Counter-point: The row behind me was mostly kids, and 30 mins in they were already bored and over it.

Wicked 3: The Search for More Money coming soon

Joking Aside, I am excited to see what they do but for the love of god, hire someone better for the songs. None of the new songs or little extra's for me really did much to add to the music side of the movies, so please get someone who can write some songs that try to live up to the OG ones.

Full (edited) quote from the Vulture interview below:
Now, with robust ticket sales for Wicked: For Good expected to continue through the Christmas movie corridor, perhaps inevitably its studio distributor, Universal, is already imagineering a sequel or a spinoff within what would be a de facto Wizard of Oz Cinematic Universe. “Because of Wicked’s success but also the fanship, we have almost a responsibility to figure out how we can continue in this universe,” Universal’s chief marketing officer, Michael Moses, tells Vulture. “Have we figured it out yet? No. But there are things underway.”

Interesting difference here is they didn't necessarily say "silver screen" (like Variety reported). This broader statement then could include TV, stage, books, or theme parks.

Don't overthink it, just adapt Son of a Witch and cast Jeremy Jordan. Keep building out "Wicked," don't try to bring in Wizard of Oz.

Agreed

Oz also has many other story's so not like they are short on inspiration outside the Wizard story

For the Wicked/For Good fans-- the video that Ari and Jonny did for the New York Times making pizza is almost 20 minutes of why they were so good in the movies. They really seem to like each other.

The thing about Wicked For Good is that it is, unfortunately, Act Two of Wicked.

Exactly. Source material got it. I would say the majority of second acts in musicals are weaker than the first. Because unlike movies which have a first, second and third act; musicals just get two.

The only way they were going to make a perfect part two was to never have a part two and combine one and two and kill some of the filler. A nice 3hr wicked film with some necessary changes to adapt it (see: west side story).

But then they’d only make half the money, so…

Finally saw it last night due to a business I was closing on tying me up completely. 100% agreed on the two new songs. This is the one thing that had a chance pulling the second film closer to par with the first film: some banger songs with great sets. And these weren't that… at all. They were largely slow ballads that were sadly forgettable (though I did like the no place like home nod as a lyric).

When you only have one great number in the movie, it’s not going to hold up to part one. They didn’t have to be as good as the Wizard and I or Popular; but a piece on par with Dancing through life would have improved it a great deal.

Part 2 Has the Song for the Better which is a top tier song but after that....its all....this is music

Wonderful is also a good song but...I think they kind of messed it up musically because of the choices made to give a certain character more screen time

I wonder while I do love Glinda in the movie if thats why I'm not as big of fan of the films...like this is Elphaba's story but the movies make it much more both there story's and I think it kind of doesn't work as well as just being Elphaba story

Also side note the Film makers don't know how Time work, they claim the second film is a year after the first....sorry Wicked Part one and two just need to be years apart for me to work. No idea why modern day film people don't want long periods between movies (like Star Wars Force Awakens and Rise of the Jedi being like weeks apart for some reason)

*For Good
And the first act gets multiple bangers and the second act has always just had For Good as the only great song.

It’s how it’s always been. Elphaba gets the first act and Glinda gets the 2nd.

I think Ariana Grande did excellent in this one whereas she was just okay for the first one. But again, that’s the source materials fault. Nothing she could do; just like Erivo or Bailey didn’t get as much to work with in “for good”. If they somehow mark her down as a supporting actor and not the lead, I think she could get a nomination.

But again- all of this could have been remedied if it was one long film instead of 2. Going back to see the wizard after already knowing he was bad, for example, is just complete filler that was never needed in film, I’d argue a plot hole, and was only done in the play to fill time for the second act. No different than the dream sequence in Oklahoma or the ballet scene in West side story’s 2nd acts.

But as it stands, this movie was fine. Some missed opportunities like better original songs, but it is what it is. Beautiful sets, great acting by Grande and any chance to hear Cynthia Erivo belt some songs is always a good time.
