Coming up on 8, yes EIGHT years, without a new Dreamwork's show in this flex theater. Unbelievable :lmao:

Maybe the new Soarin America film at DLR will nudge them to make a new one for this.

Um, yeah….the theater is doing exactly what it’s designed to do. There’s already been an overlay for FFN and three overlays for HHN! They got a lot of mileage out of the venue already.

I do think once we hit the ten-year mark, we can talk about a new permanent overlay for this attraction.

If we wanna be technical, Four Seasonal attractions too (considering Behind The Screams + Late Night with Chucky) and that's not including what FFN will have next year.

Should there be a new permament daytime film? Yeah probably, and I genuinely wonder if Shrek might be one that could get it (especially as the film is delayed now to 2027), but DWT has been becoming more properly of use now that they seem to have a better understanding.

There's a story I can tell about one overlay, but I'll reserve that encase it shows up in the near future, but they have been considering daytime seasonal overlays.

You're right - there have been two additional "ride" films, but four seasonal productions in total. In other words, the theater is doing what it was meant to do.

Why does it have to be the 10 year mark though?

I do think they have come to terms though that the venue can't really be used for *show* productions to the scale that'd allow them to run DWT in the day. From what I've heard, Late Night with Chucky was kind of a mess behind the scenes wise.

I suspect the future will be "Films" overlayed into the theater. Especially if they could figure out a way to convert XR films into films that can use the full wall projections in-time with D-Box (which is cheap to reprogram).

I almost hope they just rename it to the Universal Theater or Production Plaza theater because the usage of Dreamworks but only using Kung Fu Panda is just an irritating tease. Just take out all of the Dreamworks stuff and make it an overt black box like in Japan.

yes, this is petty lol

I think I wouldn’t mind the theater at all if the show was in 3D, but I absolutely love (well done) 3D so I’m heavily bias. Its why Minion Mayhem is also kind of dead space for me now (especially since it had stellar 3D).

Historically speaking the ten year mark is when attractions are seriously considered for replacement (i.e. Supercharged, BttF)

They sometimes wait until then because it's a 10 year business depreciation move.

Was the Kung Fu Panda film originally developed for this attraction or Motiongate? Because I wonder if developing new films just proved too costly especially after Orlando’s was cancelled

I know it was a small show...but I did enjoy it

The Blumhouse show as well was something new made for the theater and used real actors

Hamikuma having a dance/projection show would be cool

Fan Fest could use it for K-Pop Demon Hunters sing along show

I don't think the shows here have to be even a brand new huge film, it would be nice for the main film to be redone (and bring back Panda for Lunar new years) but I hope they keep using the theater and just find more uses for it

Have a show during the summer event, even if only at night highlight Universal Movies like ET, BTTF and more.

Why any US park has yet to embrace this sort of attraction is beyond me. (Outside of Impressions de France/BATB Singalong) Not only do you have the opportunity to rotate seasonally, but throughout the day. You can test IPs and concepts for a small investment and bring back locals more often.

I would have preferred Shrek 4D turning into a black box theater over Minion Blast with rotating experiences. 3D/4D shows aren't going to increase attendance dramatically, but they do provide an easy experience for guests to enjoy in the A/C.

Once again, you guys are underestimating the amount of resources it takes to produce a theme park-ready attraction film... It's a "small investment" relative to an entirely new build or a tear-out/replace, but it isn't peanuts!

Not every theme park investment should be a $100-$300M E-Ticket. We need the $10-30M C/D-ticket experiences to round out the overall park experience.

I think that's what USH is missing. Those smaller, easier to experience, attractions that fill up people's time and makes them feel satisfied at the end of the day.

I was confused.....our Shrek did become a kind of black box theater

I mean over in Florida sure not again another show but I'd be on the Minions walking attraction a good deal if it was here at USH and also would rather have it over the current Minions ride we have

Also if somehow they can green light a Luigi Mansion attraction using the same system it would be very popular and in fact most likely need to tracks to keep up with demand

Not what I said or implied, and not what you initially said, either. I don't disagree that the parks need more C/D-ticket experiences to round out their offerings. At the same time, $10-30 million is a pretty enormous expenditure and only qualifies as "small" relative to much larger expansion spends. It isn't something a park like USH can just throw together when they feel like it.

Just reuse media like with SimIwerks theaters at regional theme parks. Kung Fu Panda is already super boring and it does not stack up to the likes of Muppet Vision (because its really just a simulator short rather than a 4D theater attraction), rotate stuff around with pre existing stuff. Kung Fu Panda is basically already that anyway since it wasn’t built for the park. Rotate between like a Remastered Shrek 4D and Panda at the very least, ahaha.

They are... already doing this, as we just discussed. Implementing Shrek 4D would require producing a new preshow, which I'm not sure they have the resources or drive to do.

Without the shared Lowes/Universal hotel profits, a 'busy thriving' CitiWalk, and so much on site dining/drinking, USH certainly doesn't have the kind of revenue
that UOR, even after dividing it up into more parks, has. One reason USH needs an onsite hotel(s) that generate all that extra income.
More money coming in, more attraction budget. And certainly, the film division isn't going to share their income with the park.
