Sorry, I'm with @RevFreako on this one. This thread was alarmingly incognizant of the spikes in COVID cases in relation to this event. Ultimately, I'm sure it came down to the numbers continuing to trend upward for FL. Not surprised in this least. I was more surprised at everyone's fierce adamance that the event absolutely would go on AND look similar to all the years past. Yeah, no.

In the great words of Ian Malcolm..

I mean, tangentially? It was mostly external pressure from IP holders and the county that forced Universal’s hand. They were absolutely going to put on the event until they felt they “couldn’t.”

There was no easy answer here because even the event's cancellation I'd expect another round of layoffs.
An argument could be made that they did this to AVOID layoffs. But obviously that's above our heads at the moment.

Hhn being cancelled is disappointing but it is the right call. Tbh I’m hoping we get a different lineup next year instead of keeping the same lineup.
Sanjay. Please.

Speculation: Do we get a documentary of the history of HHN, the creative teams, etc. on Peacock, so that it fired up everyone for next year?

Opinion: The scarezones that they were going to do are WAY better in an interactive atmosphere. It was and hopefully is, the best scarezone lineup we've ever had.

Disappointed and sad, but it's the right decision overall. We're going to have to call to get our BOGO tickets refunded, but can't say it's a shock. Hopefully we'll be able to go all out next year with express and maybe Unmasking the Horror.
Thanks for the discussion y'all. I'm more of a lurker these days but I always appreciate reading through everyone's thoughts.

It also would have been nice to experience a more intimate HHN but on to next year. It's been a pleasure as always reading this thread. Hope you all stay safe.

I'm not sure if universal has povs of all their houses going back to the beginning but it would be cool if they could have a virtual hhn where each week or each event night that was supposed to be, they release videos relating to each past year and throw up some throwback merch from that year to buy. Would be a cool way to thank the fans, keep interest alive, and have the chance to sell some merch.

wow this thread is moving fast.

Can someone tell me what the "rumored" houses were this year?

Im just curious. I know nothing was official.

All I know is I'm going all out next year assuming it's safe. Hard Rock Resort, Rush of Fear with Express, the whole shebang.

This. Although it's Royal Pacific all day for me.

Thoughts out to all the TMs and staff who will be impacted. I'll be glad to get my Scottish a$$ back over the pond next year spending more than ever.

Thanks for a ridiculous/preposterous but most of the time entertaining thread this year folks. I'll never listen to iron maiden again though

Sad, was very curious to see what new techniques they were going to implement to try and make the event safer. These circumstances could have led to innovations that would forever improve the event. This was the year to try new things and see what works. Understand decision, but thought this year might have changed how haunts are done in the future.

To those coming in here to only kick people when they are down, don't. Just leave and maybe ask yourself why you feel the need to run up and kick people when they are down. Be nice people.

Calling absolute bogus on this claim. We were all told multiple times by mods that Covid discussion had its own threads any time concerns were raised about the "will it, won't it" speculation. And rightly so. We discussed as if the event was on as per every bit of information that construction and planning were still taking place, not based on statistics that were being discussed in a different thread. It made perfect sense to me and many others to do so.

Did I have a feeling that the event would be canceled because DeSantis and a certain percentage of Floridians couldn't get their isht together? Absolutely. Did I toss that statement around as early as possible "for the clout" or self-gratification of being right when an announcement did eventually happen? No, because it really wasn't the topic at hand.

Anyways, cheers to all you wonderful folks and mods that had to read and reign us in. :) Some of you are jerks. But I still love ya. :p

I just got on lunch after my busiest morning of all time to see this news. Setting up outdoor browsing at our library for the first time ever. From that standpoint, just setting up a 20x50 tent space for our new materials was a heck of a lot of work to make sure everything followed guidelines. I can only imagine how hard Uni's crew must have been working these past few months, I feel deeply sorry for them. I truly hope the event continues next year and the park doesn't suffer unrecoverable losses from this cancellation.
