I wonder if it's the plan as our bartender said "drinks only, no appetizers at the moment" when we went. He gave us the same physical menu as the restaurant itself, so I wonder if it's thats the long term plan?

I hope one day they serve some food even if they only offer small bites at the bar. I like to eat a little something when I drink.

Yeah, even a small apps menu or something would be good.

Loved Das Stakehouse. The whole Table Delivery thing takes a bit getting used to but we got it now.

Meatloaf stake was awesome, red velvet cake with maggots also great. Love the ambience, and super easy to pop in for a beer.

I thought Burning Blade would be the Hogs Head here but was sorely disappointed. Only four tables and a big stand only table. After all that walking I want to sit while having a beer. Dumb. Luckily Das Stakehouse has enough seating to allow me to do this.

Not sure what to think of Bar Moonshine in Paris. Got what we wanted quickly, and they would give samples of all the drinks. After a few samples we luckily got one of only three tables. That was great, but what kind of design is this?

It’s like Fountain of Fair Fortune but without any room for a line indoors. You can watch kids do the wand spells if you can snag a table but good luck.

It was hot so after few samples I got Daisyroot Ale which was quite good.

I love it. Inconvenient for a busy theme park but feels exactly like a quirky place you’d stumble upon in the streets of Europe. They nailed the “we want tourist business but can’t afford rent off the main hub” vibe that, in my opinion, are the best spots to chill on vacation.

I get what you are saying but this is not that. Even in Paris France, the cafes in busy areas such as San Michel have rows of tables. MoM’s Cafe Lair de la Sirene actually does a pretty great job of this (and has great food to boot).

But three tables for the sake of being authentic to some side alley cafe in Paris while being in this theme park and land just serves to make people mad. I saw it first hand. Poor design; we’ve seen Universal do much better at toeing the line between authenticity and crowd flow even if it just throwing a bunch of tables on the patio like Hogs Head or Das Stakehaus.

And at least one “adult” with a beer in one hand and a wand in the other. Trying desperately not to elbow the kids out of the saying “let me show you how it’s done!” and failing miserably. Not me just someone I know

Helios has their own signature bourbon.

Hmmm— here’s a screenshot from it:

Yeah, this private barrel Angel's Envy is what they use in the Athenian Milk Punch. The bartender does a whole spiel about how it's made if you order it, and sets the bottle on the bar top to show the contrast between how it looks in the bottle and how it ends up clarified after the greek yogurt fat washing.

The milk punch is very interesting. The bourbon can barely be detected knocking around in the base of the drink, underneath lots of yogurt and ouzo notes. Not quite like any other cocktail I've ever had. Wouldn't order it again at the price but I'm glad I had it once since it's not like anything I'd ever be able to make at home.

I also got talked into ordering the bourbon on a rock to compare, and it's a good expression if you like cask strength stuff but not really distinguished enough from any other 110 proof you can name to justify the $26 price tag.

Heading to Bar Helios for dinner & drinks tomorrow night. What have you tried that you recommend?

My wife and I had the charcuterie, calamari, beef skewer, ora king salmon and oysters. Highlights were the beef skewer and the salmon. The calamari was nice to start with but the pieces at the bottom of the bowl were sitting in a pool of oil. The charcuterie was nice but not exceptional and it’s something you can easily throw together at home. Oysters were a bit too gritty, definitely not as good as The Boathouse.

I have to admit we left disappointed. We were sat outside overlooking the park, which was great, but those five small plates, two drinks (beer + prosecco) and a large bottle of sparkling water came to something like $240 including tip and the food simply wasn’t good enough to justify that sort of price. The front of house team is exceptional thanks to Fernando and some of his team moving over from Strong Water, but the kitchen needs work.

We had a couple of meals back at Strong Water later in the trip - the food was significantly better and the bill for both meals combined wasn’t as high. It’s still our favourite place to eat on property.

I’d visit again for drinks and the view but doubt I’d order food. Hope your experience is better than ours.

This is helpful, thanks!

I don't drink so I always debate whether it's worth visiting bars. Think I'll stick to Flora Taverna when I stay at Helios.

Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to try Flora Taverna but we heard good things from others who did. Looking forward to trying it next time we’re over.

If you have Epic tickets then Atlantic and Blue Dragon are also options when staying at Helios and we had good experiences at both.
