I've been watching it over and over again and spotting out more physical elements.

Spoiler: BREAKDOWN TIME!

• The overhead column right before facing Volcanic Bowser.
• The volcanic clouds behind Bowser appears to be a physical set and illuminated by show lighting.
• The volcanic geyser below Bowser has this curved wrapped look to it, little confusing for me to tell what's really going on there.
• RAINBOW ROAD TRACK! (I'm counting it).
• There's this weird tubular archway over the Rainbow Road section that twists around (you can spot it beside the AR Bowser firework). Reminds me of the proton beam effects from the Ghostbuster mazes, as it has this glossy plastic-like sheen to it that makes me think it's supposed to have some internal illumination. Maybe the effect isn't in-use during this recording (?). But I don't know, it's just sitting there in the dark.
• Looks like there's depth to the screen walls during this section, you can spot it when the Rainbow Road track snakes around in front of the riders (the tracks are their own extruded layers). It also gives the stars this Space Mountain-y feel.
• Mario Kart archway at the finish line!

NOTE: Also just realized that weird lap-bar looking thing at the bottom of the video is just the reflection of their phone camera from the AR lens. Haha.

I haven’t even done drugs yet today but that was TRIPPYYYYYYYYY, how did they do that ending?!?!?!?

This seems to be a technological mind f and I am HERE FOR IT.

Edit: I’ve been waiting forever for this and it looks just SO COOL. Best part is remember this is from under the AR set, so the top half everyone sees isnt of a screen it’s the AR goggle, the combination of this is UNREAL!!!!! Fan girlingnall day BE AWARE.

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t watched this for like 30 min straight. Mind blowing from my IPhone screen.

My one trepidation about this whole thing was how the AR was actually going to work. AR tends to look wonky and fake.

“Works well” is an understatement based on what we just saw, will be worth the wait. I couldn’t help myself clearly but it’ll be worth it

Yeah. It looks like they nailed that part of it. I think there will be some “screen-ception” grumbling as it’s essentially a screen within a screen, but if it’s a fun ride who cares.

It’ll be interesting to see how they move forward with the AR tech. Incorporating it into more physical based rides may be more of a challenge.

Pretty sure some of the first half of this ride might be fairly physical though.

I think AR works well for this because Mario and AR lend themselves well to cartoony imagery. Not sure how well it would work for more photorealistic settings.

Honestly, seeing this, I get why they didn't go with AAs. AAs were never going to be as fast, fluid, and frenetic as the ride requires
