Could you tell the various themes of the trees at night? Or is it just basically lit trees?

Kinda. Wasn't really conveyed well. Had to get close or see the sign (if there was one).

They had some blue lighting along walls and the walkway, and the trees weren't really lit well IMO.

As far as parking lot critique, it just stands out more because the output looks so cheap. With ICE, it's done really well that you don't care or notice where you are.

From everyone's comments, I think they should have brought Osborne lights to DS.
Given the open space in the new areas, this would have been a great addition.
Probably too much work/planning involved and no way for them to upcharge visitors to recoup any of the cost.
This setup sounds like decorated trees at the local mall.

The amount they spent on this probably less than 1% of what it would take to bring the Osborne lights. Certainly less than 5%.

Again, it's comparable to what they used to have in Camp Mickey-Minnie--might even be the same base trees. It's a cute addition--if they try to sell it as a must-see holiday extravaganza, it will backfire on them.

The way I see it this is like a cute, extra holiday offering in a park, but the real holiday offering here will be the drone show.

Attractions Magazine has a preview of the drone show that happened over Disney Springs waters late at night recently. Apparently there will be 3 shows per night.

There does also seem to be a lot of lighting projected onto buildings at one point, but I can't quite make out where those buildings are. The drones are also still pretty loud, even with the music to go along with the show.

Not to be "that guy", but this is the kind of thing that doesn't play well on video.

Not saying the show is good, just that if it were, it would be hard to tell from video.

To be honest, for a free show I think it's pretty neat. I also agree with what @Disneyhead says, In the fact that I also think it will play far better in person.

The tech behind it is quite exciting too, give it a few years and I think we will be seeing much more of this kind of thing, only vastly improved and hopefully with quiet drones.

Easy to knock Disney but on this occasion I'm giving them kudos as I think they done good.

Agreed, and FWIW, hearing last night was more of a test run, not the final show. Reserving judgment until I see the show in person next week.

Seems like this suffers from expectation inflation. It's a free show at a shopping venue, not Illuminations. Plus I get the feeling this would work best as part of a show, not a show by itself (looking at you Jack Sparrow DHS).

This is similar to looking at all the crappy phone photos of the supermoon on Monday night.

One thing about this show is the formations don't work off angle especially given the imprecision. They would need to plan accordingly for these to work in epcot.

It's suffering the same artistic hurdles that World of Color did and Rivers of Light is just starting to overcome.

Some elements (wind, water) cannot be controlled with precision in an outdoor venue and basing your show off a bunch of fanciful concept artwork is a sure fire plan for failure.

At some point the folks at Disney decided that the concept art and the backstories are their "art" - not the practical installed items and functioning shows themselves. So building from that end you have many people who have no real concept of what won't work functionally.

"Dear god, our lives are in the hands of engineers."

Until they fix that fundamental flaw in how they view their projects they're going to keep making the same mistakes.

This technology would be a great way to enhance a show that's fully fleshed out. It is not great as the show itself.

Those would be a great for for AK. Another non-firework item that can be used for nighttime shows.

Be neat if Uni trumped Disney and used them in VB night time show.

And "something terrible goes wrong" as they crash land into the Dr. Phillips H.S. neighborhood. ;)

lol.. plus FAA requires that they not be flown over humans so Volcano bay is out of the question.. no space for them to fly over.. The lagoons in IOA / UO would be perfect though
