I assume it'll be like the EVOLVE scanners at WDW, there will be a side lane for guests to fix issues if they arrise. But yeah, even if it's 99.99% accurate you're going to have at least one error every hour!

I guess that's where I'm confused. Where is the side lane? The scanners appear to be right in front of the narrowing portal entrance. Are employees going to have to awkwardly cut across traffic and redirect guests out of the portal they've likely already stepped into?

I'm guessing there will be employees deeper in the portal to catch the errors. Just stop them "sorry there's been a problem, can you step to the side here?"

This kind of interaction is going to make the target and anyone else who witnesses it uncomfortable and defensive. This entire effort is going to create a terrible security-state atmosphere completely opposed to the escape-from-reality theme parks rely upon to maximize guest satisfaction - and spending. Yes, we are surrounded by cameras and our privacy has been destroyed, but the entrance to a theme park land shouldn’t remind us of this.

What makes all of this more infuriating is the fact that it’s all being done because of a lack of adequate planning prior to opening and a reluctance to spend the money to fix the situation now.

I've been a greeter at multiple different rides at multiple different parks. It's an uphill battle just trying to get guests to put stuff in a locker. I've been screamed at, pushed, guests will try to sneak around me, etc. I can't imagine that but for every land. It won't work without a security presence and that would just take guests out of the experience.

We have no clue how they are gonna address this.

Let’s hope for the best.

I’m only quoting this portion of your comment because this is another example of you jumping to conclusions and being completely wrong. We gotta chill with the hyperbole.

Interesting news, Helios fountain has just been filled with water as of today and the nighttime show resumed with main fountain features.

I thought they were still not done with wiring dmx cables and soon to install those moving head fixtures but from what I heard, there will be an important industry event happening on epic at today’s evening. so I assume they filled up the main fountain area temporarily to make sure everything in park is functioning when people from industry is visiting. This is pretty unexpected for sure.

I wonder if they sell a number of those non-member tickets. If you wanted a more exclusive experience at Epic for an evening, it'd be an interesting option to pursue. Especially since Epic comes alive in the evening in terms of its beauty.

The first 2 days of opening were good for me when it comes to exclusive experiences.

I would have greatly enjoyed it. I got to spend 3 days at Epic in January and would have enjoyed it with far fewer people inside. Such a beautiful park. Might be back in the fall and want to spend more time there.

What a difference a year makes. Last year the forum exploded with Epic like discussions. Lots of fun threads. Unfortunately, like with past land/attraction openings, interest wanes once the anticipated new stuff no longer has that new car/attraction scent. Now, the forum is often crickets, with a smattering of interest in the upcoming HHN and some new Disney stuff, but not a lot of anything else.

C'mon people, let's talk about the Epic plusses and minuses. Most everyone here that comments have been to Epic. There must be more stories and experiences that we haven't heard about. So many other theme park forums have faded away, or their discussions greatly curtailed. We need to keep this one fresh and vibrant so that it doesn't suffer the same fates of the disappearing forum sites/discussions.

Long live IU !!! :):):):):)

To put it bluntly, if annual pass upgrades were available for Epic there would be near daily blog posts cataloging every single little tweak and change, but until then, the people who usually post articles that spark new discussion just aren't in the parks regularly enough to create interest in the fandom.

I got to go to Epic in January for the first time. It was an unexpected add-on to another trip in the area and decided to just add another week so we could spend some time at Universal instead of trying to go back in the fall (which now wife and I might end up doing anyways).

I remember when I first moved to Orlando in 1992 going to Universal Studios Florida and loving every minute of it. Of course, that was a different park in those days and my memories are filled with Jaws and Back to the Future, Earthquake and Kongfrontation, Beetlejuice and Ghostbuster, Hanna-Barbara and Nickelodeon with the studio tour. It's probably when I fell in love with theme parks (I'd gone to Disneyland a couple of times as I was born in the Los Angeles area, but this is one of my first vivid memories of theme parks).

Growing up in the area, we didn't get to go to the parks a lot, but it was always on the periphery of our lives based on our location (minutes down the road from Universal). I remember in 5th grade we had a parent of a classmate come in and talk about the future of Universal Studios and building out Citywalk and Islands of Adventure (this was around 1996 or so). Four years later, I went to Islands of Adventure for the first time and saw the evolution of theme parks and loved every bit of it. Marvel Super Hero Island filled my geeky heart with joy, Toon Lagoon was a comfort area for me, and Lost Continent blew my mind away.

I went to school across the street from Universal and it was my backdrop of my teenager years. Finally, I got to work there for a decade and it launched my career in a direction I never imagined. I've been able to take my wife and boys probably four or five times now and share with them my love of theme parks.

All of that to say that Epic Universe was an interesting experience for me because I had to watch it from afar. I grew up in the industry and had visited some of the best parks in the world as a result of it. I could truly see the evolution of theme parks over the decades and Epic Universe was the next step in that journey. Stepping foot in, it felt like someone at Universal Creative said 'let's go make Tokyo Disneysea, but in Orlando' and it showed in so many of the decisions. Could there have been more rides? Of course and I think that will come with time. It felt like a park for adults, it felt like a love letter to the industry, and it felt like as close to all that is possible in a theme park.

My wife and I spent a couple of nights in the park as well and that's when the park just comes alive. The lights and the atmosphere make this a completely different experience. The Dark Monsters section is one that is nice during the daytime, but at night is where it really shines. The Harry Potter section -- while the ride to me is a dud -- is one where the atmosphere just is jaw dropping, especially coming from seeing Hogsmeade before it first opened and while stunning, you can feel the space constraints. Isle of Berk was my surprise of the trip because it was so much fun and felt like it wasn't constrained by thought.

There's more to do there. More rides, of course. More entertainment. One of the things that I would love to see are characters in spaces like Harry Potter that are wizards, going about their days, disappearing into many of the different facades. Make it feel lived in, alive, and it would go to the next level. For some, they'd be just as happy in line for a ride as they would watching the street entertainment around them, but not making it feel like a timed thing, but characters just going about their day in a way that truly elevates the experience (though having some in line would be a nice bonus and make you feel like you're seeing something unique).

There's still so much to come for Epic, I feel, and I can't wait to see it evolve over it's first decade (if the economy allows it to).

Yes. Universal has done the AP holders wrong. Just a very small ticket discount offered thus far. Even with the capacity issues, which are clearly on Universal, they could be way more generous with their ticket discount. And from what we're hearing from people taking surveys, they are over valuing Epic, especially if they want to double the price for a restrictive AP that only includes some Epic days.

Universal has not improved their maintenance issues yet, and that too is on them. But the oncoming travel crunch might end up forcing them into a 'reasonable' priced AP Epic pass. I can see a scenario where August, without many International visitors, experiences a really low Epic ticket demand.

But not all forum commentators are AP holders. So I'd like to see more input from them. The above post by @MAC is a good example.

I’m really surprised they haven’t done anything for AP holders yet. Is it a capacity issue or them not knowing how to structure it with a price increase?

Probably mostly capacity, since they screwed that up. If capacity was adequate, they'd probably would have had an AP option months ago. According to many, Universal has been surveying AP holders, but supposedly they've been indicating they want WDW level prices (4 parks there) for a limited restrictive access.
