a number of poorly timed delays or queue dumps, any amount of lightning, a busier than average crowd level, etc., on top of Stardust or MoM being closed ... and the day might end up significantly rougher. There really aren't any solid ways to plan around those variables either. Sometimes a day at Epic is just worse than it should be or usually is.

That's obviously the case with all parks, but I think being a new park exacerbates those issues, with limited offerings and less experienced operations. A lot of these delays, contingincies, and systems are being actively figured out all at once from nearly total scratch. If something goes wrong, the systems in place to deal with that are less dependable than basically any other park in the area. On the scale of an entire park, that kind of management can really add up.

I'm glad to hear that your day went well, really! I just don't think that experience dismisses the critiques we've been shouting around here for a while. I know that's not exactly what you were saying either, but I hope my intention comes across. In my opinion, inconsistency and unreliability are Epic's worst traits.

I’m glad you decided to argue a point that I’ve yet to make.
