And this is why China is such an unpredictable market. There's so little control over IPs there and the Chinese market may not realize that there's a difference in quality between parks, just knowing that they went to the cheaper one and saw the characters their kids wanted to see.

Disney Sparks Theme-Park Battle to Entertain China's Middle Class - Bloomberg

This is going to be Disney (and Universal's) biggest issue in China. The Wanda Group basically said that some storefronts in their CityWalk-equivalent used costumes and it was all outside of Wanda's jurisdiction. China's IP laws are lax enough that they'll probably get away with it. Heck, there's a faux Disneyland. I worry that IP rip-offs will pop up much quicker than Disney (and Universal) will be able to litigate against them. It'll mean that Disney + Universal will have to compete on quality, but...that only goes so far.

In the US, the high-quality parks came first and then the more regional, lower-quality parks came later. This ensured that the regional parks didn't ever get enough market share to threaten the major players quickly. In China, the cheap parks already own the market. Disney and Universal will have to compete with parks that do it cheaper, poorer, and with little regard for IP law.

also towards the end of the video the mention something like 300 more parks will be opening by 2020.Its basically the video game crash of 83 but with theme parks.

300 parks is nonsense and will only be the quality of Dismayland by Banksy!!

why china anyway why didn't Disney build in Dubai. Then they could have charged 15 dollars for a soda.I mean geez just look up the gold bar ATM at Dubai.

How is 300 parks nonsense? Their population is about 5x that of the US. We probably have 100 theme parks and amusement parks of varying shapes and sizes, 300 would be about right to serve a population of that size. No one said they'll all be Disney quality, but each will take a share just like they all do here.

They are not all owned by the same company though.

The administration of such an operation would be a crazy setup. Some companies struggle to run 300 stores, let alone 300 theme parks

Great business decisions. China's economy is in a huge downturn & the response is to build 300 amusement parks. Wonder how many of those will end up like their abandoned cities & the steel mills that produce three times as much steel as the entire world uses?

Thinking about it, that is a really good way of putting it!
Yep, they used the world financial community to finance everything in the beginning. The allure was "that vast market of billions of Chinese". And they've milked it since, reinvesting everyone's money. Pure Ponzi scheme. The world's financial institutions and investment companies are in too deep to leave. The scheme keeps getting bigger & bigger. Remember, China was one of the world's poorest nations, with no cash or real assets, when all of this started.

Most of the theme parks we all know were built during the economic downturn in this country between 1971-1976 when gas prices went through the roof and all kinds of uncertainty were happening. Building during a downturn is not necessarily a bad idea, all downturns will eventually get better.

Uhh, there wasn't a significant economic downturn during that period. A very brief recession in part of 71-72 and it was pretty vibrant after that. I lived through that period. Times were good. In fact, way better than now, mostly because there was a strong middle class that made good money for the time, and the well paying manufacturing jobs hadn't been sold out overseas by the businesses & politicians. No, that period showed a much stronger and spread out economy than the present. Today, it's become very top heavy with an dwindling middle class. Trickle down economics didn't work so well. The rich only got insanely richer. I agree with most of your posts, but certainly not this one. :)

As I said, different time period. People didn't take low paying part time jobs to bring the job rate down. Most people lived very comfortably than with a lot of disposable income. That was a mild recession that didn't affect many people. Technically, we're not in recession now, but people have lost tremendous buying power in relation to what was then. The middle class was in better shape than, than they are now. Those stats don't really tell the true story. Plus, the park boom was mostly in response to the Baby Boomers demographic, which had tremendous disposable income at the time.

We have what seems to be a POV now for Roaring Rapids...and while the set design looks lovely..there is something wrong. Something far worse than the Disco Yeti. And What i'm talking...is the "Dead Dino".

Wow, that takes bad show to a whole new level. Ride looks fun, though. If the AA were working and didn't have its inner workings exposed, it'd be a great ride.

and while the set design looks lovely

Oh man, I can't disagree more. Outside the caves, which look nice save for the non-operational AA, there is no set design. It's a ride through bland, samey-looking rockwork.

I'm really disappointed in this ride, from the video. Had really high hopes, but it looks like Everest 2.0: A potentially great scene with little else surrounding it.
