Losing people eaters like Twister, Disaster, and even Beetlejuice DOES make a difference. All those people are in line for other rides now. Straight Outta Fish is just not cutting it.

Lol. Most of us didn't (except I was a sucker for Twister nearly every time), but plenty of tourists definitely did.

I think this works for Dragon Challenge shutting down and being replaced with a single coaster.

Disaster, Twister and BJ almost always played to full crowds. Maybe for people on here it was a one and done thing, but those attractions most certainly gobbled up thousands of lost tourists each day.

Just for example, people here don't go to Kidzone either, but if they decided to close it right now for Nintendo (along with everything else closed) the park would be devastated. Kidzone is a huge people eater.

Twister and Disaster both basically had no ride restrictions. So all guests including grandmothers and babies could experience these attractions. That's a huge consideration for the capacity of the park.

I did Twister once per trip and there were about 40-60 people in there per show in October on a weekday.

I can see a big difference in wait times with those three attractions gone. There are also big swings in wait times when one or two of the other attractions goes down.

What if I told you attendance has kept going up, so any comparisons to last year or years before is null? Closing two rides has effects on overall capacity of the park, but Twister and Disaster weren't pulling in such large numbers to drastically affect wait times of the remaining attractions.

I'd say if those 3 attractions were open, the rest of the park would have shorter waits.

But we're getting 2 new, better attractions so it's worth it.

Exactly!! I said the same thing! Universal has increased park attendance upwards of 900k for last 2 3 years consistently.

I've been an annual pass holder for many years and have seen the crowd changes as Universal has improved. Still miss the Enchanted Oak Tavern. My times observation was in comparison to what was going on at IOA at the same time. I go many times a year and noticed these changes right after the three attractions closed.

I agree, it effects wait times, but we are getting new stuff. Still wish the new stuff was a little different than what it is. But I do think this is why Kidzone never got removed. The rumors was it would go down last year and I kept saying that would be a huge mistake. I think Uni realized having 3 rides, 3 shows, and 2 play areas shut down with increased attendance was a bad idea. So I don't see Kidzone going down until these two rides are up and running.

I still think both rides should have been more family friendly since Studios is going to be worse off when Kidzone closes when it comes to kids stuff. Fallon will have a height restriction, but I am glad that F&F most likely won't. So when kidzone shuts down they will have 2 shows, 2 3D experience, and 2 rides that doesn't have a height restriction when this closes down. ET has a low height restriction, so they might have that too, but they could shut that one down too. Plus one of the 3D ones (T2) could be very scary for kids and one of the shows is boring (fear factor). So for families that have a child under 40" they just aren't going to see the value in Studios. Even if just one child is under that height. Which is always been my issue with not having family rides. It isn't that you keep the families with young children away, you keep the families that have just ONE young child away. It is why we won't be renewing our Uni Annual passes. While my oldest can get on 90% of the rides and by the end of the year Mummy and FJ will get added to the list and only be the big 3 coasters she can't get on, my youngest can get on pretty much nothing. So it is not worth it for us to go. In fact I am considering keeping her in daycare and having my mom watch her at night when we go when my friends are in town. But people on vacation don't have that option.

I agree with most of what you are saying. Closing Kidzone and possibly ET, even after Fallon and F&F is open, will effect the park wait times and some of the demographics as well. My opinion on the matter though is that Universal has always not been a huge draw from families with kids the age that Kidzone is aimed at. When Kidzone goes down, it will be a hit for those families with small kids who do come to the parks, however the payoff of the Nintendo addition from a marketing perspective that will be a far bigger pull for that same demographic out ways the issues of losing Kidzone for a few years. With Nintendo incoming, and the DreamWorks Animation acquisition, I think Universal is setting itself up to finally start marketing more heavily to the family and kids crowd that has often felt second to the teenage/young adult crowd the parks are currently more appealing to due to the selection of attractions available.

Oh I agree the end product is going to be worth it. I also agree the 3rd park should have a better mix of thrill to family rides. I also think kidzone was too kiddie. I don't want kiddie, I don't want spinners, I want true family rides. Which I think will come with Nintendo. Even my 5 year old thinks spinners are now "baby" rides. Same with Carousals. So I think those types of rides have too small of a demographic, but with their small footprint can be shoved into places that nothing else can be shoved into (Simpson Spinner). So I am OK with them. However, what I think Uni lacks are the family rides (Potc, haunted mansion, Peter Pan, Pooh (thinking more CA version), etc.) as they only really have two. ET (majorly outdated) and Cat in the Hat (Without the spinning it is just not very interesting) and that is not enough to make a well rounded park. So I am hoping in the next 6 years they really start to fill that gap in. I just think it is going to be a very painful 4 years at Studios with the loss of capacity.

You think the CA of Pooh is better? I've always gathered that people thought that was worse.

Isn't that the trackless one? Not sure I always hear people talking about poohs honey hunt and how they like it. Maybe I am thinking of something else. I have never been to any Disney property except WDW.

The trackless Pooh attraction is in Tokyo Disneyland... And I think one is going in Shanghai as well.

Are we going to start picking apart the carousel in Seuss next? I think Fallon will be a very satisfactory attraction. No park can be 100% mega attractions. Right?
