I’m really curious what they do with Journey. Will it be a complete gut re-do, or will they go on the cheap and keep the same track layout and just add new scenes? Given how limited the info was on this, I could see this being a long ways off.

As mediocre as the current ride is, I’m willing to bet there is a generation of fans that will miss what’s currently there. I remember the original attraction fondly , but it was soooo long ago.

In order to do it right… i would demolish the interior , including the old theater. The building itself is still iconic.

The rumor is it's using the Encanto ride system.

Given SSE was more flushed out I expect that to go down first with Imagination next and the goal to have both done by 2031 (Epcot’s 50th)

And the other rumor is this was JUST approved this past week. So yeah no wonder we have no info lol

Well I’m all for a total re-do of the ride system for Journey, but I feel like that’s expecting too much from Disney. Maybe I need to get out of the mindset that they will be looking to do things on the cheap.

Yeah I’m guessing the next 2 years or so goes:

• Spring 2027 - Carousel of Progress (Confirmed)
• Fall 2027 - Tropical Americas & Indy (2027 Confirmed)
• Winter 2027 - Monsters Inc. Land (2027 Confirmed)
• Spring 2028 - Encanto Ride
• Summer 2028 - Door Coaster

And then Spaceship Earth probably after that. Imagination will probably sneak in between Piston Peak and Villains Land and open just in time for Epcot’s 50th.

It's so interesting, because the lead Imagineer for the Epcot revamp is one of the lead Imagineers for the Abu Dhabi park. So either he's amazing and was hamstrung by the world's saddest budget, or failing....up?

I would never expect a full gutting for Journey. Just updates to the show scenes so I would be pleasantly surprised if that's the case.

To your point, my mom said the other day when I told her about this "nooooo... we love figment!", but then did acknowledge she knows a lot of people like the old version with dreamfinder which she does not remember.

To be fair to your mom, that shows how long they've let this version stagnate within the park.

The original Journey Into Imagination - lasted 15 years (83-98)
Journey Into YOUR Imagination - lasted 2 years (99-01)
Journey Into Imagination with Figment - 24 years & counting (02-??)

Zach was a lot better in his non-creative roles, but also the Epcot overhaul was generally a dumpster fire that had to navigate one lead imagineer creating the entire vision, half of it getting scrapped, another lead imagineer executing the remnants, all while dealing with the two-headed hydra of Covid and Chapek.

3rd option:
They're not that serious about the Abu Dhabi park

4th option: they’ve assigned a number of high-paid people to it because it means they get to bill some of their time off to Miral.

Good news: it’ll be the encanto ride system and a full gut. Rumors they’re even moving stuff back upstairs. I’m more wondering if they do a film too.
