Yes, a computer will have the information, but it is the amount of people that can access THAT computer I think is the issue. And I believe that it will be a select few that will have access to all of the information. So again, it doesn't bother me one bit. Also, I am with my child at all times at Disney, tracking or no tracking...too many wierdos out there. So them knowing where my child is, really doesn't make a difference to me. I really think this is being blown out of proportion. But just my opinion.

Considering I live in Orlando, probably a ton. But what I am saying is most CMs won't know my address. And yes, if I have the option to link my credit card to my bracelet, I will. It will be convenient for me. No different than me doing that when I go on vacation to a Marriott resort. And if they wanted to steal a child, they would find a way with or without my address. They can just drive around a neighborhood to find kids. An address is useless and do you know how many people have my address and my kids names and birth dates that live near me?!? Lets see, Arnold Palmer hospital and most of the staff there, about 15 doctor offices and there staff, toys r us, publix, etc. Again, it is information that is not very useful and honestly too many people have for me to care about. Heck the doctor offices and hospital even know the meds my son is on and all of his medical history, what good that will do them :) I also have a listed number and don't lock my doors when I am home - lol But that is a story for another day as to why I don't :)

If this got whittled down to an account, linked to and accessed by an email address and/or mobile phone number, containing: name on room key for resort guests/as much of a name as an offsite guest wants to give up, park ticket, and reservations I think it would achieve the "positives" mostly set forth by Disney PR. Ease of use, unique interaction with characters and rides, Fastpass+, Spam offfers, ect. However, where do you make money with that? I don't know of any scientific study to cite, but I know it's a fact people who use credit cards spend more freely than those that don't. And your bracelet will basically be your Disney credit card. Now, I know that's what your room key is now, but a lot of people don't know/don't care enough about it. But now it will be mandated for everyone to have one, and it's use will be heavily encouraged. $$$$$$$$$

I think the "tracking" in the park thing is overblown. If Disney wanted to, they probably could easily mine that data much cheaper. Your park ticket is tracked directly to you, and put something in Fastpass machines to keep track of when a ticket is scanned. Put some ticket scan or something in at food places, and you easily have an estimate of where someone is 75% of the time in park. And honestly, you're on heavily monitored private property: there's no real hiding anyway. It's not like TDO is going to have a Control Center with a bunch of blinking red dots circling around park wall-sized park maps.

This is exactly why we bring cash with us when we go on trips to Orlando because if we don't the money starts flowing a little too loosely and harder for us to keep track and budget.

i think everyone's issue with its privacy and security are just a little bit irrational. granted the way it's presented makes it sound like Big Brother, but honestly it's never really exactly like how the paranoid worriers make it seem like. people are overreacting, it doesn't seem that serious imo.

Not to you maybe, and that is fine.. But there are a hell of a lot of folk out there who are really not happy. Even congress has written to mr Iger demanding answers.

My main issue with it is this, we could have had a bunch of new attractions with that 2bn, not to mention the repairs and upgrades that could have been done.

I just don't see why Disney needs to know all that to enjoy a day in an amusement park. I simply don't giving my kids info to anyone unless I absolutely have to, and certainly not to go to an amusemt park. I don't know who will have access to the system and quite frankly you guys don't either. And the fact that Disney has lobbied heavily to have COPPA changed, I have to ask what are they planning. And are they going to sell the info?

This all just seems very complicated for a day at an amusement park.

They are certainly up to something DH, you don't go to all that trouble and lay down 2bn in a stuggling economy without knowing you will get good ROI. The only way I can see them getting any return is by selling the data or the tech that gathers it in the first place. Maybe they will see a growth in sales through targeted advertising but that would take years to recoup the outlay, wouldn't it? Other than that I have no idea , but you can bet your bottom dollar on a bumpy ride ahead.

People already have stated where the money is going to be made.

1. With multiple reservations, you are more free to spend money vs. stand in line.
2. Being able to purchase stuff with a swipe of a band will make it easier to spend money. Already proven that people spend more on CC and now you make it even easier? More money will be spent by the average guest.
3. Targeted advertising. This may be down the line, but if they know you are in the park and don't have reservations they can suggest places.

I don't see the selling portion of it. It is a lot of money to gather information they mostly have now to sell. They have everyone's address, phone number, e-mail, names, etc. What else do they need to sell the information? Where you go in a theme park has little value to most other people looking for the information. So really, what is there to sell that they don't already have. 2B to sell names would be a waste of money.

Now again, I still say 2B was way too much for this system, but I do think over time they will make it back. But it will take a long time, but most attractions (minus big ones like WWOHP) take time to get the money back also.

How many packs of cigaretts I bought and whether I ate bacon and fettuccine Alfredo is valuable information for people like United Health Care or Kieser Permenante.

All I know is that EVERYONE (from Winn Dixie to Target) that has a Data Mining Program, part of the reason they have it is so that they can profit from selling the info gathered. I don't see why Disney would be any different.

I don't see what useful information they would get that they most likely don't already have. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree, because I think you will continue to be paranoid about this and I will continue to go on my merry way of going to Disney and using the bracelets when they let AP holders use them. Nothing either of us says is going to change the others mind.

Heck, I wish Universal would do that, then I wouldn't have to carry around the express passes with me and remember to get them out. Would make life easier. :)

This program is a lot more than an electronic Express Pass. That I wouldn't mind at all. This is going to be a massively tiered system. And APers are going to really get screwed with this program unless you plan your day trips 60 days in advance. So enjoy your FP+ reserved ride time on Aladdin's Flying Carpet or The Great Movie Ride, because the resort guests are going to suck up all the FP+s for the popular attractions like TSMM, Soarin' or Space Mountain by noon 60 days before your day trip.

Has there been any confirmation yet to the rumored quarterly FP+es the APers are supposedly getting?
