the tapu alerted you to when your ride time was, don't think my face would work for that ;-)

Could be resolved with mini-facial rec scanners throughout the park that can update you on when your return time is.

Tapu Tapu going away is such a downgrade. It was not confusing, the family members I went with who know nothing about it going in and were older (50+) had no issue understanding the system. This virtual queue works for waterparks and not themeparks from a guest standpoint for a few reasons. First standing barefoot on hot concrete uncomfortable. Second there are other activities you can do unlike a themepark, wavepool, lazy rivers, and even beach chair relaxing. Not to mention when you have little kids Tapu Tapu made riding the adult slides so much easier. Leaving your kids with others in your group for 15mins so much better than having to leave them for an hour. It gave families more time together which had to have bumped up guest satisfaction. Tapu Tapu leaving is a big thumbs down for me.

Let me preface by saying I liked Tapu.

But there are definitely those that don't, and it's not a minority.

Hoping the refurb provides a capacity boost to the park. With 1-2 additional slides/attractions at a similar popularity to the aqua coaster, it should help alleviate the demand that slide receives.

Spontaneity is very important to many vacationing tourists. Things like VQ and Tapu are detrimental to that. Many of us out of state tourists prefer Universal over WDW because WDW overtly pushes planning at the expense of spontaneity, but even WDW is starting to back off due to tourist backlash. I like the freedom of changing my mind, at a whim, of what I'm doing and when I'm doing it, and enjoying the ambiance of the resort/environment without having my face in a phone, or a watch on my wrist telling me when I have to do something . That's the secret of a relaxing, no pressure, no phones, vacation.

I'm an out of towner - I'm not a big fan of VQs in general, but Tapu Tapu didn't bother me at all.

(That being said, I've never been to Volcano Bay in the summer)

Tapu allowed for spotanaeity. VQ and Tapu are not alike outside of a "reserved" time. VQ was a fight for limited tickets set at specific times. Tapu held your spot in line while you explored the park, but you chose which attraction.

The problem was that many people couldn't grasp the concept. They wanted to go to another ride, etc.

Thats the theme park community in general.

Disney’s is much worst at the moment.

Yeah, I felt Tapu made spontaneity much easier. I tapped into a line and then hung out in the wave pool, bar, lazy river, bar again until my number was called with a piece of technology that doesn’t feel any more sophisticated than a pager. My phone was happily tucked away in a locker — the only thing I kept on me was my ID (which was a hassle but, you know, I could always not drink — and something tells me now that the baby is here I’ll never get ID’d again :lmao: )

That said, I get this wasn’t everyone’s experience. I know I’ll miss it, but as usual, my takes are not prescriptive on this matter.

Just seems odd to end it now . Instead of after they close for maintenance next year. What the sudden change mid/season?

You could only use it for one ride at a time, right? I wonder if it would've made a difference if you could reserve 2 to 3 rides instead.

I know at one point, you could stack 2 rides if your first reservation was Krakatoa or the Drop Slide. There was also no Tapu required for Taniwha Tubes.

Krakatau still pulls 2-3 hour waits. So I guess I'm never riding that again...

Does Krakatau even have the queue space to handle this? It's going to be rough.

That’s my concern out of all this. Everything else SHOULD be good but IDK what the plan is for this one yet.

Only viable solution would be some sort of color-coded bracelet that has your designated return time (like printed on it)? Like the old fastpass system, but with a bracelet you can wear and then turn in when it's your turn. (Red 10AM-11AM, Blue 11AM-12PM, etc.)
