An OC Register article recently revealed the debut time line for Avatar:

"" Walt Disney Imagineering remains in the early stages of development on the Avatar project which is not expected to debut until 2028 or 2029."

www.ocregister.com

Disneyland to keep Monsters Inc. dark ride open until 2027

Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue will remain open as work begins in early 2026 on the new Avatar themed land.

100% it’s not opening in 2028 with Monsters’ closing date pushed but 2029 sounds crazy optimistic. Would love to see it if that’s the case though!

I could see 2029 if the land is just a queue for the ride. It doesn't seem like they're doing anything with the monorail, so I assume the land's boundaries are constrained.

I'd really like them to reconsider the placement of Avatar and just put Monstropolis back here instead. This will also continue the Disneyland Resort's winning (and funny) streak of getting everything that Hollywood Studios gets.

Funny enough I read some off the wall rumor on Facebook that they cancelled Avatar land in wake of the new movie underperforming. I don’t buy it but if they replace it with the Monsters Inc coaster I wouldn’t be mad

I know these movies cost a truckload but it's just bonkers to me that we live in a time where it's on the board to consider a movie making $1.5 billion worldwide underperforming.

Yup. When Godzilla minus one cost only 12 million (Possibly less!) Hollywood needs to learn a lesson to get their dang budgets under control.

Though I loved the movie, the CGI on Godzilla was a bit underwhelming. Not that it needed to be a $200 million movie but just that Godzilla's movements were a bit robotish. I know that he is supposed to be struggling under his own weight but it wasn't great. Still one of the best Godzilla movies made. It does boggle my mind that some of these movies cost as much as they do. Of course, an Avatar ride at DCA will cost more than the film did.

Well, early Godzilla became a cult movie with puppet video and Raymond Burr (Perry Mason), so they don't even need a good movie, and good CGI for him. He should be able to stand on his own weight and rep. ;) :lmao:
