One thing that doesn't come across in video well is how much layered Musion-like tech is used to provide depth. It just comes off as flat 2D. It's probably said elsewhere in this thread, but this is the Hollywood Studios "Legend of Jack Sparrow" tech pushed to its limits.

Ok so this is a new projection tech on those large screens then. It appeared to not be the case and the Legend of Jack Sparrow tech was only used for smaller bits.

Yeah, that first big dome looks like a a regular domed projection, but the following scene where you see the squid through the hull of the ship? Check out the camera flash at about around 2:55 - it reveals the two layers. It's supposed to be really amazing effect.

Jack's introduction was very cool.

And as for the dead spots, I don't mind lulls in the action between sets for a longer ride.

I have watched that about 10x now and for the life of me, I don't have a clue how they done that.

I'd say that's the greatest theme park illusion I have ever seen.

I'm pretty sure they just project a skeleton onto Jack's body, at least that's what i'm seeing.

Yeah. The more I watch it, the less convincing it is actually. Although i'm sure in person it would be completely different.

Yea, that's what it is. It's similar to how Shiriki Utundu appears/disappears in the TDS ToT

Yes, Disney uses projection mapping very creatively. In this case, it was quite startling and fantastical the first time.

I know all the tricks (just like everyone here) and I also couldn't figure this one out for the life of me.

Here's a full ride video for Soarin. It looks like the same film will be in all the parks as they went with a location neutral big city firework ending instead of one for each of the parks.

Wow, quite a bit of that looked like CGI. The Taj had to be worst that accosted my eye. Me thinks Disney is pulling some wool here.

The only thing you will be surprised by is how bad it is at transitioning from location to location yikes.

Yea, not a huge fan of the new version. The transitions are...oof.

At least the music is mostly the same.

A lot is fake here, though.

The balloons formed a mickey, that was cool, but it's pretty amazing how much CGI is here.

Sorry to keep slamming this but I must because fake hand gliders and golf balls don't bother me. That ISN'T the Taj Mahal and none of the shot is INDIA. It is one big Mission to Mars fake. I am really disgusted by the whole thing.

There are moments that are really quite beautiful, which only makes the terrible CGI stand out even more. So extremely disappointing.

I think I figured it out? Spoiler tagged just to be safe.

It looks like a version of the pepper's ghost effect. The skeleton is actually reflected off of an angled mirror or pane of glass (look at the angle of the ship's mast leaning toward the boat, and the large empty space between the riders and where Jack is standing). I'm not sure if it's a physical skeleton (which would be "standing" on it's side outside of the rider's view) or just a projection, but either way they throw a little sparkly effect on the reflection, change the lighting to illuminate the AA, and presto, we have a Jack Sparrow AA.

That's my thought anyway. I love when they use old-school effects in new ways.
