I reject the idea that a kiddie land has to be riddled with IPs. Anyone who has been to a boardwalk amusement park knows that its just one big kiddie land.

From what I can see, no one likes this idea. Any chance of it going the way of the Hyperion Wharf and getting a big ol' "never mind! just kidding!!"? lol

Also, if it has to happen, retheme Screamin' to be Inside Out's "Riley's Goofball Looper!" or something. Keep it as untouched as possible.

Agreed. I actually think Paradise Pier caters to the kudos as is with most of the rides there, no need to strike Lasseter's ego by giving him ANOTHER land in this park.

God I hope. The good news is that this has been pure negative reaction. I haven't seen a whiff of positivity or even polarization in reaction to this. All insiders seem pretty mum at the moment, and there's no permits or hard start date pushed out yet. I just pray that this doesn't actually happen or at least is significantly reduced in footprint. Like, okay redo the stretch from Screamin to the old Maliboomer plot without touching the Fun Wheel, toss in some kiddie rides and call it a day. No need to redo the entire damn thing.

A bit of a rant incoming. I apologize in advance for rambling.

This decision still just baffles me, even a day later. I at least understood the reasons for Mission Breakout; Twilight Zone is a non-Disney property that doesn't bring in the merch $$$ like the home-owned Guardians. But the current attractions in Paradise Pier are already Disney-themed. The land was remodeled just five years ago, and is now a very cute and nostalgic mixture of old-school Disney and old-school seaside theme parks. I feel like throwing in Pixar kind of ruins that, considering Pixar IPs are distinctly modern and don't mesh with the classic boardwalk tone at all. I know Toy Story Midway Mania was already there, but that's a single dark ride specifically made to match the theme, not the basis for an entire land. Meanwhile changing Silly Symphony Swings to something like Toy Story Swings or making Mickey's Fun Wheel into "Pixar Fun Wheel" just seems so forced and inorganic. Was Pixar merch not selling enough at the rest of the resort? Do we really need MORE Pixar content at DCA, which already is FULL of Pixar?

The biggest thing I take from this is that the California theme is truly dead. While it was never strong, I think they found a nice balance after the 2012 redo. Not everything was perfect (such as Radiator Springs technically being in Arizona), but every land had a distinct Californian tone; Grizzly Peak is obviously Yellowstone-inspired, Cars Land brings to mind iconic desert towns and canyons that exist throughout California, Paradise Pier is based off the Californian seaside boardwalks of old, Hollywood and Buena Vista Street are obvious. The only true outlier was Bug's Land. But with Soarin' Over California gone, the Hollywood Tower Hotel gone, Paradise Pier becoming Pixar Pier, and (seemingly) Marvel Land taking parts of Hollywood Land... if the park wasn't due for a rename in the past, it definitely is now.

Hyperion Warf? Never heard about this?

This rumor just came out of no where. I really hope they add some kiddie rides and quietly et this announcement die. Retheming Screamin to Slinky Dog and putting Luxo on the wheel sound bloody awful. I suppose they're going to remove the loop on Screamin' to make it more family friendly.

Anyone else on board with my "Jon Lasseter MUST BE STOPPED!" campaign?

I've been saying it for years but this seems to first time the general public is seeing his work for what it is.. ego. Pure ego.

Did you get info on Pixar Pier? And if that's the case...I wouldn't be surprised to hear what it'd be.

IDK. PtN was one of the highlights of our trip. I don't think we spent much time at the pier at all. If the choices are PtN and Pixar Pier, or no PtN at all.. Give me PtN

Can somebody explain all of the John Lasseter hate? I've always just known him as the Pixar director that helped revamp Disney Animation. From my perspective, I know nothing but good things about him.

He's good at what his job is: Running the animation studios.

He has no business having so much say in the theme parks.

I don't get it either. Lasseter is the closest thing to having Walt Disney alive for many of us.

His bottom line is to shove as much Pixar into the park's as humanly possible. He could care less about anything else that goes on at WDI.

I'd say it's akin to giving JK Rowling full control of Universal Creative. Sure, we'd get nice Potter-related stuff.. but then we'd also get a Cursed Child playland/parade and Casual Vacancy hotel.

I admit she'd probably be more reasonable about other creative properties.. Laseter just wants to piss all over any and all things to make them his. For a man with a supposed great love of Disney theme parks, he seemingly has zero respect for its history.

He "loves" the Jungle Cruise - but not in the "I want to see all the effects cleaned up, everything in working order, nice and shiny an maybe plussed" sort of way - but in the "I'll drink a bottle of my own vineyard's wine and then commandeer a boat and give my own HILARIOUS version of the spiel to unwitting park guests and they'll LOVE IT because I'M LASSETER!! LOLZ!"

I think Lasseter started out meaning well, but has completely de-evolved into ego. This is the same person who reneged on a promise to keep the Toy Story trilogy a finite thing because he couldn't help himself, and now he's keeping the project alive despite not being on it anymore because of sunk costs. At this point, he's a liability.

Pixar Pier is so unnecessary from both a thematic and financial standpoint. You can add more rides without it, the other ones do not need the retheme. The fab five represented are iconic, the area is spruced up. Could there be some fixing done? Yes. Hell, the concept art is fine if (aside from Pixar Fun Wheel) that was just it. 100% a baffling decision and I hope TDA sees the cost overruns aren't worth it and orders a shutdown, or at least a partial one.

I'd really hate to lose Mickey's face on the Fun Wheel. It's the best photo op in the park.

As for the rest of it, I'm keeping an open mind.

I mean, I can keep an open mind until I see it too, but until then, I can't help but think about how unnecessary it is. Honestly, the Pier was just redone 5 years or so ago.
